Challenge worry with tea: Skullcap!
Scutellaria is a genus of North American flowering plants in the mint family. They are known commonly as skullcaps. Skullcap is used for insomnia, anxiety, and paralysis caused by strokes. It is also used for fever, high cholesterol, epilepsy, nervous tension, allergies, skin infections, inflammation, and spasms. It works on things that cause inflammation and can induce sleep. Especially good if you experience your anxiety in your body (cant sit still, toss and turn, jaw clenching, pacing, fidgeting). Works on our central nervous system relaxing us.

Use LGBT Affirming language - Language has a huge impact on the way we see others and ourselves, and yet, language is constantly changing. That is why it is important to familiarize yourself and keep up-to-date with LGBT-related terms and concepts
Be visible - support lgbt student groups, correct others, attend events, post things, make your space visible, have books by and about queer folks
Know their challenges - who are the bullies, what is happening that might impact queer students?
Know the resources - websites, counselors, community centers, role models, peers

What is a trigger?
Triggers are people, words, opinions, situations, or environmental situations that provoke an intense and excessive emotional reaction within us. Common emotions that we experience while being triggered include anger, rage, sadness, and fear. Virtually anything can trigger us, a trigger depends on the experience.
https://lonerwolf.com/emotional-triggers/

Why do we get triggered?
2 main reasons
Trauma –We get triggered when we see, hear, taste, touch, or smell something that reminds us of the previous traumatic circumstance. For example, a rape victim might be triggered when they see a person with a beard bc their attacker had a beard. An adult who never fit in as a child may feel triggered when seeing groups of people have fun.

Ego preservation – The ego is the sense of self or “I” we carry around. When our egos are challenged or hurt by others, we are prone to becoming triggered – immediately.

Physical Rest - cant stay awake, coffee not helping
Mental Rest - re-reading the same sentence 10x and still not retaining it!
Social Rest - balance draining interactions with restorative ones
Creative Rest - always making or doing, try being in nature or surrounding yourself with inspiration
Emotional Rest - snapping for no reason? Activated? Crying? Emotional eating? You are in need of emotional rest.
Spiritual Rest - 6th house
Sensory Rest - eyes feel strained, ears ringing

4 components of accountability by Mariame Kaba:
Apology - you may need to apologize more than once! Remember, apologizing is not about you it is about the person/s you harmed/hurt.
Repair - take action! Follow through on what they said they needed from you when you apologized.
Restore- Fumbling towards Repair Workbook by Kaba and Shira Hassan to learn about accountability within community and Care Work by Leah Lakshmi to learn about emotional intelligence
Changed Behavior - Dont do it again! Sure, but also, build your own support network to ensure you won’t do it again. This is YOUR responsibility.

Coping Skills are conscious, intentional, and direct responses to life events that cause us problems (stress, trauma, anxiety, pain…)

Negative -
Neutral -
Constructive - any approach to stress management that is generally considered to be adaptive or otherwise positive. Examples include planning and strategizing, seeking help and support from others, Journaling, reframing the situation, and meditating. so they don’t provide the instant, easy relief that other, less effective methods do, but you’re addressing the root-cause of your stress.

Ways to support Queer Youth
Use LGBT Affirming language - Language has a huge impact on the way we see others and ourselves, and yet, language is constantly changing. That is why it is important to familiarize yourself and keep up-to-date with LGBT-related terms and concepts
Be visible - support lgbt student groups, correct others, attend events, post things, make your space visible, have books by and about queer folks
Know their challenges - who are the bullies, what is happening that might impact queer students?
Know the resources - websites, counselors, community centers, role models, peers
Help them socially connect Volunteer or give back in other ways

Type A or B?
Often used as holistic personality descriptors, these personality typologies refer specifically to how we respond to stress.

Type A - Type A achievement for achievement sake. Leadership is important to type A’s. They are self driven.
Type B - People with Type B personality by definition generally live at a lower stress level and typically work steadily, enjoying achievement but not becoming stressed when they are not achieved.
Type C - People with type C personality have difficulty expressing emotion and tends to suppress emotions, particularly negative ones such as anger. This means such individual also display 'pathological niceness,'
Medical journals even use type D for “distressed” (has all of the worry of type a, with all of the lack of time management of type B) and type E, for someone who fits into none of the above categories.
