196 - The Completist

There are approximately 750 hours of Star Trek and fans who have seen every episode and movie are typically referred to as "completists."  Until recently, Bill had not been part of that club. He hadn't seen most of Star Trek: Voyager and had a goal of finishing that by the 25th anniversary of the series in 2020. Just a couple of weeks ago he completed the series, earning him his completist badge and we figured it would be a great time to hear his thoughts on the fourth live action Star Trek series. Joining us to celebrate the milestone is our good friend John Krikorian from the Trek Profiles podcast--who is also in the midst of trying to finish Voyager for the first time! We'll discuss Bill's reactions to the series and he may even have to answer a lightning round of questions! Plus, your FanSets discount checkout code this week on The Flagship! 058 - See-It or Skip-It

This week, we take a look at the first season of Star Trek: Voyager! It's no secret that Bill hasn't been the biggest fan of Voyager, and he's even attempted his own "Voyager Challenge" to finally get through the series. We thought it might be easier to discuss each season and decide which episodes that you should watch and which ones you can safely avoid in a new feature called, "See-It or Skip-It" and we'll take on the freshman season of Voyager first! Debuting January 16, 1995, Voyager held great promise as the first Star Trek series to launch a television network. Its first season had sixteen episodes and we'll take a look at each one telling you if you should See-It (because it truly matters in the overall arc, there is important character development, or it’s just a phenomenal episode) or whether you should Skip-It (because it doesn't impact the overall story, it's a weak stand-alone episode, or it's just flat out bad). Which Season 1 episodes will we love? Which ones will we agree on, and WHY? Eventually, we'll do this for every season of every series, but we start today in the Delta Quadrant where we'll be keeping a strict accounting of the photon torpedoes and paying close attention to the level of suffering endured by Ensign Harry Kim. (We're willing to bet it's more than Miles O'Brien, but time will tell!) Plus, we'll talk about the latest news in the Star Trek universe from our friends at TrekNews.net, and don't forget about our iTunes Review Giveaway where you could win a $25 gift card to Amazon.com just for writing a review! It's Episode 58 and you most definitely should NOT "Skip-It!"

036 - Make It So!

This week on Trek Geeks - A Star Trek Podcast, we take a look at the second live-action Star Trek series, Star Trek: The Next Generation! Premiering twenty-eight years ago, TNG was a risk in the eyes of a lot of fans. "If it doesn't have Kirk and Spock, it doesn't have me," was the attitude of many prior to the show's debut. Over the years, Next Gen has become the Gold Standard of modern era Trek with characters and stories we adore and cherish. It's hard to imagine trapping lightning in a bottle twice, but Gene certainly did it! Bill and Dan will examine the first two seasons and how challenging it was to get this series on the air, how season three changed the franchise, and whether or not TNG's success was a hindrance to the other live-action Trek shows that followed. Plus, we'll talk about episodes that fans typically love or hate and why we have the opposite view of them! (SPOILER ALERT: Both Bill's and Dan's most hated episodes list contains one of the most loved episodes of all time!) In addition, we'll take a look at some recent news in the world of Star Trek with an update on Star Trek Beyond, as well as updates on two independent productions: Star Trek Renegades and Star Trek Continues.REMEMBERING GENEThis weekend also marks the 24th anniversary of the death of Star Trek creator, Gene Roddenberry. Bill has talked about his meeting Gene in the past, and today we'll recall where we were when we heard the news as well whether or not The Great Bird of the Galaxy would be pleased with the current state of Star Trek. Lastly, we'll respond to some feedback that was left on our Facebook page regarding our episode on Star Trek: Enterprise! It's a Super Sized Episode of Trek Geeks and we hope you'll join us!

100 - A Journey to Future's Past, Part 1

Well, here we are.  Who would have thought two and a half years ago when we started this incredible journey that we would be bringing you Episode 100 of the Trek Geeks Podcast.  We could not be more thankful to each and every one of our listeners for making this happen.  We are so grateful to all of you.  For this wonderful occasion we felt we wanted to do something special and unique.  It isn't everyday you celebrate Episode 100, so we wanted it to be something that is very near and dear to our hearts. In November of 2015, we had the trip of a lifetime.  Vic Mignogna, creator, executive producer and star of Star Trek Continues, invited us to Stage 9 while the cast and crew were filming Episodes 6 and 7. We were able to witness first hand what it was like to see an episode of Star Trek being made and we were able to walk the corridors of the U.S.S. Enterprise.  We met so many wonderful people, we became friends with all of them, and most importantly we became family.  It was an experience like none other so we wanted to share that experience with you.   We hope you enjoy our audio documentary of our experience on the set of Star Trek Continues in our super-sized Episode 100: A Journey to Future's Past, Part 1. SPECIAL THANKS Music for the Trek Geeks Podcast is graciously provided by our friends, the band FIVE YEAR MISSION! We break down all the main crew assignments in this "infinite possibilities episode". Heck, even waste extraction is discussed because Bill thinks that would be perfect for Dan! In Star Trek news, perhaps one of the most EPIC and awkward pics in history was taken recently at Star Trek Destination Europe as almost two dozen Star Trek alums got together on the bridge of the Enterprise! Also, time to fork over some quatloos or gold pressed latinum because the revised and expanded Star Trek Encyclopedia is now available and the reviews are overwhelmingly positive!
