In this episode join special guest co-host Gen and I for an incredibly fun and interesting interview with the man himself, Norman Reedus! Our goal was to cover things you haven't heard Norman answer elsewhere. Norman was personable and forthcoming and a pleasure to talk to. Find out what he wants out of life, what inspires him, what it's like for him to play a video game featuring himself, whether he ever thinks about how zombies smell, how he wants Daryl ultimately to go out on the show, and much, much more. P.S. Norman says he'll marry all of you. You're welcome.

A little bonus episode for you—a great, in-depth interview with non-scientist Josh McDermitt. We talk about:

  • An interesting new (to me anyway) fact about how the zombie sounds are made for the show.
  • How he gets into character.
  • More about how much Eugene had thought out his "cure" and the cause of the zombie breakout.
  • What it was like to film the emotional scene where Eugene finally admits he's "NOT A SCIENTIST!"
  • His resting bitch face.
  • Whether Karen or I was right about whether Eugene saw that Abraham was about to off himself when they first met.
  • And a bunch more.

Join us for this special 100th episode celebration! We had a blast chatting with our guest of honor, Andrew Lincoln, who talked about why he's an actor, his thoughts on the possibility of Rick losing a hand, whether he keeps up with cast mates who've left the show, and much much more.

Tons of other surprises this episode, like the debut of both Nathan Melsted's extended version of our intro song and also our new disgustingly gorgeous Walking Dead 'Cast t-shirts (check 'em out!). We talk with designer Marc Manfre about his inspiration for designing these beautiful babies. And finally, we play your generously congratulatory calls and read a few emails between the two of us from years past.

Thank you so much, by the way, for listening. This has been such a fun thing to do and we're so happy you guys appreciate it and contribute to it and help us make it what it is. RARRRR!!!!!

400: Angela Kang + 10th Anniversary Special

Podcast cover
Read more

It’s our 10th anniversary special, and we’re celebrating in style! First it’s a fun and in-depth interview with TWD showrunner Angela Kang, who has brilliantly reinvigorated the show over the last couple seasons. Then Karen, Lucy, and I go over some of our favorite memories and highlights of doing the podcast over the years. And finally, some sweet and heartfelt messages from a bunch of you.

Putting this episode together reminded me what an incredible experience it’s been doing this podcast over the years, and most of that is because of the people who have been involved with it. So thanks for listening and for being a part of this everybody. Seriously, it’s been one of the most fulfilling things I’ve ever been a part of, and you guys have a lot to do with that.

If you enjoy these podcasts and you'd like to throw in some support (and you're interested in hearing me and Karen on a regular basis, via The Jason & Karen Show), you can pledge at patreon.com/jasonandkaren. Or if you just want to make a one-time donation, you can do that at buymeacoffee.com/cabassi.

Lastly, I’d love it if every one of you guys reading this would make sure to vote this year! You’ve heard it said a lot I’m sure, but this is the most important election I personally have ever known. You can find out if you’re registered, register if you’re not, and apply to vote by mail at vote.org. Thanks guys <3

  • What he thought about the end of The Walking Dead comic series.
  • The upcoming Heavy-Metal-inspired comics that Dan has written, Brooklyn Gladiator (with Simon Bisley of Lobo fame!), Fishkill (with Ben Templesmith of 30 Days of Night!), and Moon Lake.

The original game The Last of Us was an incredible experience: thrilling, beautiful, moving, violent, engaging, and memorable, enough so that it’s not only one of my very favorite games, but also one of my all-time favorite stories, of any kind. We had some pretty mixed feelings about Michonne's sendoff episode, and frankly we think she deserved better, but the episode had some cool things about it, and we have a feeling we might be seeing more of Michonne's katana work sometime down the road. Ever hopeful.

And, Skydance Interactive is about to put out The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, an incredible looking VR game set in a flooded post-apocalyptic New Orleans, where you get to play out your fantasies of what you'd actually do in the ZA. And now for something completely different: This episode I'm so very pleased to talk with two amazing friends who I've met through my involvement with TWD, Walking Dead novelist Jay Bonansinga and Clementine voice actress Melissa Hutchison! We talk all about how being involved in the world of The Walking Dead has impacted our lives, among other things.

And to continue the theme of being a fan of TWD and then getting involved to a greater level, I talk with author Neil Cohen about his book Business Is Dead: Resurrecting Entrepreneurship Through the Fan-Focused Venture. You'll learn about a varied group of people who've each turned their Walking-Dead-related hobby or passion into a business. Plus we talk a little about Neil's zombie novel trilogy inspired by his experience working in government agencies supporting emergency management and counterterrorism.

You can find links to all Neil's books at businessisdead.com.

One of my all-time favorite TV shows (maybe my very favorite) is AMC's Breaking Bad, so I was stoked to hear creator/showrunner Vince Gilligan was releasing a sequel movie, called El Camino, on Netflix. This week Rima, Dianna, and I cover the movie. Church!

Note: We had a few audio problems (some clips and crackles) early on, but it smooths out pretty quick so hang in there.

On the next episode of the Patreon-exclusive Jason & Karen Show podcast we're covering the classic National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, which I love and Karen will be seeing for the first time.
