On this episode, Headspace's Editorial team chats about how the Sport Motivation meditations surprised us and got us motivated to do more than just go for a jog. Hosted by Kelton Wright, Alex Pompliano & Jennifer Azlant. [Note: These are our personal views of Headspace’s Motivation meditations. Quick: think of a person you love that you have absolutely no qualms with, who has never upset you. Now, think of a person you feel completely neutral about—you don’t like them, you don’t dislike them. And finally, think of a person you really can’t stand… and imagine them happy. If those three people stirred some emotions, you’re not alone. Relationships run the gamut, but they don’t have to run your life. On this episode of the Packcast, we did Headspace’s Happiness pack — 10 days of exploring what it means to feel content, joyful, exuberant, happy, and even what it means to feel the opposite. When people say, “it’s the journey, not the destination,” we're almost certain they’ve never trained for a marathon. Training, for whatever your goal, is meant to be a challenge. But is there a way to make it easier? To make it more effective? On this episode of the Packcast, we did Headspace’s Sport Training pack — 10 days of rethinking your thinking on training. This pack took me from reluctant jogger to planning a trail marathon. But how do you do that? That’s exactly what we tackle in this episode. Listen to fall back in love with sweaty palms and racing heartbeats. Hosted by Kelton Wright, Alex Pompliano & Jennifer Azlant

This week on the podcast, I wanted to take on a topic that scared me. I decided this week that it was time to talk about death, no matter how uncomfortable that made me. It seems like the more we’ve started to acknowledge ideas around mindfulness, presence, living day to day, the more we’ve had to acknowledge our mortality, and dying, and how death affects the way we live our lives.

Bonus episode: International Women's Day

Podcast cover
Read more

This week we are celebrating International Women’s Day right across Headspace, so I wanted to return to the podcast archives for an episode that I found particularly inspiring. There have been some incredible women on the podcast to date: marathon swimmer Diana Nyad, comedian Ruby Wax, Brainpickings founder Maria Popova, aspiring astronaut Kellie Gerardi, the list goes on. But I wanted to return to a conversation that profoundly impacted me in terms of understanding what it means to take risks. Natalie Wellington decided in her thirties to trade in her comfortable life and retrain as an airline pilot. As a woman, and at 32, this was a huge decision that took guts, determination, and a steadfastness that really resonated with our listeners. This is an episode that really made me question the risks I was prepared to take in my own life, so I hope you too are motivated by Natalie’s story. As always, you can get in touch with me at radio@headspace.com.

#55 On Charity & Community- L.A. Kitchen

Podcast cover
Read more

This week on Radio Headspace I’ll be speaking to Robert Egger, founder of DC Central Kitchen and more recently, the L.A. Kitchen. Robert is known for his innovative approach to food charity and volunteerism, and the L.A. Kitchen is a real example of this. Alongside volunteers, students and graduates from the L.A. Kitchen’s culinary program work together to make healthy meals (predominantly from leftover and discarded produce) to feed those most in need, and feed them well. We talk about kindness and charity a lot on this podcast, and this episode explores the idea of charity done in a different and more collaborative way. As well as speaking to Robert in our studio, I also went to the L.A. Kitchen during a volunteer event to ask some of the volunteers and graduates of the program about their experiences.
