Rank #4: MIW #2 - The number one thing you can do to get more time

Podcast cover
Read more

If you want to gain more time, you first have to know WHERE your time is going! In this episode I discuss time tracking, how I've used it, who I learned about it from, and how it has changed my schedule.

If you want a quick version of looking at where your time is going, look on your phone. If you have an iPhone, go to Settings, Battery and scroll down. It will tell you battery usage by app in % or hit show activity and it will show in time. A lot of what I have learned about time tracking is from from Laura Vanderkam who was on the show in Episode 16. She has written several books: 168 Hours - you have more time than you think, I Know How She Does It, and Off the Clock - feel less busy while getting more done.

Once you know where your time is going, you can start to make adjustments to get the schedule you want!

How to Track

If you are going to track, do it for at least one week, if not two! 1. Use a notebook 2. Excel (you can get a template from Laura Vanderkam), I copied mine to google sheets so I could do it from my phone 3. Use an app: Atracker free and pro

What surprised you when you totaled up your week?

Jessica Turner is a mom to 3 kids, wife and full time marketing professional for a large health care organization. She is also an author and blogger at The Mom Creative. Jessica is passionate about a lot of things! One of her big passions and the source behind her latest book Stretched Too Thin, is her love of helping women to take care of themselves and get rid of mom guilt.

Jessica and I talk a lot about mom guilt, prioritizing our time, why the word balance is ridiculous, and how fulfilled we both feel by our jobs outside the home.

I am a big fan of Jessica's first book The Fringe Hours and I devoured her new book Stretched Too Thin. It is packed with great wisdom and resources to help working mom thrives. She surveyed several thousand women to collect data for this book, and did tons of interviews so the book is packed with not only her thoughts, but from many other women as well (including yours truly here!).

Always wanting a new challenge, Aisling decided to open an online shop to sell all the therapy toys that she was constantly recommending to her clients. Along with several family members they have opened Wiggle Kids. Use promo code PODCAST2018 to get 10% off your purchase!

Rank #18: Ep. 78 The Night Before

Podcast cover
Read more

I'm a big believe in getting up early and having time to myself in the morning. A lot of people think they can just set their alarm for earlier and that's all they need to change.... but that just won't work.

If you want to have a successful morning routine, you have to start the night before. The big things to do:

  1. Go to bed earlier. Start dialing back your bedtime by 15 minutes and getting up 15 minutes earlier until you reach your goal wake up time.
  2. Get organized. Pack up and prepare everything you possibly can the night before.
  3. Set the coffee up so that it's ready at the time you want.
  4. Clean the kitchen.

Come back next week when I talk about what I include in my morning routine.

Heather shares about her work mentoring for her sorority and the joy of helping to guide those women through their college years and beyond. She loves helping other women succeed through her work and her volunteer mentoring.
