The neo-Marxist philosopher Antonio Gramsci wrote, “Cede to me a carton of bologna and I will keep the carton and give the bologna to my comrade.” Evidently Gramsci didn’t care for bologna, yet these are words that have stayed with me. I find bologna acceptable (indeed, at times, I’ve actively sought it out), but on principle I will not buy in bulk, so this has been a pickle.
