Many Pros and Many Cons

This podcast was the first podcast I ever listened to. It’s special to me for that and it exploded my knowledge of Tudor England. Since starting it I have watched so many historical shows and read historical books on this era and did my own research about people of this era. So it is a great podcast to get started with and it’s easy to follow—as a Masters of History Major I can assert that this is NOT the case with many many historical commentaries. I enjoy that Heather revisits topics through interviews with other historians. That being said, the sound quality of a lot of episodes can and will drive a listener batty. There is a hiss in the microphone that kills my ears, and some of them are just terrible quality. And although I love the revisiting of topics, the chronological order is lost and topics very disconnected. So overall, I continue to listen because I do enjoy it, but there are many things that can be improved.

This is the audio of Leanda de Lisle's talk at the 2019 Tudor Summit talking about Charles I, The White King (so the audio isn't the best). His story is the natural fulfillment of the story of the Tudors, of the Reformation that Henry VIII set into motion a century before. It's interesting that the Tudors dynasty was bookended by civil war on either sides of it, and understanding why Charles met the fate he did is crucial to understanding the impact of the Tudor policies.

What a thrill it was to speak with Alison Weir for the second time about her new book on Anne Boleyn. The second in the new Six Tudor Queens series, this is historical fiction firmly rooted in research. She talks about such questions on Anne as, "was she really a feminist icon?" and "did she want the throne from the start?" and "was she really a threat to Katherine?"
