Rank #2: K&F Show #96{Finnegan’s Last Show; Dukes of Hazzard Review: “Happy Birthday General Lee” – S7 Episode 1

It's Christmas, and if you aren't wearing MicroModal fabric next to your most of delicate nether region, you're robbing yourself. If your downstairs could file a formal complaint, it would. This is it; the one where we learn why, when, and how the General Lee came to the Dukes! Even better - we get to see him be built from an old junkyard wreck (which was clearly a former jump car). Ironically, this is the Dukes of Hazzard episode that Finnegan and I to start our own podcast about the Dukes of Hazzard together...so it's fitting that we decided to end it here. Anyway, here's the gist of it; this entire episode is a trip down memory lane for the Duke clan as they throw a birthday party for the General Lee. Only the "date of birth" references the day the General himself was created by the Dukes, not the day the Charger rolled off of the Dodge assembly line. It's set 8 years in the past where Boss Hogg was skinny with hair, Rosco has a Burt Reynolds mustache, Daisy didn't work at the Boars Nest, and before Bo and Luke knew that cars could safely fly. And there are bad guys in it, one of which has been a different bad guy two different times in the past too. The biggest thing of all though is that prior to the Dukes, the General was just a soulless Charger. It wasn't until the Dukes found it - and vice versa - that all their lives changed for the better!

The all new Kibbe and Friends edition of the show - with Kibbe, Corndog, and Bernie will debut THIS MONTH! We have received more support from fans that we could have imagined! Finnegan's Return! Guess who's back to stay? Well.....nobody, but I did ask Mike back on to visit for Show #100 - and he regaled in the full story of his win against Hoonigan's own Jon Chase at the NHRA Winter Nationals. And then I made he and Corndog play a somewhat inappropriate game of who has made out at the Top 10 Most Common make-out-session locations. It'll make more sense when you hear it. It's Valentine's week, right?

Feature Interview: Byron Cherry - Coy Duke! We had the great opportunity to interview Byron Cherry, the actor who portrayed Coy Duke for 19 episodes of The Dukes of Hazzard in Season 5 of the series! Many of us as fans of the show have heard the tales regarding the departure and return of John Schneider and Tom Wopat to the show, but the story for Byron Cherry (and his co-star Chris Mayer) is one that the full truth may not have been shared. Listen in to hear his story of getting the opportunity as a young actor to play a leading-man role on the biggest TV series in the world!

So, big news! In this episode you get to hear from not one, but TWO unbelievable Dukes of Hazzard stunt performing super-heroes. The edited interview will release next week but a sneak peek is here for you now. The FULL intervew is already out for our Patreon supporters! Details below for that. This is it! After waiting years to prepare we finally did a full review of the 2005 Dukes of Hazzard movie. This was a $50Million dollar big screen production of our favorite TV show, featuring our favorite car doing the best big screen performance any car has ever performed, ever (we're looking your way, Bullitt). Other than the car.....this isn't the TV series Dukes that you know. Boss Hogg (played by Burt Reynolds) is skinny. Rosco is mean, not goofy. Bo is scared of women. Luke can't drive. Uncle Jesse is crass. But....if you can get past all of that and leave it for what it is, we loved it. Our man Corndog was onsite for the entire filming of the movie in Louisiana and had the full skinny on every car there that played the General Lee (all 27 of them).

We have also figured out what we're going to do for Patreon supporters and you'll hear about in an upcoming episode.  You can go hear to add to the mix: www.patreon.com/kfshow.  Thank you again!!

In this episode of the show we finally reviewed the movie Two Lane Blacktop, a movie that Finnegan's been wanting to hit since we started. Without a doubt this is the last piece of the cinematic puzzle that makes Mike...well, Mike. It's a movie that has clearly influenced him greatly not because it's a fantastic comedy or anything, but because it's about two guys running the country in a homebuilt gasser '55 Chevy. In their lives that's all there is, it's all they need, and all they want. Or is it? Along with way they pick up a random hitchhiker girl who (like the two guys) has no apparent backstory and no dreams going forward. They race an older guy - cross country - in a '70 GTO Judge who is as philosophical as he is total crackpot wacko. There's a ton a dialogue in this movie, yet there's nearly none at the exact same time. This was done in the era of movie making where sometimes the plot and meaning was a secret known only to the writer and director...and Finnegan freaking loves it. In fact he loves it so much that his favorite car ever is a '55 Chevy gasser named Blasphemi. Kibbe has decided that the psyche of Finnegan is made up of a very simple equation, and once you understand it you'll have unlocked the key to Mike's brain, soul, and car:

Two Lane Blacktop + Better Off Dead + The Dukes of Hazzard + Spaceballs = Mike Finnegan

Dukes Review: This is the classic tale of Boss Hogg being jailed for robbing his own bank as a trick to get Jesse to bail him out using the Duke Farm as collateral. Why? Because 40 years prior when Jesse and Boss were moonshiners, Boss helped Jesse out of a jam. This leads to Boss eating a lot of raw liver, the General jumping a pong about 50 times, and a salvation moment inside an air-starved bank vault. FYI - there is an alarming lack of Daisy walking around in shorts in this one. 8 out of 10 Corndogs.

This episode features our review of the movie Cannonball Run, but it's really more of a tribute to the late great Burt Reynolds who passed away recently. We loved Burt's crazy car movies and Cannonball Run was as zany as it ever got. The premise and screen play were a credit to automotive journalist Brock Yates (who makes a cameo in this movie), and then Burt, Dom DeLuise, and Hal Needham took of from there. Alter ego superheroes, cross-eyed proctologists, inappropriate humor (by today's standards) and ambulances with straight headers are all you need to know. Thanks for the fun, Burt!

We are in between show recordings, so in an effort to aid mankind in more Dukes of Hazzard inside baseball knowledge....here's a bonus show for you!

Up first is our preview interview with Byron Cherry, who portrayed Coy Duke himself. Ever wonder how he got the part, or whether Warner Bros told him it was just temporary, or whether John Schneider and Tom Wopat talked to him about it? Well...this preview should stoke the fires a little.

Following that, be prepared to be amazed by the mind of Corndog. In this you will hear is VERY FIRST interview on The MuscleCar Place, an interview he did after I hunted him down after massive amounts of internet stalking. You'll hear his detailed account of all of the remaining "real General Lee's" he was aware of at that time great detail. This is also where our friendship began, predates even the Kibbe and Finnegan show! Who knows - this may have been the spark that lit the fuse of the very show we have today. And I got a GL out of it too. ;)

Dukes Review: Remember high school when they had the Sadie Hawkins dance and the girls had to ask the guys to go? This is the Hazzard County version of that, only with waaaaaaay more girls in shorts that you ever remembered in high school. And instead of a dance they're running the town for a day. Mostly this is an episode that seems to exist only to shoot film of girls walking in shorts. Anyway, here's the gist: Boss Hogg has been stealing from the county funds for years and (shocker) on Sadie Hogg day finds out he'll be audited. In a quick turn of brilliance he decides to make Daisy Duke in charge of the county funds, then has the bank robbed of said funds leaving Daisy liable. Even worse? Acting Deputy Miss Tizdale accidentally confuses Bo and Luke for leaving the bank with the money...when they were actually chasing the bank robbers. Fast forward 30 minutes and it does all get resolved with several more pairs of shorts. Fin.

Dukes Review: Miss Tri Counties: The town of Hazzard hosts  a T&A beauty contest for women. By that I of course mean, Transmissions and Alternators. Seriously, the plot of this episode is a competition where the most impressive lady from each county competes by rebuilding carbs, racing cars, and then wearing swimsuits. It truly is heaven on earth. During the race Daisy takes the General from 3rd to 1st and just like the movie Ford vs Ferrari, during the race scene she stares down the bad guy (girl?) while passing her...which of course in real life would lead to an amazing accident. Bonus points for insanely awesome General Lee speed in this episode, in car footage of John Schneider really whipping 180's, and Tom Wopat climbing out the window of the General at full tilt. When Paul Baxley directs, great things happen!

This episode is presented by returning sponsors Holley, Aluma Trailers, and Wyotech! For the love of Thanksgiving leftovers, please reach out to them and thank them for sponsoring the show. Even if you buy nothing, tell them how much you appreciate it. Companies like these are taking a gamble that shows like ours - and audiences like you - are worth the return. We know you are....but any reminder you can give them would be so very appreciated. You rock!

Movie Review: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!

So here's the thing - when it comes to a Thanksgiving themed highly quotable slapstick-yet-tearjerker movie to review there's really only one that is worthy of doing so for: Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Let's admit it - John Hughes plus Steve Martin plus John Candy equals perfection. And yes, before you even say it, we have reviewed this movie years before with Finnegan (Episode 51) in fact. And yes...it was so funny then that, like this movie, it's worth a repeat of because it's as timeless as it gets....plus the re-enactment of the "you play with your balls" scene was pretty epic!

Better yet....the entire second hour on Patreon (www.patreon.com/kfshow) does a deeper dive on the car, the quotes, the unaired plot points that explained so much more, and another movie re-enactment of the most famous scene in the movie. You know the one....those aren't pillows!

And did Mark Worman of Graveyard Carz really offer him a job? And does he even like eating corndogs? And how does he do this all from an unassuming body shop in Mississippi? Listen and learn.

Dukes Review: Bad Day in Hazzard
Believe it or not, but this is a legitimately good episode. It’s been a while, right? Even the General is acknowledged to have been damaged by smashing bad guys and is then repaired. It’s crazy town! Anyway, here’s the summary: bad guys come to Hazzard to pull of an “Oceans 11” style heist of an armored car delivering money to Boss Hogg’s bank. The Dukes later thwart the robbery. The end. Dang. Come to think of it, it’s hard to write up a compelling summary to this – but trust us – it’s good. Here’s a tidbit of info that was fun: Actor M.C. Gainey is in this episode as a background thug-bad-guy…which is not important at all…but that very same actor went on to portray Rosco P. Coltrane in the 2005 Dukes of Hazzard movie!

DUKES REVIEW: At some point in the run of every TV show, someone gets temporary amnesia and subsequently brainwashed. This is apparently that episode and (shocker) the guy behind the nefarious scheme is Boss Hogg himself. In the real world brainwashing someone gets you sent to the same prison as rapists and murders, but in the Dukes of just provides 46 minutes of pure entertainment. Anyway, Bo hits his head on a log and forgets who he is. The Doctor treating him mistakes Boss as his father, Boss needs someone to run moonshine in the terrifying territory of Sheriff Little, and the shenanigans unfold as you might guess from there. Daisy climbs through the window of the General in a pleasing fashion, the General jumps, and hijinks ensue.

Dukes Review: Have you ever seen Animal House? Remember Babs? She's the bad guy in this episode! Unfortunately that's about the end of the episode highlights. Anyway, Babs and her bad-guy husband come to Hazzard with some stolen jewels. Somehow the jewels end up in Rosco's patrol car, Boss thinks he's in on it, then fires him for not giving him a cut of the take. Shortly thereafter the Dukes get accused of doing the jewel stealing. This of course forces them to team up with Rosco, then get Babs and Mr. Babs to confess their nefarious deeds by terrifying them in a while ride with the General. Boss forgives everyone and the clock resets for the next episode. Feel free to look up Babs on Google or IMDB. You'll get lost in that one, trust me.
