An incredible initiative to tell the stories of women working in animation and those who paved the way. I’ve been listening for a while and love to hear the myriad of voices of women across the animation industry. Cassie interviews animators, character designers, storyboard artists, revisionists, color supervisors, background artists, supervising directors, and more. It’s amazing to get a peek into the many roles in the animation pipeline and across all kinds of projects. Cassie has thoughtful questions that illuminates the guest’s story and offers an opportunity to have really important conversations about their experiences and perspectives. I’m so glad this podcast exists!

Angela Entzminger is the creator and host of "The Animated Journey" podcast and production assistant on Nickelodeon's "The Loud House." This is part 2 of our interview. She took a long and winding road to animation, full of dead ends and intentional pivots, which you can hear about in Part 1. Now, we talk about what she does as a production assistant and how it is one step on the way to her ultimate goal of becoming a storyboard artist and creating the stories that kids young and old will get to enjoy on-screen.

Welcome to the Ink and Paint Girls podcast- a look at animation through the women who make it!

Hosted by Cassie Soliday.

---

Today's guest is background painter and visual development artist, Audrey Gonzalez.

“Be prepared. Be genuine.”

These words are my favorite take away from speaking with Audrey, and I can’t wait for you to take a listen! We discuss being in the right place and right time and how it really doesn’t matter if you’re not prepared for that opportunity. She shares the research process that goes into working on an animated series inspired by latin cultures, how she came up with personal rates for freelance opportunities, and how she’s used social media to connect to a community when she wasn't near one. Audrey started the portfolio day hashtag on Twitter and Instagram where she promotes artists who are ready for opportunity and looking for work! She’s genuine and lovely and I can’t wait for you to meet her.

A wonderful interview to get you pumped for 2020.

Welcome to the Ink and Paint Girls podcast where we celebrate women working in animation and explore representation behind the scenes and on the screen.

Veteran animator, Ellen Woodbury, traded in her pencils for saw blades and carving tools and moved to Colorado. Although she left her animation desk behind in California, it’s clear that she kept all of the lessons she gained in her 20+ years at Disney Animation and now infuses the same philosophies into her one-of-a-kind stone sculptures, which you have got to see! In this interview, we discuss how animating is pure creative problem solving, how Ellen made the jump from hand drawn animation into the CG era, and why it doesn’t matter who the first female supervising animator was. Hint, the point is they broke through together.

She shares the research process that goes into working on an animated series inspired by latin cultures, how she came up with personal rates for freelance opportunities, and how she’s used social media to connect to a community when she wasn't near one.
