Matt and Nate dive into Splash Mountain and discover its amazing story from the initial concept that was helped by the traffic on the Santa Ana freeway in LA to the near disastrous idea of synergizing thi attraction with the Touchstone Pictures release of Splash.  Also, you can't tell the story of Splash Mountain without getting into the politics of Disney's relationship with the films of the Jim Crow and so we briefly discuss Disney's legacy regarding their films and Splash Mountain's theming itself with the political correctness of the time.  Its an interesting topic and we ask a few important questions.  After that we go into the rich theming surrounding what many consider Disney's greatest attraction.  After this segment Matt and Nate thank the listeners for a year of support and go over a few personal highlights while telling how WEDway Radio came to be.  "Thank You Again." Thanks for downloading WEDWay Radio a show about Disney history, Disney parks and touring. This is episode #105 - Crescent Lake.

When Walt Disney World opened in 1971 the company knew that they needed to offer fantastically themed resorts for guests to stay.  Most would associate the Grand Floridian, The Contemporary and the Polynesian as the "name" Walt Disney World resorts. However, this past year the Crescent Lake resort area (or the Epcot resorts) marked its 20th year of existence.

In this episode we explore the story of how the Swan and Dolphin came to be apart of Walt Disney World as well as the other three resorts; The Yacht Club and Beach Club as well as The Boardwalk and our favorite places to go within the resort area.

Rank #12: WEDWay Radio #089 - 40 Years of Magic: The 21st Century's Here

Podcast cover
Read more

This week on WEDway Radio Matt and Nate compete our 40 Years of Magic series by discussing the 21st century.  We believe one of the most prevalent themes of the past 12 years at Walt Disney World is 'Celebrations,' and we discuss some of the more memorable celebrations; The Millennium Celebration, 100 Years of Magic, The Happiest Celebration on Earth and The Year(s) of a Million Dreams.

Disney also created a different type of "experiential" resort with The Animal Kingdom Lodge.  In addition to celebrations there were also technological advancements to attractions as with Toy Story Mania.

Finally, we discuss some attractions and how we lost some of our favorite rides and attractions (Journey into Imagination) and some refurbishments that we liked (Haunted Mansion).0

We are both happy and sad to present this episode as it ends out 40 Years of Magic celebration. We hope you've enjoyed it as much we have enjoyed making it.

Thanks for downloading WEDWay Radio, a show about Disney history, Disney Parks and touring.  This is episode 119 - 30 Years of Discovery:  From Progress City to Epcot Center.

This show continues our look at Epcot Centers 30th Anniversary by looking at the 5 decades of Epcot.  In this particular show we take a look at what happened between Walts original of E.P.C.O.T. with the city of the future to the theme park that we ended up getting.  There were many starts and stops in this process and the entire Walt Disney World property was considered for this project.

We take a look at how Disney evolved its ideas to create Future World, and World Showcase, the key players involved in Epcots evolution and the final product as they saw it in 1978.

Many thanks to Michael Crawford at ProgressCityUSA.com, and the great Epcot centered posts that we used for research on this episode.

Enjoy this show because it was a lot of fun to create.
