240: The Secrets to a Healthy Microbiome - How to Heal Your Gut and Heal Your Life with the Gut Health MD, Dr. B

You’re only 10% human. Yes, really. Just over a decade ago, doctors believed there were around 200 species of bacteria living on and in the human body. We now know there are over 30,000 species. We have a community of 100 trillion microorganisms in our gut. That is 10 times the number of human cells in the body. This basically means we’re 10% human, 90% bacteria! The microbiome was an unknown entity, but now science has shown it to be a game changer. It’s an integral part of our health, and if we can support it, we can thrive. We are in a synergistic relationship with the microorganisms in our body - we need them to survive, and they need us. They’ve been a part of us since the beginning of human evolution. But we’re bailing on them right now. In the last century, we’ve stopped taking care of them. Our diets (the chemicals we use to process our food), environment (the chemicals we use to clean our homes), lifestyles (lack of sleep, lack of movement, stress), medications (antibiotics) - destroy the delicate microbiome we rely on for health. Doctor Will Bulsiewicz, also known as Dr. B, is an internal medicine doctor and expert gastroenterologist. While his conventional medicine training did not include any nutrition study, science was emerging about the power of diet to treat gastrointestinal disease. So he began studying it in his own time and discovered the untapped potential of a healthy gut. Having witnessed amazing results with his patients, he decided to spread the word beyond his clinic. The Gut Health MD was born. Why your gut is your first step to thriving health: All health starts here. It controls your metabolism and how you process your food. It dictates whether you gain weight, or lose weight, and how easy it is to maintain your weight. It’s in constant communication with your immune system. It regulates your mood and impulses - 95% of serotonin (your happy hormone) is produced in the gut. What can you do to heal your gut? The most important thing is to eat a wide variety of plants - the more different plants you eat, the healthier your microbiome. Unless you have an allergy, don’t blanket-eliminate foods from your diet - taking out foods reduces your diet’s variety and therefore your gut’s microbiome. Get proper sleep, exercise every day, drink plenty of water. Avoid dairy, meat and processed foods - these damage your microbiome. Fasting gives your gut a break and strengthens your microbiome. Check out the American Gut Project. Go to their website, they will send you a kit - give them a stool sample and fill out a survey about your lifestyle, and for just $99 they will tell you what your microbiome looks like. 201: How to Detox, Lose Weight and Heal Your Body in Just 12 Weeks with Dr. Stephen Cabral

Our favorite functional medicine expert, Dr. Stephen Cabral, has spent decades researching all forms of medicine. He believes they all have a place, and can all be used to bring about health. His mission is to help people go from chronic pain, depression and disease to a state of vitality and happiness. Check out Episode 186 where Dr. Cabral shares how he healed himself and tells us all about intermittent fasting, detoxing and Ayurvedic medicine. What is Disease? A simplified way to look at disease is this: people either get sick because of toxicity, or because of deficiency. If we can address the deficiencies (by supplementing vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc.) and begin to remove the toxicities (such as excess hormones, plastics, etc.), we can heal anything. Western Medicine vs Functional Medicine Unfortunately, the goal of conventional medicine is not to get better. It just addresses the symptoms. So, for example, high cholesterol is just a symptom (or sign) that there is a deeper issue, like an auto-immune condition or excess toxins. Conventional medicine will prescribe drugs to manage the symptoms without getting to the underlying root cause. They might make you feel a bit better in the short term, but they don’t provide long-term benefits. On the other hand, functional medicine will look at what might be causing the condition, and help you bring your body back into a state of healthy balance. That said, if you’re suffering a heart attack, you’re better off heading to the emergency room rather than your natural health doctor! Your Health and The Rain Barrel Effect Your body is in a constant state of homeostasis: it is always trying to return to a healthy balance. This means that it can deal with a lot (of stress, junk food, toxins) before finally disease shows up in your blood tests. It’s what Dr. Cabral calls the “rain barrel effect,” which is also the title of his best-selling book. Your rain barrel is essentially your toxic load. If it’s overflowing, your health suffers. You need to empty it out - to clear your toxicity - in order to bring your body back into balance. How to Heal Your Body According to Dr. Cabral, you can heal anything within 12 to 16 weeks (3-4 months). That’s because all your red blood cells turn over every 90-120 days (also 3-4 months). As this happens your mitochondria (your cells’ energy stores) are replenished with nutrients, you’ll have more energy and fewer symptoms. Diet is a huge part of that journey, but you need to take a holistic approach. Addressing food without overcoming emotional trauma just won’t work. A lot of our disease comes from our emotions. Where to Begin? A great way to find out what is happening in your body is to have functional tests done. These will look at markers that conventional medicine usually ignores, to give you a complete picture of what is going on with your health right now. You can order these tests on Dr. Cabral’s online store. Dr. Cabral will read through them and you’ll get a phone call from one of his team’s health coaches to discuss the results. Dr. Cabral’s Weight Loss and Detox Tips: Forget about crash diets or regimes, they are not sustainable and don’t work long term. Crowd out the bad foods with nourishing foods (plant based whole foods are your friends here). Don’t graze all day long, allow your body 4-5 hours between meals to give your cortisol levels a chance to level out. Reset your circadian rhythm - your body detoxifies from around 10pm. Eat foods that support your liver detoxification (like cruciferous veg: broccoli, kale, etc.). Try Dr. Cabral’s detox shakes or his detox protocol. Dr. Cabral and Leslie Durso’s Healthy Travel Tips: Get your antibacterial wipes and wipe everything around you - planes are never cleaned. Get a good night’s sleep before your flight. Avoid alcohol, coffee or tea on the plane, and drink a lot of water (that said, a glass of wine will help you sleep on those super long flights). Ramp up your immune system a few days before: take plenty of vitamin c, zinc and green juices. Fast so that your energy can be focused on protecting your body from germs and toxins (like flame retardants and bug sprays) rather than digesting food. Never eat airplane food - it’s microwaved and full of preservatives. Bring your own health supplements. Only a Few Spots Left on Our Italian Vegan Getaway We’re going to Italy in under a month!! We can’t wait to be there with you. Join us for a full immersion into Italian culture and lifestyle - vegan style! 221: Secrets to Transform Your Inner and Outer Health with a Plant-Based Minimalist Lifestyle

Masa and Michael Osei - Founder of The Minimalist Vegan Do you suffer from the More Virus? Most of us do, to some degree or other. The symptoms? Always wanting more - more stuff, more success, more money, more cars, more clothes, more friends. Anyone who’s seen Hoarders knows that you can literally get trapped by your stuff. Always wanting more leaves us less time to actually enjoy life and be content with what we have right now. Pursuing LESS rather than more gives you the opportunity to discover what really matters to you, and create the space for that in your life. If you want to set up your new business, be an activist, start a blog, then minimalism can free you from unwanted and unnecessary clutter so you have more time to do what you love. Michael and Masa stumbled on the principle of minimalist living through ZenHabits, a blog about Buddhism and minimalism, and instantly knew they had to make the shift towards living with less stuff - not just for themselves but because minimalist living is kinder to the planet. Four years later, they extended this to their diet. Masa and Michael went vegan overnight after watching Earthlings. It wasn’t easy, but once they’d seen the cruelty they couldn’t go back to eating animals. Their free cookbook is packed with delicious recipes to help you get into vegan eating effortlessly. Check out their blog The Minimalist Vegan for tips and tricks to transition to a minimalist and vegan lifestyle - so you have more time and space in your life to follow your dreams. You can also read Masa and Michael’s book The Minimalist Vegan: A Simple Manifesto On Why To Live With Less Stuff And More Compassion. Debi Chew - Plant-Based Nurse and Founder of the Chew on Vegan YouTube Channel She thought she was too old. She thought it would take too long. But Debi Chew followed her dreams. After 24 years working in the grocery business she went back to school to become a nurse - she’s been registered since 2009. Who better to be a nurse than someone who’s been on their own healing journey? Debi went vegan after watching Forks over Knives. But a year later, she was diagnosed with auto-immune hepatitis. Her liver was totally shutting down, she was so bad that her gastroenterologist said if she didn’t take the steroids he would put her in hospital. So she took them. But she knew she didn’t want to be on medications for life, and researched alternatives. Though a combination of Chinese herbs and a plant-based diet, she got off the steroids within 6 weeks and took herself back to total health. Debi set up Chew on Vegan after taking Jason Wrobel’s My Healthy Hustle class. Her YouTube channel spreads the plant-based message and helps people transition to a vegan diet with tons of easy, simple, vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free recipes. Check it out! Especially the outrageous brownies by Chef AJ (we love Chef AJ, all her recipes are salt, sugar and oil-free; she was a guest on Episode 78). You can email Debi at chewonvegan@gmail.com. 186: The Truth About Intermittent Fasting, Ayurvedic Medicine, Detoxing & Weight-loss with Dr. Stephen Cabral

There are over 77,000 manmade chemicals in the environment right now. The average woman wears 26-28 cancer causing chemicals, just from cosmetics. We’re facing an onslaught of toxins every single day and this doesn’t just affect your overall health. It also causes weight gain because the body stores toxins in adipose (fat) tissue.  If you want to lose weight and improve your health, detoxing is the number one thing you can do. But with so much conflicting advice, it can be hard to know where to start. Wherever we are, emotionally, health-wise, we are the sum of all our actions up to this point. Symptoms like irritability, low mood, fatigue, joint pain, low libido, not loving life, are simply a result of a lifestyle too full of components that stress our body. In the new year, we all focus on adding things in: more exercise, more supplements, more green juice. But we can also shift the focus on to what we can take away as well: slow down and begin removing some of the things that are dragging our health down. Dr. Stephen Cabral is a naturopathic doctor specializing in both functional and Ayurvedic medicine. He developed his passion for health & wellness after going through severe health complications at the age of 17. He saw over 50 different doctors, tried over 100 different treatment protocols, but still saw no hope of recovery. It wasn’t until he met an alternative health doctor whom explained to him how he got here and how he could become well again, that he began his recovery process. It was at this young age that he knew his life would be dedicated to helping others rebalance their bodies and renew their health. Today, Dr. Cabral uses the best of ancient healing combined with state of the art functional medicine testing (blood tests, stool tests, biomarkers, etc) to give his patients a full spectrum view of what is going on in their body and the tools to rebalance their health. Dr. Cabral’s mission is to spread what he’s learned through his studies in India, China, Sri Lanka, Europe and the US to help people return to a state of energy, vitality, and happiness. He’s authored the best-selling book The Rain Barrel Effect, and hosts the podcast The Cabral Concept. If you have any health questions, he’s probably already answered it—we’re completely addicted to his show!  Dr. Cabral’s tips for sustainable changes you can make today to help your body cleanse, detox and heal: Fast for at least 12 hours a day. If you’re constantly putting things into your digestive tract, it doesn’t have time to “catch up” and filter out the bad stuff so instead it is stored. When you fast, you allow your system to go into autophagy, a process whereby your body kills cancer cells, releases toxins, rejuvenates and repairs itself! Crowd out the bad foods. Make 60-80% of your diet fresh produce. Sauna (infrared or traditional) Epsom salt baths Dry body brushing in the morning Banish stress from your life If you want to kick-start your health with a detox, check out Dr. Cabral’s 21-day detox plan, which combines the best of ancient Ayurvedic wisdom with the best modern medical knowledge. You can transform a lot in 21 days: reduce inflammation, balance blood sugar and hormones, increase your energy, vitality, and libido. This 21-day plan is the next best thing to actually working with Dr. Cabral. We’ve tried it and LOVE it! 246: Celebrity Health Coach Christine Lusita On How To Lose Weight Successfully & Effortlessly

Most of us fail at dieting. Maybe we’re doing it wrong. We’re so busy following the latest fitness and diet trends that we completely forget to consider the most important factor in successful weight loss: who we are. It’s time to forget what you think you know about dieting. Almost every diet and fitness trend can be a path to weight loss…. But is it YOUR path? If you’re struggling to lose weight, you may simply be following the wrong method for you. Because let’s face it: there is no one-size-fits-all diet that works for everyone. Different methods work for different people. Christine Lusita may be an expert on fitness and weight loss now, but she struggled with her weight since the age of 13. Finding her path towards health and fitness was a marathon. She was a yoyo dieter. She would always jump on the latest diet & fitness trend, and each time she would fail. It wasn’t until she realized she needed to make it easy that she truly connected with her health and her body. Now, she helps other people sprint towards their wellness goals. Christine has over 15 years’ experience in the health and fitness industry and regularly appears on morning shows to promote the latest food & fitness trends and, more importantly, how to make them work for you. The missing link between health success and repeated struggle is knowing who you are. What’s your personality? Are you a leader, socializer, supporter or planter? What works for one personality type does not work for another. Some people love spinning classes and circuit training, other people love yoga and jogging. When you honor who you are and what you love, being healthy becomes effortless. Through her coaching, Christine helps clients realign and accept who they are, and use this to their advantage. Her motto? It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being better. You may not be able to get abs like J-Lo, but you can be the best version of yourself. Christine’s book The Right Fit Formula delves deep into this and give step by step guidance to help you find out who you are and which health strategy fits your personality. The most important thing for successful weight loss is to do what makes you feel good. That’s why Christine has launched an 80’s inspired fitness brand What A Feeling Athletic Wear - that’s how Christine wants people to feel after a workout. Why 80’s? Because the 80’s felt so magical; it was a happier, up-beat time, full of hope. Her new line complements every body type and brings a splash of color, and joy, to your workouts. We love it! 292: The Weight-loss Series Part 1:  Functional Medicine, Spirituality and Self-Care

There is a common theme that happens at the beginning of every new year: We set resolutions and intentions to work out more, to lose weight, to eat better, and to get healthier. 253: Overcoming Anxiety Series Part 1: Best Tips to Combat Anxiety Naturally With Empowerment Strategist JJ Flizanes and CBD Entrepreneur Beau

Over 40 million Americans are affected by anxiety - that’s around 20% of the population. Whether it’s relationship anxiety, workplace anxiety, social media anxiety or general anxiety, it has the power to zap your quality of life. So, what can we do about it? According to empowerment strategist, fitness expert, author and podcast host JJ Flizanes, we’ve been dealing with it all wrong. Pharmaceuticals are not the solution. The first step to overcoming anxiety is to transform how we think about it. We go through hundreds of emotions every single day. Unless these are properly processed, they remain stuck in the body, eventually creating discomfort, disease, and, you guessed it, anxiety. Anxiety is basically the body’s way of telling you something needs to be addressed. Seeing anxiety this way means that it no longer has power over us. Instead of being a victim, it becomes something to be worked with, and something that can lead to greater wellbeing. Looking at anxiety differently gives you more tools with which you can address the root cause of the problem. And if you get to the root, you can stop it from happening. JJ’s 3-step anxiety-busting process: You need to be able to have an awareness and consciousness of what is going on. Feel it to heal it! Identify your feelings - go deep. Download JJ’s Feelings and Needs list, look at the 100 words on there and compile a list of how you feel. Understand what need isn’t being met. Anytime you have a negative emotion, it’s because you have a need that is not being met. Figure out what that is so you can start healing it. List or come up with strategies to get your needs met, without anyone else being different. It cannot be about anyone else but you. How can you address your needs for yourself? Check out Episode 118 of JJ’s Spirit Purpose & Energy podcast for 3 steps to effective communication. Work with JJ and manifest your dream life: Check out JJ’s next event in LA on October 11th to 13th. The Manifestation Boot Camp will teach you how to embody the law of attraction on all levels - creative, practical and emotional. Anxiety and CBD Inner work goes a long way to helping you combat anxiety. Another thing you can do is add anxiety-busting supplements, like CBD. Before he became a CBD entrepreneur, Beau owned a bar with his friend Mike. They were always on the clock, always on the go - it was a high stress lifestyle which, unsurprisingly, created a lot of anxiety. They wanted something to help them deal with it naturally, so they began experimenting with CBD. It worked, but the products were unpleasant to take, impractical or messy. So they decided to create something that made CBD accessible, tasty, and easy to take. Sunday Scaries was born, on a mission to make the world a better place one gummy at a time. CBD will not get you high. It contains medicinal compounds that reduce inflammation, nausea, pain and anxiety. CBD is an adaptogenic, which means that it helps the body heal itself. It’s completely safe and non-toxic, something that the World Health Organization has now confirmed. 213: How to Feng Shui Your Home, Declutter Your Life, Attract Prosperity and Transform Your Life

Is clutter holding you back? You may think mess is just a nuisance, but the state of your home is a reflection of what is going on inside. Our environment sends us sensory messages about the world we live in. A broken path to your home sends the message that life is hard, that things can trip you up. A cluttered purse sends the message of difficulty letting go. A chaotic desk speaks of disorganization. When we begin to clear and declutter our environment, we actually begin to clear our inner world as well. And that is the real magic of Feng Shui. Dana Claudat is a modern Feng Shui master, but her life wasn’t always zen. There was a time when a perfect life to Dana meant hustling x1000, always chasing the next thing. On the outside her life looked awesome, on the inside she was totally burnt out. After years of this kind of fast-paced lifestyle, she ended up in hospital with auto immune disorders. For the first time in her adult life, she was house-bound. Forced to slow down, Dana realized she’d never made her house a home, never created a space where she could truly thrive. There wasn’t a single picture on the walls, the place looked like an impersonal Airbnb. That’s when she found Feng Shui, and it transformed her life. Through the art of Feng Shui, Dana found her voice, got grounded, became confident, and created her business. For over a decade, she’s helped clients change their homes and reconnect with the flow of their life’s true purpose. New jobs, fame, soulmate relationships, business deals, and renewed self-love are just some of the results Dana’s clients have experienced. Feng Shui Explained Feng Shui is basically the art and science of creating an optimum space for you to thrive. There’s no one-size-fits-all model. And it’s not about following arbitrary rules, like purple for wealth or red for success (I mean, not everyone wants red and purple in their living room, right?). Instead, it’s about how the space makes you feel. Prosperity comes from creativity. And for creativity to blossom you need to feel present and grounded in your space. That comes from creating a home that is decluttered and clear of stagnant energies. Dana’s Tips to Declutter Your Home and Create Prosperity Start small: There’s no point having a super tidy garage if your purse is total chaos. Start with the spaces that make up your daily routine: your purse, your bathroom shelf, your kitchen cupboards. Everything in your life should have a purpose: Do you use that dinner service? Are you making the most of your dining room? Create conversations in your home: is your furniture separate and disjointed? Move things around, group things together, and see how this shifts the room’s energy. Be intuitive: if you feel something needs to go, get rid of it. Don’t keep that cushion just because your auntie gave it to you. Clean up your digital space: organize those files, don’t be afraid to unfollow feeds you no longer wish to see. Clear stagnant energies from your home. Burning sage is great for this. Open all the windows and set your intention to clear the space. Mindfully walk around your home and visualize old energy flowing out and new energy flowing in. A great place to start is Dana’s free Life Detox Jump Start Course, where you’ll learn how to detox the clutter and attract more love, health, prosperity and happiness. Ultimately, when you change your home, you change your life. You can shape the universe around you in your favor. Where will you begin? 243: Free Yourself From Cravings and Overeating with Radical Weight Loss Expert David Zappasodi

Diets don’t work. Neither do New Year’s resolutions. Just 3% of people who go on a diet successfully lose weight. Why? They’re based on the idea that if you lose weight, you’ll transform your life. In fact, you need to transform your life first, then the weight loss will happen. Alli was a healthy plant-based holistic salad eater by day…. sugar junkie by night. Sugar addiction ruled her life. Nothing she tried ever worked. Until she met David Zappazodi. Now, her cravings for sugar have disappeared. David Zappazodi has been a healthcare professional specializing in weight loss for over 20 years. He uses radical methods. Instead of coaching people to find their why, and motivating them to change their habits, he tells his clients to stop exercising and eat the junk foods they crave several times a day. It sounds nuts. But…. It works. How do you transform your life first? You have to focus on the struggles that are preventing the weight loss, and then focus on the weight loss itself. To do this, David uses three brain flips that tackle cravings, overeating, and exercising. Brain Flip Your Cravings Cravings are like bullies. You have to stand up to them in a way that lets them know you’re not going to be pushed around. Trying to avoid bullies, or fight them, doesn't work long-term. It's the same with your cravings. You might try avoiding your cravings, but that doesn’t work. Eventually the cravings win. Then you indulge and feel guilty. The only way to free yourself is to eat the food you crave… but eat it in a different pattern. Think about it. You’ve resisted for so long, then finally you give in. In that moment when you indulge, there is pleasure. This is the core point where things need to change. If you create pain in the moment of indulgence, then you begin to flip your brain to eradicate your desire for that particular food. How? By creating a pain tool. This is a recording of what could go wrong in your life if you don’t solve this issue, which you listen to while you eat the food. By inserting pain in that indulgence, you begin to make friends with your cravings. You stop associating indulging with pleasure, and the cravings subside. Brain Flip Overeating: The way David tackles overeating is to get his clients to split their usual portion into two plates. You eat the first one normally, but you eat the second portion while listening to another pain tool, so you learn to associate being overfull with being in pain. This creates another brain flip. Brain Flip Exercise: David calls this the body brain flip. Now that the cravings and overeating are dealt with, it’s time to reprogram your brain to look at exercise in a completely new way. David gets his clients to create a vision tool - the opposite to a pain tool. Imagine the best that could happen to you as you transform your health and lose the weight, and listen to that audio several times a day to really connect with the feeling of joy. This turns around your usual thinking about exercise being a chore, into something you’re excited about doing. And when you’re excited about doing something, it becomes effortless. Want more? Check out Episode 233, where David delves deep into how the brain flip works to free you of chaotic or compulsive eating. David’s tips to reduce your cravings: If you’re really struggling - schedule a free call with David at www.brainflipweightloss.com/talk Increase the enjoyment of healthy foods - for example listen to great music when you eat them - this will create a positive association Don’t eat healthy foods while you’re stressed - it will create a negative association Don’t allow indulging in the cravings to de-stress you. Relax first, and then indulge. Disconnect indulging in your cravings with usual activity (like eating ice cream while watching tv) - indulge in a different environment Don’t use junk food as a reward - ask yourself “how can I reward myself without eating junk food, in ways that would be even more enjoyable?” Join David’s Facebook support group Being hailed as “Sex and the City for Food,” The Food Heals Podcast brings together experts in the field of nutrition, health and healing to teach you the best-kept natural secrets to being a hotter, healthier, happier YOU! 212: Food Heals Q&A With Gorgeously Green’s Sophie Uliano and Sexy Fit Vegan Ella Magers

Today there’s a lot of blonde power in the recording studio! We’re asking two top health & wellness experts your burning health questions. Sophie Uliano is a nutritionist, green beauty expert, and best-selling author of the Gorgeously Green series of books. She runs retreats and events that empower women to transform from the inside out and be the healthiest they can be. This blonde bombshell taught Julia Roberts and Oprah how to go green BEFORE green was cool. Check out previous episodes 178, 185 and 200 for Sophie’s story and more gorgeously green lifestyle tips. Ella Magers was named one of Shape Magazine’s Top 50 Hottest Trainers in America, and we testify that she’s really hot - and vegan. She’s the author of Six Weeks to Sexy Abs, a book that will transform how you exercise for good. Vegan for 23 years, Ella runs online coaching programs helping people make the transition to a plant-based diet and healthy lifestyle. Check out episodes 97, 169 and 170 for Ella’s story. 1: How much exercise do we really need? The latest scientific research says the optimum amount of exercise is 60 minutes a day. Sounds like a lot, but you don’t have to do it all in one go: you can break it up. If you’re busy, do 10 minutes kettlebell in the morning, throw in a bit of high speed walking at lunchtime, and a spot of yoga in the afternoon. Simply being active in your day to day soon adds up when it comes to fitness. Even tidying up can help you work up a sweat. Consider your goals. If you’re focusing on long term health, lower impact exercise is a good choice. If you’re looking for fast results, go for high-intensity workouts. Ultimately, it’s about finding a balance between the two that works for you. 2: I like to drink a glass of wine every day. I’ve got a pretty healthy routine otherwise, but I just need that glass. Is it ok to have wine? Be plant-powered, eat your greens, and enjoy that glass of wine guilt-free. Firstly, wine is packed with antioxidants, in moderation it’s practically a health food (check out Dr. Cabral’s episode where he shares the secrets to drinking healthily). When you deny yourself something you love, you end up compensating by binging on something else. It’s more important to listen to your body. Definitely don’t feel guilty, because guilt changes the molecular structure of our bodies. So pour yourself that glass of wine, and enjoy every sip. 3: What’s the deal with SPF? Is the sun giving us skin cancer or is it good for us? What are you best recommendations for healthy sunscreen? The sun is not the devil. In fact, vitamin D is vital and you should get between 2000-5000 IU every day. A little bit of sunshine is ok (although definitely avoid the baby oil and the aluminum foil), but you need to be cautious and protect yourself from harmful rays. Our top tips: Wear a hat and non-toxic sunblock. You can make your own by mixing coconut oil and zinc oxide. Avoid conventional sunscreens, they’re packed with hormone-disrupting chemicals and don’t even work. Think about your diet. The more toxic you are, the more you’ll burn. 4: Colonics and enemas. Hype or healing tools? There’s a ton of conflicting information out there. Some say it’s lifesaving, others say it might kill you. The truth is somewhere in between. As a short-term fix or to kickstart your healing journey, they can work miracles. In fact, many Food Heals guests have had positive experiences with them. But some say washing away your microbiome is a bad idea, and colonics shouldn’t be relied upon long-term. If you eat clean and if you’re healthy, you don’t necessarily need colonics because you’re giving your digestive system everything it needs to function and support a healthy gut. The body is clever, it naturally detoxifies, and we can assist it in a gentle way by eating certain herbs and vegetables like cilantro, milk thistle and leafy greens. 5: What are the best green products for hair? Evolve H do a great starter kit for hair. Totally green non-toxic hair care. Bogavia do a delicious shampoo, conditioner and serum that really deliver. EO Products shampoos and conditioners are gluten-free, organic, and infused with essential oils that helps your hair grow. 6: How do you kick a Starbucks addiction? If you’re trying to kick the coffee habit, you can try a matcha tea shot instead. It will really energize you without giving you the jitters. Or give Hiball a try, they give you a natural lift. If it’s the take-out coffee habit you’re trying to shift, then look at it from an economic, health, and environment perspective. You can buy really good organic ethical tea or coffee, organic plant milk with no nasties added, make it at home and take it with you in a reusable cup… not only do you save money, but you avoid chemical-packed non-organic coffee and sugary milks (saving your health), and don’t contribute to the mountain of plasticized coffee cups polluting the oceans (saving the planet). When it comes to coffee with benefits, you can’t go wrong with Foursigmatic, instant coffee infused with medicinal mushrooms. 7: What are your thoughts on drinking aloe vera gel? Aloe vera can be good for food poisoning because it flushes you out and helps the intestinal tract to heal. However, you need to use it with caution, because it can be powerful and some people are super sensitive to it. In small amounts it can be delicious, you can mix it with lemon and mint for a healthy healing lemonade.  8: What are some tips to move out of food addiction and into a healthy relationship with our food? The first thing to acknowledge is that food is just a symptom of disordered eating. The cause is deeper. So switching to veganism or vegetarianism doesn’t automatically cure food addiction. You need to begin by exploring what sits behind those behaviors. What are the thoughts and beliefs fueling your eating patterns? Ultimately, when we reconnect to self-love, and are mindful of what is driving us to crave another serving of ice-cream (vegan or not), we can step out of disordered eating and into a healthy relationship with food.  Being hailed as “Sex and the City for Food,” The Food Heals Podcast brings together experts in the field of nutrition, health and healing to teach you the best-kept natural secrets to being a hotter, healthier, happier YOU! 222: Love Your Face No Matter Your Age - Surgery-Free Anti-Aging Secrets From Pro-Aging Expert Lori Hart

First of all, who made aging bad? We all get older, there’s no getting away from it. But we can do it with grace and ease. Between the ads, the movie stars, the instagrams, the magazines, the voices in our own head, the fact is we don’t feel good about ourselves. And as we get older, it gets worse. Instead of loving our wisdom and our journeys, instead of enjoying our life, we hate ourselves for every new wrinkle. So we run to the doctor and get fillers and injectables and lasers and Botox. But that isn’t the answer. Lori Hart felt insecure about her body when she was young, and in her 20’s, she got talked into having liposuction. But the result was gastroparesis (paralysis of stomach muscles). She decided there and then she wanted to help women love themselves, and achieve gorgeous skin - naturally. So what can we do for flawless, glowing skin? Lori’s tips for youthful skin: Use zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to block the sun Do NOT sleep in your make up - it will age you 13 days each time you do! Avoid harsh ingredients like sodium laureth sulfate at all cost! It’s about health - if your inner health is good, your skin will be tight, hydrated, and youthful. Avoid harsh exfoliation techniques like microdermabrasion - they literally buff your skin off. Don’t use sugar scrubs - your skin absorbs the sugar in the same was as if you eat it. Avoid face-peeling products like retinols, chemical peels and glycolic acid - these thin your skin and make it age faster. Use vitamin C serums. Take vitamin C internally. Ground yourself, go barefoot in the grass! Lori’s mineral make-up includes sunblock that blocks UV rays, which means you can be in the sun all day without having to worry. And the best bit? Lori can even customize it for your unique skin. No additives, no fillers, just natural ingredients, crushed rocks and gemstones. This means you get the energetic vibration of crystals like peridot and tourmaline, combined with ingredients that heal and support your skin. Lori’s cleansing device not only cleanses your skin by pulling toxins out, it has 4 settings that help skincare products penetrate deep enough to make a difference. Her other skincare device is an ultrasound micro-dermabrasive blade that removes all the microscopic grime and gives you a natural facelift, leaving your skin looking and feeling beautifully smooth. If you want more info about the best skincare routine for you, book a skype with Lori, email her at lori@lorihart.com, or give her a call on 310 610 3449. Get Rid of Your Acne And if you suffer from breakouts, then you’ll love the Banish skincare range. Remember Daisy, from Episode 220? She grew up with acne and scarring since 3rd grade. After trying product after product, she found out that some of the ingredients in anti-acne products actually made her skin worse. So she created a brand of skincare without harmful or irritating chemicals. Now, her skin is glowing, smooth, and completely gorgeous. The Banish Kit contains everything you need to banish acne and scars, fade uneven texture and hyperpigmentation, and reduce wrinkles: The Banisher, which works by creating micro wounds in the skin (don’t worry, this is totally painless) and causes the skin to renew itself. Banish Oil, a vitamin C serum containing the most potent form of vitamin C: ascorbic acid. Banish products are made fresh to order, using only natural ingredients. And if you’re not completely satisfied, there’s a 30-day money back guarantee. Head to Banish.com and get $10 off your first order with coupon code foodhealsnation.
