Man of Steel 1 - Stalin 101

Greetings, Comrades! In this episode, we discuss Stalin. ALL that is Stalin. Superman can take a rest...if he was real, and Stalin were the head of the USSR, Supes would end up in a GULAG. We're talking about a man, who almost killed his father, when he was 7. Intentionally. Also, he's endured almost everything. And yeah...this is the happiest episode of the series that I have to make about the person who's responsible for the genocide of my people. About one of the greatest men in history...and one of the most evil, bloodthirstiest men in history. Enjoy. Or not. It's more about me, telling the story this time.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Episode 10 – Chernobyl

Greetings, Comrades! We’ve had a rough February – and we didn’t manage to fix all of our errors in the previous podcasts, but…here we are nonetheless. This show was one of the hardest ever to make, and I really hope you’ll not only enjoy it, but will also take some time to understand the depth of the tragedy. Today’s picture is – Pripyat. Empty, irradiated and ghastly, it stands there to remind us of the evils of ignorance. Please, support us on Patreon (or here) and leave us good ratings on iTunes. Greetings, Comrades! Here's our new episode for you! It's about a country sligthly to the south east of ours, that will probably cease to exist sometime next year. And also some info:1. There's going to be a special new year's ep for Patrons later today.2. Audio on this one was pretty inconsistent, because I don't even know what happened with my recording setup, so we're working on it.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder. Ghosts of the Aral sea

Greetings, Comrades!I’m sort of ok. But in this dark time of mine, I want to bring you one of the most impactful episodes out there. Moreso even than Chernobyl, the stuff that’s happening in the now-drying Aral sea, specifically in the ressurection/rebirth island…yeah. Wanted to do this for a while, and my illness allowed me to do it. Picture: Aral sea with the island.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder. Sex in the USSR (18+)

Greetings, Comrades. I started this ep as a fun thing, about the weird sex-ed book from the Soviet Union. As it stands now, this episode is raw, brutal, sincere, explicit, ugly, offensive and just the story that needed to be told. Because it ended up being about how the whole regime oppressed people, how they tried to control and “normalize” the most intimate aspects of people’s lives and…how those lives were ruined. Also, this is seriously 18+ – I didn’t sugarcoat anything. I didn’t hide anything. And everything’s brutal and honest. Do NOT listen to this if you’re a minor, or overtly emotional or easily offended. You have been warned.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder. Trumping Russia

Greetings, Comrades! This week was a very busy one in the political sense, with the Trump and Putin meeting in Helsinki, and many of you on Facebook and Twiter had asked me to give my insights and opinions about the current events because of that. So…obviously, I complied. Now, this one might sound a bit rambly again, and goes off topic – but the sheer chaos of everything that has been going on, and the fact that we now, truly, do live in very interesting times, means that I had to condense a lot of information. Not particulary proud of this episode, frankly…but I hope it’ll provide you with a fresh look and maybe make you think about the recent events a bit deeper. Episode 2 – The Soviet Army

Greetings, Tovarischi! This episode is about the Soviet army, it’s military might and the trials and tribulations of the common soldier – as heard from those very common soldiers. (And, of course, historical background and information on this as well.) Leave your comments below, and don’t forget to tell everyone about this podcast. Also, I recommend you to go and listen to the Naval History Podcast, by Buckner F. Melton jr. because that podcast really deserves more attention. You can do that here: http://navalhistorypodcast.com/And to make the lawyers happy: The intro music is a fragment from “My Army” by the Red Army Choir, and the epilogue is from “She thinks herself immortal” by Jim Rooster, used under the Creative Commons licence. Man of Steel 17: Of Cults, Books and Eliminating the Opposition

Greetings, Comrades! This time, we’re back to our Stalin series, and you get to hear our new editor’s voice too. This episode serves as a wrap-up and a move to a whole new era. Both for the show, and for Stalin – who, at this point, has destroyed the triumvirate, dealt with Trotsky, and…well has ran a massive campaign against illiteracy, which was amazing for him, because you know, when you’ve learned how to read and write using Stalinist propaganda…yeah, what could possibly go wrong there. Zaharchenko and Prisons

Greetings, Comrades!Due to the death of our favourite separatist, Alexander Zaharchenko in an explosion, I just had to make an episode about it. And then it quite smoothly turned into a gruesome explanation of the “Ponatiya” – the unwritten prison laws, and their harsh inner caste system and things you should and shouldn’t do if you get sentenced in Russia, Belarus or other places in the post-Soviet sphere. But yeah – warning, it does get VERY unsettling.Enjoy. I…hope?Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Man of Steel 18: Teatime discussions about Uncle Joe

Greetings, Comrades! This episode is a great discusson with Sebastian Major from https://ourfakehistory.com/ podcast! He’s just done a great three part series on Stalin myths, which you all should go and listen to immediately. We talk about Uncle Joe, about how he’s portrayed, how he’s influenced history and how sometimes, the hardest part is admitting that it’s humans who’re the greatest villain, and not monsters.P.S. If you’re in the area, come to the Sound Education conference in Harvard – https://www.soundeducation.fm/ I’ll be speaking there on 2nd of November, my speech is from 3.30PM to 4PM in the Divinity Hall, Divinity Chapel there!Enjoy!Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder. Red Dawn 8 - Intermarium

Greetings, Comrades!Today’s episode had a very troubled production. Basically, we had to re-do the script completely, when in the fact-checking segment of the production, we were forced to throw out huge chunks of the material, because it just couldn’t be verified and turned out to be published in some very shady news sites. And it’s no wonder, really, seeing how history is used these days to advance political agendas. For that, we also advance the timeline in Russia a bit, and you get to listen about the gruesome murders of the Romanovs. And the reasons why all of us, in the Baltics, were actually able to beat Bolsheviks in 1918 – 1920. Because “war communism” encapsulates many meanings. Enjoy. If you can.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Estonia tragedy

Greetings, Comrades! This episode is all about the weird Estonia tragedy - the ferry, no the country, that happened in 1994. One of the most tragic sea incidents ever, with 859 people dead, it carries a lot of crazy conspiratorial material. Some of which has been proven to be true. Yet, for the victim and survivor families, there is pretty much still no justice.Enjoy!Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder. Episode 3 – Soviet Culture 101

Greetings, Tovarischi! In this episode I’ll try to introduce you to the basics of the Soviet culture life. And don’t worry, I will return to this subject sometime in the future I well. I hope you’ll enjoy the show. Also, the word “tovarisch” is a latinized spelling of the word  “Товарищ” meaning “Comrade” – and the way of me, pronouncing in the show is the proper Russian pronunciation of it. I received a question about the meaning of this from a listener, and as the answer isn’t included in the show, I thought I should post it here. Red Dawn 9 - NEPman Stalin

Greetings, Comrades! I'll be honest with you - the previous week has been a living hell for me, I'm dealing with a dying grandfather, for whom I have to do all the paperwork while he's still here with us. And it's hard. And Alice has exam season. And Alice spilled water on her laptop, so I had to re-record the whole episode. And then, we had to fix some factual errors in our episode, as it turns out, some of the documentaries that we watched were literally based in nothing. But...we pulled through. We did our best, and clenched our teeth and did amazing things. Like the Soviet people, during the NEP era, when they finally got some opportunities to do some private enterprises. Or, like Stalin, who, even though, curbed all of those private business activities, nonetheless kind of represents the stereotypical NEP-man in the political world. He was shrewd, cunning, tough, witty and...indescribably selfish, evil and with no sense of honor or loyalty to his allies. But...in a way, that's how the businessmen in the NEP were, and Stalin probably has more in common with Ostap Bender and Voland than he probably had imagined. And I'll leave this long description at that, comrades. Enjoy the show!Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
