“I know of nothing else in medicine that can come close to what a plant-based diet can do. In theory, if everyone were to adopt this, I really believe we can cut health care costs by seventy to eighty percent. That's amazing. And it all comes from understanding nutrition, applying nutrition, and just watching the results.” -Dr. T. Rank #15: Episode #36: Lori Manby and Her 80# Weight Loss Journey as a Vegan on Weight Watchers

Podcast cover
Read more

Lori is an amazing master of the mind and she has learned to leverage both her mindset and the art of calorie intake to eat the vegan food she wants and lose weight. There are a lot of lessons to learn from her journey and how she has approached her weight loss. I hope you learn some nuggets and have a happy Sunday!

Lori Manby went vegan for ethical reasons and gained weight in the process. She knew if she wanted to change her body, she’d have to change her mind, so two years later at 210 lbs, she joined Weight Watchers.

The program had the the structure she wanted while she figured out a way to stop the record of doubt playing over and over in her head. She just needed to figure out a way to make it work with her binge eating behaviors and “junk food vegan” diet.

Her “all-or-nothing” personality kicked into overdrive allowing her to quickly “crack the code.”

She’s been maintaining an 80lb loss—and in the process—discovered her life’s purpose and biggest passion: Be open about my deepest, darkest secrets with binge eating and use her techniques to Support, Motivate, and Inspire others with similar stories.

Rank #16: Episode #69: Extreme Picky Eating with Dr. Katja Rowell

Podcast cover
Read more

In this very special episode, I interview a family practice physician who is an expert at feeding children who have extreme food selectivity. I really loved her book, Helping Your Child with Extreme Picky Eating: A Step-by-Step Guide for Overcoming Selective Eating, Food Aversion, and Feeding Disorders because it was very compassionate, loving and practical. After reading her book, I knew she would be a perfect guest for the Intuitive Eating series on Veggie Doctor Radio.

Disclaimer: The information on this blog, website and podcast is for informational purposes only. It is not meant to replace careful evaluation and treatment. If you have concerns about your or your child’s eating, nutrition or growth, consult a doctor.

About featured guest:

Katja Rowell is a relational childhood feeding specialist. During her time in practice as a family doctor, she was struck by the prevalence of disordered eating and feeding challenges and related health problems. Rowell believes that establishing a healthy feeding relationship- in essence- how children are fed is the missing piece in addressing disordered eating and weight dysregulation. Rowell has developed a special interest in selective, or picky, eating and is passionate about sharing a responsive feeding philosophy that reduces conflict and supports the child's internal drive to grow up and do well with eating.

Described as "academic, but warm and down-to-earth," Rowell is a popular speaker and is the author of three books, including Helping Your Child with Extreme Picky Eating and Conquering Picky Eating for Teens and Adults.
