#3: What's Working Right Now with Facebook Ads

Podcast cover
Read more

Today’s episode of The Art of Paid Traffic is a solo one where we'll be continuing our mini-series on what's working right now with Facebook ads.

Here's a hint...Website Custom Audiences.

If you're not familiar with Website Custom Audiences (or WCAs as the cool kids call them), it's Facebook's version of retargeting. Using this type of targeting allows you to show ads to people on Facebook who have visited your website or landing page.

It's definitely my favorite feature when it comes to targeting Facebook ads because it's so powerful.

In today's episode, I share some strategies and ideas for how avoid leaving big money on the table using Facebook's WCAs so you can maximize leads and sales.

FBA Live Announced for December 2017!

I’m super pumped up to announce my upcoming live Facebook ads implementation workshop here in San Diego.

FBA Live is going to start on Thursday evening, December 7th with an opening night happy hour and then we’ll go Friday and Saturday, December 8th and 9th.

As I mentioned this is an implementation workshop so we’ll be actually working on your Facebook ad campaigns together over the two days and we’ll be having conversations around strategy and areas for improvement for your campaigns.

So much has changed with Facebook ads over the last two months, let alone this year, and my goal is to have you walking away with things set up the right way and improvements made.

When you sign-up for the workshop, it will include access to or a large credit toward one of my training programs which you’ll need go through as much as you can prior to the event.

The reason is, I want this workshop to have the biggest impact for you, so it’s not going to be for complete beginners.

If you’re already one of my students, you’re going to get a big-time discount off the cost of the event.

Again, so that we can have the biggest impact on working with you, spots are going to be limited.

I’m going to be finalizing the details over the next week but I’ve put together an early interest page so you can sign up to be the first to know when you can grab your spot.

And that link is rickmulready.com/earlyinterest.

I love doing these live workshops, hanging out with you for a few days and really moving your Facebook ads and business forward.

How to Ensure your Ad Campaign is Profitable (Everytime) with Tom Breeze

Podcast cover
Read more

Joining me on the show today is my buddy (and brilliant YouTube ads wizard!) Tom Breeze. Tom runs a U.K.-based YouTube ads agency that works with some huge brands and online influencers, and if his name sounds familiar, it’s because this is actually the fourth time he has been a guest on the podcast.

Tom’s not here to talk about YouTube ads today though, although we do touch on it a bit at the beginning of the episode. What we’re really going to dive into is answering a question that I get asked all the time: How much should I be spending on my ad campaign?

He’s going to break this down by getting into all of the stats that we should be keeping an eye on if we want to be running successful ad campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and the other online platforms that exist.

By this end of this episode you’re even going to have an equation for calculating your exact cost for acquiring a customer, which then tells you exactly how much you can be spending per lead. Not only has Tom created a framework for calculating this figure, but he also bakes in the profit margin to be shooting for.

This is an interview that got me so pumped, and I can’t wait to share it with you. Full disclosure, it is a bit heavy on the math, so I’ve if you’re a visual person like me, I’ve put together a PDF download for you to accompany the episode. This resource outlines the calculation that Tom shares today, and you can download it at http://rickmulready.com/278.

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. How do you listen to this podcast? Is it in the iTunes app, Stitcher, Spotify or maybe iHeart Radio? Do you listen to it at regular speed, or maybe like me you listen to your podcasts at 1.5X speed? I want to know! Take a screenshot of you tuning in to The Art of Paid Traffic, and include it on your Instagram Story, while tagging me, @RickMulready!

Want to win a 30-minute strategy session with me? I’ll be drawing one winner at random each month, and all you have to do is give me your feedback on this podcast over at http://rickmulready.com/messenger, telling me what you’d like to hear more of - including topics you’d like to see covered, guests, style and frequency of the show!

On the Show Today You’ll Learn:
  • Why diversification of traffic is so important and strategies for doing this
  • The different types of offers that work best with YouTube ads versus Facebook ads
  • The numbers you should be watching very carefully in order to have a successful campaign
  • Revenue – Cost = Profit isn’t ideal (and the formula to use instead to start looking at profit differently)
  • How you can improve your revenue per lead and why this can help save you from comparing yourself with the competition
  • A case study of how he lowered a client’s lead cost from $9.33 to $4.44, while lowering the view rate and increasing the clickthrough rate of the campaign
  • The 5 key pages to have in a funnel and what Tom is tracking throughout it
  • How he is achieving an amazing 60-80% show up rate for evergreen funnels on YouTube
  • The recommended time it’ll take to evaluate the numbers in your funnel in order to start making tweaks and modifications

#172: 2017 Facebook Ads Lessons + What to Expect In 2018

Podcast cover
Read more

For this first podcast episode of 2018, I’m taking a look back at some of the big lessons that I learned about advertising on Facebook in 2017. I’m also looking ahead at what to expect in this year in terms of Facebook advertising, and online marketing in general, and sharing this with you.

It’s not enough to just be running multiple campaigns on Facebook, you’re going to need to know what you want to accomplish and have a clear strategy around this…

With the frequent changes on the platform, it’s up to the advertiser to check Facebook’s policies on a very regular basis, as well as keeping up on all of the platforms and emerging technology so that you can take a holistic approach to marketing your brand.

A lot of what I talk about today, like building relationships and being aware of your customer journey, can be considered fundamentals of marketing and things I discuss often. However, you’ll see just how important it is going to be to determine how to best have a personalized conversation with your target audience and to do this as soon as possible.

On the Show Today You’ll Learn:

  • Why you’ll need to pay even more attention to things such as relevance score and your positive and negative Facebook reviews
  • How you can be using video to market your business - and why you don’t need a big production budget for videos to be effective
  • My recent experience testing Instagram Story Ads in a recent launch and what to think about if you’re considering using them as well
  • What’s now allowing us to better leverage “big data” and why you’re going to need to really know your numbers to get the most out of it
  • Advanced applications that are gaining traction very quickly and will provide advertisers big opportunities in the very near future
  • The two social platforms making improvements that will become bigger players in online marketing for 2018

Stay tuned for the next episode with Jim Fortin, as we talk about how to ethically use subconscious selling to improve your ads and get more sales. We go deep in this conversation, and Jim shares so many fascinating insights on mindset and sales.

How to Make Facebook & Instagram Ads Easy...

Podcast cover
Read more

Facebook and Instagram ads aren’t difficult, but with so much talk about them being overwhelming and scary, I wanted to record this episode for everyone who thinks that they are “hard.” I can speak from experience and say that once you get over this fear, it will allow you to gain traction and scale your business so much more quickly, like it did for my business when I started years ago.

What I’m seeing is that people either aren’t even trying to use Facebook and Instagram ads, or they’re giving up on them too soon, but trust me, they do work if you’re patient and you allow the algorithms to do what they’re supposed to do!

As you’ll hear in this episode, it’s the people who are willing to try running ads and constantly test them (and then test them some more) who are going to win…

What I am doing today is taking the mystery out of what makes successful Facebook and Instagram ads, and this is an episode that you’ll definitely want to go through more than once. Dive in, apply the strategies that I share, take action and start testing, because Facebook and Instagram ads really aren’t “hard!”

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. At this time we have over 500 5-Star ratings and reviews on Apple Podcasts, which is great, but I’ve set a goal to get 750 of them by the end of Q3, Sept 30th, 2019. If you’ve gotten value from this podcast, I’d really appreciate you subscribing and leaving an honest rating and review. Take a screenshot, share it on your Instagram Stories and tag me, @rickmulready. When we hit the 750 ratings and reviews, I’ll be raffling off a book bundle of my top 10 business and mindset books for one lucky winner. If you’ve already left a rating and review, just take a screenshot and tag me on Instagram, and you’ll be eligible to win as well!

  • The right mindset you need to have and approach you’ll need to have in order to get the most out of your Facebook and Instagram campaigns
  • The importance of doing the upfront work, then following the steps in order, in an “algorithm friendly” way
  • What getting clear on your end goal will allow you to do, and a case study of a student of mine who effectively implemented her ads strategy this way
  • Why you’ll need to understand your target audience, and sub-audiences, and how to begin speaking with them
  • How to find your target audience on Facebook and the tools I recommend to do it
  • Specific questions you can begin to ask yourself that will set your campaigns up for success
  • A walkthrough of the campaign set ups, and what to consider in terms of objective, optimization, budget and more
  • A simple trick that you can use for your messaging (even if you “suck” at writing copy)!
  • It’s hard to do, but why in most case you need to leave your ads alone for the first 3 to 5 days…

#163: Creating Your Ideal Facebook Ads Business from Scratch with Salome Schillack

Podcast cover
Read more

I’m excited today to welcome one of my students to the podcast. Her name is Salome Schillack and her website and business is called ShineAndSucceed.com. Salome lives down in Australia and she’s quickly created an awesome Facebook ads business for herself, while being one of the most positive and passionate people I know who’s trying to help female online business owners.

In this episode Salome talks about the ways she’s been able to grow her Facebook ads business, the mindset you need to have if you are going to do this too and what it’s like to move on from a client that’s draining you (even if you really want the income from that client)!

She also shares her strategy for getting clients when she was first starting out and you might be surprised to hear the number of free campaigns she had to run at first. Salome reveals the real reason why she’s doing what she’s doing, and we look at the “Ripple Effect” that this sort of work can have in the world.

On the Show Today You’ll Learn:
  • Her first experience using Facebook ads to grow her own business (and why she initially thought 5x’ing her investment was a “terrible failure”)
  • How she came to realize there’s a daily budget requirement needed for Facebook ads and that working with a client for one-month isn’t a long enough to really see results…
  • The systems she put in place so she didn’t have to “re-invent the wheel” when going through the onboarding process
  • Ways she’s using video, Instagram and more to optimize her clients’ Facebook ads, instead of just images
  • How her pricing structure has evolved since starting her business
  • Why she feels so strongly that Facebook ads need to be the cornerstone of a marketing campaign and the part of my Facebook Ads Manager course that has helped her the most

My next episode is a favorite of mine to date, as I talk with Tiffany Cavegn from KidsCookingSchool.org. She’s going to reveal how she, as a person brand new to Facebook ads, is using them to grow her business. You’re going to love her story!

Strategy Session: Basic Sales Funnel Breakdown + Targeting New FB Ads Audiences

Podcast cover
Read more

I haven’t done a strategy session episode in a while, but the feedback I’ve gotten is that you want to hear more of them, so today I’m bringing you a conversation with one of my ROI Club membership students.

Larissa Maclemon serves salon owners in the hair and beauty space through a membership program and a done-for-you service at her site, SalonOwnersCollective.com. Her program teaches members how to market their businesses and it helps take the overwhelm out of the tech side of marketing their salon businesses.

As you’ll hear, she’s currently running warm traffic into a sales funnel, beginning with an opt-in that leads to an email sequence and eventually to a 3-day special offer to get 50% off the first month of her membership program.

In this strategy session, we’re going to be breaking down Larissa’s funnel, which is pretty basic at this time and talking about the need to really know your numbers so that you have an accurate picture of how your funnel is performing. A lot of what we cover today is about building warm audiences to target with Facebook ads, as well as expanding her Facebook ads into cold targeting interests.

  • What problems Larissa is solving for her clients now and why she is looking to pivot her business
  • The struggles she’s having around getting traffic to her lead magnet, and my thoughts about her current funnel
  • Why I think the length of Larissa’s nurture sequence may be causing issues with the overall performance of her funnel
  • What to consider when it comes to opt-ins and a strategy she can use to test an offer right away
  • My suggestions to Larissa for a targeting strategy and why getting too targeted with ads isn’t a good idea
  • How she can use Facebook Audience Insights within Ads Manager and tips for increasing her potential audience size
  • Ways she can test to her Facebook page and my suggestions for pixel use

Coming up on this week’s Quick Tip episode, I’m going to be sharing how you can answer the question, “was this a successful workday or not?” I admit that this is something I’ve struggled with in the past, and I’ll be discussing what I’ve done to overcome it, as well sharing with you what my friends in the mastermind group I’m a part of had to say about this topic.

How to Create Massive Pre-Launch Buzz with Facebook/IG Ads

Podcast cover
Read more

This past August I was a guest on my friend Amy Porterfield’s Marketing Made Easy podcast, where I discussed 3 different strategies (plus a bonus!) for using Facebook ads in your pre-launch, or that crucial 60 to 90 days timeframe leading up to cart open. I wanted to share part of this conversation with Amy here today, because we covered a lot of things that could not only help you launch, but also build your email list year round, lower your ad costs, and a whole lot more.

You’ll hear actual strategies that both Amy and I have used in our businesses to make the best use of this critical pre-launch phase, including some beginner and advanced strategies for you to try implementing in your own business.

What Amy and I talk about in this episode isn’t rocket science. It’s really all about focusing on the basics when it comes to running Facebook ads and launching your new course or program. The people who are willing to be patient and that stick with these basic principles are the ones who will be rewarded in the end!

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. At this time we have over 500 5-Star ratings and reviews on Apple Podcasts, which is great, but I’ve set a goal to get 750 of them now by the end of this year, December 31st, 2019. On the Show Today You’ll Learn:

  • What Amy does (and her mindset) during her own pre-launch phase and the benefits of focusing on this specific time period
  • Ways to use video to create content, add value and overcome objections, plus the objective to use and what to optimize for when running ads to your video
  • What type of videos are working best for marketers as Facebook ads (and why polished and scripted isn’t always better)
  • How to use ads to build your email list and attract your ideal audience for your launch, plus why a longer pre-launch period can pay you huge dividends
  • The power of a pop-up Facebook Group during pre-launch, and what I’ve done to attract the right people into mine
  • The reasons that it helps to be consistent with your Facebook advertising at all times, and not just when you’re preparing to launch

Case Study: 3 Facebook Messenger Campaigns That Are Crushing It

Podcast cover
Read more

On today’s episode I welcome back Steve Loiselle, a student of mine who is absolutely crushing it for his local business clients with his Facebook Messenger campaigns. I asked Steve to come back so he could take you through 3 case studies where he’s getting amazing results, including one for a local real estate agent, one for a restaurant owner in a small town, and the campaign Steve is doing for his martial arts gym that’s opening soon.

You’re going to hear how the real estate campaign led to the sale of two houses, including one that was $600,000, in only 5 days and with a small ad spend of just $260. The restaurant owner more than 10X’d the initial ad spend of $250, and Steve sold 20 new memberships at $657 for his marital arts gym that doesn’t open until June 2019, with an ad spend of $300!

Steve has become the “go to” person for advice in our Facebook group when in comes to Facebook Messenger campaigns, not only is he doing so well for his clients, but because he’s doing it in some very small local markets in Eastern Canada.

I continue to be so impressed by Steve and the campaigns he’s running for his clients. How is he accomplishing these results? By being patient, consistent, doing his research and by always testing and re-testing.

Make sure to stick around to the end of the episode, as I’m going to give you the details on a special live training and I will be doing with founder and CEO of Opesta, Ethan Sigmon, all around Facebook Messenger. If you’re not using Facebook Messenger right now you’re going to want to check this out, because there are a lot of very cool things we’ll be talking about that you could be doing right now to market and grow your business!

• What motivated Steve to focus Facebook Messenger versus the other forms of online advertising
  • People love to connect – how he’s using this to increase the results he’s seeing in his clients’ campaigns
  • The funnel he used for his real estate client and what he did to pre-qualify and increase the quality of leads coming in
  • The objective he used to get 23 cent leads in this campaign and how he targeted the ads in such a small area
  • Why the language he used for the bot was so important and contributed to the success they saw in the campaign
  • What Steve did before even approaching the owner of the restaurant to propose working together
  • The contest giveway funnel he used to generate a 10x return on the restaurant owner’s ad spend, and what he would do differently next time to make even more for his client
  • How Steve used Facebook Messenger to created awareness for his soon-to-open martial ads studio and the objective he used to build an audience
  • The funnel that led to 110 email subscribers for his new business in just 3 days and how he’s using video to increase interaction with his customers

I invited Joey on because he’s a great case study in that he’s using everything we talked about in Episode 3, with Facebook ads website custom audiences (Facebook retargeting).  If you haven’t already listened to that, definitely have a listen.

Joey’s crushing it with Facebook’s retargeting and today you’re gonna learn how he’s making big profits with website custom audiences and how he’s found his sweet spot when it comes to changing the length of time he’s tracking users to his website.  He’s been really smart about this and his results show it.  We’re going to break it all down for you today, discuss his exact strategy as well as his results.

In this Episode You'll Hear

  • How Joey is getting huge ROI by using Facebook retargeting to make special discount offers to people who have visited his sales page within the same day.
  • Which website custom audiences duration is working the best for Joey after testing several different combinations.  Hint: one duration has been working best for sales and another duration has been crushing it for webinar registrations.
  • How Joey is using tracking codes and the special strategies for tracking unique sales coming from his Facebook ads.
  • The special ad copy that Joey includes in his Facebook ad that has increased CTR and conversion.
  • Which Facebook ad objective Joey is using to get more conversions (this might surprise you!).

Podcast cover
Read more

On the show today I’m joined by a woman named Devani Freeman who runs a social media marketing business here in San Diego called Heart Centered Social where she works with both online and local businesses.

A big part of her business is managing FB ads for businesses and one area where she’s found a lot of success is using Facebook ads to drive into a  5-day challenge.

And I asked her to come onto the show to share some case studies of challenges she’s run for her own business as well as those of her clients.

I really like the strategy that Devani uses, because it’s a pretty straightforward one that anyone can use, and best of all, a large ad budget isn’t needed.

Today you’re going to learn:
  • How Devani generated $57K by using a challenge that had just 500 people in it.
  • How she uses challenges to sell high-ticket programs
  • What every challenge needs in order to give it a chance to be successful
  • What she noticed about the quality of leads when people went through her 4-week mini-course first
  • She shares a case study of a client who had a $100K month by running a challenge to cold traffic
  • We talk about Devani’s strategy for making compelling Facebook video ads
  • How to use a Facebook group in your challenge strategy
  • Why you don’t need to have a huge audience going through your challenge in order to see success.
  • And more today...

The Key to Successful Facebook Ads in 2017

Podcast cover
Read more

Welcome to a short, “in-between” episode of The Art of Paid Traffic podcast where on today’s show, you’ll learn the Key to Successful Facebook Ads in 2017.

Really, this is the key to any paid traffic whenever you’re running it.

You see, paid traffic is a mindset.  It’s a mindset of being willing to put in the work to test to find what works.

It’s the people who are patient and open to experimenting who are gonna win. And since you listen to the podcast here, I know you have the mindset to do it.

I can teach you what works, the foundational principles of how to incorporate these strategies into your business, but the most important thing to remember is to always be testing.

Don’t be locked into one specific way to do things.  You’ve gotta test different things to get data to tell you what’s working and what’s not.

In this episode we’ll look at current examples of smart testing as well as discuss a list of things you might want to consider testing in your own Facebook ad campaigns.

How to Find Your Facebook Ads Target Audiences

Podcast cover
Read more

A few shows back I did a Quick Tip episode, which talked about how specific you should be getting when it comes to your Facebook Ads targeting. It raised a lot of questions from listeners who messaged me and asked how to go about finding target audiences in Ads Manager, which is why I wanted to do this show today.

A lot of people think they have to be as targeted as possible, but this is really no longer the case with Facebook. You want to be targeted, but you’re going to want to give more data to Facebook’s algorithm so it’ll find that target audience who are looking to convert, if that’s what your objective is.

In this episode I share how I approach finding target audiences for my Facebook Ads, and I take you through my entire process for doing this.

The key here is that you’ve got to do the work upfront, and that research will give you a clear and holistic understanding of your target audience. If you’re currently managing ads for other people, you’ll have to do the exercise I talk about today for your clients as well.

Like a lot of things on Facebook, targeting best practices is constantly changing, which is another reason while you’ll want to listen to and subscribe to this podcast, as well as be a customer of my other programs and products related to paid advertising.

• Why defining who your target audience is should be your very first step

• A killer website for getting ideas for your ad copy

• An example of how I would do niche targeting in a specific industry

• A free tool inside Facebook Ads Manager that I use to mine for data when researching my target audience

• My process for building an overarching list of targeting opportunities that is the beginning iterations of potential ad sets

• The number of people I want in my ad sets and why I want a bigger number when my objective is conversions

• The reasons why I usually start with my warm audiences and the order I like to follow

• What to do when you see a good Facebook ad that could be relevant to your business displayed in your newsfeed

Coming up on the next episode I have a Quick Tip where we’re going to be talking about why more leads isn’t always the answer to increasing the amount of revenue in your business, and I’ll take you through an example of what we’re doing here in my business around this concept.

The Secret to Improving Your Facebook/IG Ad Targeting & Copy

Podcast cover

Today I want to take you through an exercise that can drastically improve the results you’re getting with your Facebook and Instagram ads. This is an exercise that I’ve gone through with quite a few people in the trainings that I do, including at a recent live retreat for my Accelerator Mastermind - and it blew them away!

This exercise is really the upfront work that you need to be doing before you even open Facebook Ads Manager to set up your ads, but I still see so many people not taking the time to do this.

What I’m talking about today has everything to do with your target audience and fully understanding them. Yes, your ideal customer avatar is important, but when it comes to running ads you need to take it a step further and learn how to effectively subsegment your ideal customer. If you’re already doing something like this in your business, or you implement what I share in this episode, let me know over on Instagram, @rickmulready!

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. At this time we have over 500 5-Star ratings and reviews on Apple Podcasts, which is great, but I’ve set a goal to get 750 of them now by the end of this year, December 31st, 2019.

  • How each group of your customers will require a different conversation (and why not changing your messaging is a lost opportunity)
  • Why you’ll want to remind each group of people of the transformation that is possible with your product or service
  • What I’d recommend doing to set these segments up in Facebook Ad Manager
  • An example of this exercise in action, in my own business!

#167: The Million Dollar Facebook Ads Tweak with Jarrod Bentley & Ethan Sigmon

Podcast cover
Read more

Today I’m doing something a bit different as I’m joined by not one, but two guests on the podcast. You may recognize Ethan Sigmon’s name from a past episode where he talked about how to create high-converting Instagram ads. This time Jarrod Bentley, who hired Ethan to run his Facebook ads, is also here and we’re going to dive into how they’re using a Facebook video ads strategy to sell fitness DVDs.

Jarrod comes from an infomercial background and he reveals what led him to move away from television to online marketing, as well as the struggles he faced when he first started. He also shares how he was able to learn Facebook advertising and see success with the platform, along with a tweak he made that literally resulted in a million dollars in revenue!

Jarrod also shares details about how their Facebook ad account was shut down, and why looking back he now considers this the best thing that could have happened to him…

Ethan walks us through the steps he used to get the Facebook ads running again once becoming involved, and to how they are now spending upwards of $6,000 a day on ads…

You’ll see that a lot of what we touch on here can be considered advanced topics when it comes to Facebook advertising, but I’m still excited to bring the conversation to you because I think anyone that’s marketing on Facebook can really benefit from the information that is given in this episode.

On the Show Today You’ll Learn:
  • Why Jarrod saw Facebook as the best option to identify and target his ideal customer, and the first types of ads he used to test Facebook
  • The reasons Ethan was brought onboard to help – and the advantages to having an expert manage your ad campaigns
  • What approach to take should your Facebook ads be shut down for any reason
  • Strategies to use when comes to video engagement audiences, lookalike and  overlap audiences
  • Mindset shifts for business owners to make in order to be able to focus on their core competencies!

Want to win a free 30-minute strategy session with me? To enter all you have to do is give me your feedback on the podcast. Overwhelmed In Your Business? You’re Not Alone, with Greg Hickman

My guest today is my good friend Greg Hickman, who is the founder and CEO of System.ly. Their mission is to enable and support entrepreneurs to amplify their best so they can spend their time on the things that matter most. Why I really wanted to have Greg on the show today is because a couple months ago he posted something on his Facebook page that really caught my eye, and it’s something that I’ve felt and experienced in the recent past.

Today you’ll hear me read Greg’s entire post, and what he said is something that doesn’t get talked about enough. This is a wide-ranging conversation on what it’s really like to build and grow an online business, and we reveal it all in this episode.

We talk about things like why’s it’s actually ok to feel overwhelmed, and how the problems and challenges that you face in business won’t magically disappear as you grow your business.

Greg shares what happens when you let someone else’s definition of a “successful” business guide your actions, and how you don’t always need to be climbing a mountain and playing the comparison game with others.

This conversation is one that might happen over coffee, or behind closed doors, but not openly on a podcast. We both share our experiences and I think it’s going to provide a lot of value to listeners, which is why I wanted to bring this episode to you today.

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. • The fears and hesitations that he faced with his pivot, plus what told him he was on the right path after he made it
  • Why it’s so important to define and strive for your own version of success, not someone else’s
  • The reasons he broke and remodeled his business, and the important lessons he learned from this process
  • The power of keeping your business simple versus complex
  • Why Greg feels that it’s not possible to focus on profit and growth at the same time

How to Overcome the Limiting Beliefs that Are Stopping You, with Dr. Shannon Irvine

Podcast cover
Read more

Regular listeners of the podcast will know that I’ve been on a journey to discover more about how success comes from taking an inside-out approach, which is why I’m so excited to geek out with today’s guest. My friend Dr. Shannon Irvine helps entrepreneurs train their brains to transform their businesses, and it may take listening to this episode a couple of times to really grasp what she reveals here, but trust me, it’ll be worth it.

As you’ll hear, Shannon is the ideal person to have this discussion with. As she earned her PhD, she discovered that our brains are able to change, and that we can actually hardwire new ways of thinking, acting, and being. When she dug into this internal work and combined it with the strategies she had been relying on for years, she was finally able to integrate her life and her business. She now is able to take time away to spend with her kids, increase her impact through my nonprofit, Mosaic Vision, and grow her revenue.

The best part is that it’s not that difficult to remove the mental blocks that are holding you back, and in this episode Shannon provides tactical tips and action steps you can start taking today to do this, along with access to her free daily brain priming audio series – that just takes minutes a day!

In this episode we cover self-worth, our subconscious, money beliefs and the science behind what makes someone successful, in whatever way you define success. What Shannon shares today shows that it all really comes down to the realization that we are the creators of our thoughts, and we really do have the choice to get where we want to go.

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. At this time we have over 500 5-Star ratings and reviews on Apple Podcasts, which is great, but I’ve set a goal to get 750 of them now by the end of this year, December 31st, 2019. • The inside-out approach that will get you off the “hustle treadmill” – for good
  • Why we shouldn’t be placing our self-worth in our businesses, and each of our experiences with this
  • How long it takes to reprogram your subconscious (the answer will probably shock you!)
  • What Shannon sees as the single biggest challenge that entrepreneurs face today, and how a simple reframe can make all the difference with it

Defining YOUR Version of Business (and Life) Success, with Mel Abraham

Podcast cover
Read more

Today you’re going to hear a conversation that I had with my very good friend Mel Abraham, and this might be the most important podcast interview I’ve ever done. I’ve known Mel for several years now and he’s a brilliant entrepreneur, amazing person and mentor to me on so many different levels. Not only is Mel a CPA with multiple online businesses, a best-seller author, a coach and a consultant, but he’s so much more. Although Mel is an expert in entrepreneurial finances and building wealth, in this episode he’s focusing on something that he hasn’t really talked about publicly before – how he’s beating cancer.

I recently invited Mel to speak to my Accelerator Mastermind group at our retreat in San Diego, and a few minutes before he was set to start I asked him if he would be willing to talk about everything he’s gone through recently with his health, and the lessons that he’s learned along the way.

Mel and I often discuss business and life, and one of the things that has impacted me the most is how he’s rebalanced his priorities due to the cancer diagnosis, and you’re going to hear how he’s done that today.

This is really a story about how Mel’s starting life with a clean slate, and the way he’s decided to do what makes him truly happy. I want to make sure that you (and myself), are setting our own definition of success too, just like Mel has.

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. At this time we have over 500 5-Star ratings and reviews on Apple Podcasts, which is great, but I’ve set a goal to get 750 of them now by the end of this year, December 31st, 2019. • His mindset after receiving the cancer diagnosis – plus how it literally changed his very existence
  • Why he and his wife put a team together, and the steps they took to fight it head on
  • The way that Mel learned it’s really ok to ask others for help and to be vulnerable
  • What he’s adding back on his plate, and the things he’s not pursuing anymore, as he liberates himself from the stresses of life and business and focuses on experiencing joy
  • Mel’s framework for creating a “wealthy” life that isn’t just abundant financially

On the Show Today You’ll Learn:
  • How each group of your customers will require a different conversation (and why not changing your messaging is a lost opportunity)
  • Why you’ll want to remind each group of people of the transformation that is possible with your product or service
  • What I’d recommend doing to set these segments up in Facebook Ad Manager
  • An example of this exercise in action, in my own business!

How I Did It: LiveStream Launch Formula

Podcast cover
Read more

Last year I was looking for a new way to launch my Facebook Ad Manager program, and I just didn’t feel like doing a webinar launch, even though it’s something I like to do and have had lots of success with. In the past I’ve also used a traditional video series to launch, where I scripted and recorded the vidoes over the course of a few weeks, but to be honest I could not have hated that process more (even though it was effective and we helped a lot of people with it)! So I decided to combine these two types of launches last year, but with a twist. I created what I call the LiveStream Launch Formula, which I will be sharing with you today.

The first time I used the LiveStream Launch Formula in early 2018 it was so successful, and I had so much fun, that I just knew I had to try it again late last year. Both of these launches ended up being some of the biggest ones I’ve ever had, so today I wanted to teach you how you can use the LiveStream Launch Formula in your own business.

In this episode I’m going to share the framework I use, the big lessons and takeaways I’ve learned from doing it, the results I’ve achieved, and a whole lot more.

So if you’re looking for a new way to launch, I hope you find value in what I have to share today. Don’t hesitate to put your own twist on things though, and as always, keep testing and see what works for you on your next launch. Good luck!

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. On the Show Today You’ll Learn:

  • How I used a pop-up Facebook Group to generate engagement and excitement, while making sure I controlled who would be allowed in it
  • The 3 different offers I made to get people to register for the live video series
  • Why I recommend you work backwards when planning a launch, starting from the cart close date (plus the way that I do it)
  • A big mistake that I made the first time I used the LiveStream Launch Formula, and how I fixed this going forward
  • The structure of each live training, and the ways that I created an open loop for participants to want the next one
  • What to remember when offering an upsell, and the results I got from mine
  • Two key things I did during the cart open week that could help your next launch
  • A breakdown of the stats, including return on investment, cost per lead and the highest earnings per lead number I’ve ever gotten from a launch
  • The two most successful ad campaigns I ran for the launch, and what didn’t work that well

How to Increase Sales By Understanding Your Buyer’s Journey

Podcast cover
Read more

You’ve likely heard the concept of building the “know-like-trust” factor in order to convert leads into sales. As a business owner you have to have some sort of strategy for getting someone from the place of not even knowing who you are, to becoming a paying customer. Understanding your customer journey is critical for your business, which is why I wanted to talk about it today.

This is something I recently took my October mastermind group through, and it opened up a lot of eyes…

Frankly, the customer journey isn’t something that a lot of people teach, but I can tell you that it is a major reason why people aren’t converting leads to sales in their businesses.

On this episode I’m going to break it all down for you and simplify everything, and after listening, you’ll see why your offer most likely isn’t the problem if you’re having trouble getting sales. What I share with you today will help give you better understanding of your customer’s journey, and why it’s so important to your success!

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. At this time we have over 500 5-Star ratings and reviews on Apple Podcasts, which is great, but I’ve set a goal to get 750 of them now by the end of this year, December 31st, 2019. • The 5 different stages of awareness and how they each apply to your business
  • Why you should be taking the time to build awareness, rather than going immediately to the next step
  • Content and marketing strategies to implement at each stage of the process
  • What needs to happen after a buyer purchases from you
  • How I reverse engineer the customer journey starting with my end goal in mind

Strategy Session: From Confusion to Clarity, with Amanda Genther

Podcast cover
Read more

Today’s strategy session is with Amanda Genther, who is best known for creating custom sales page design for people launching online courses, membership sites, higher-ticket group coaching and mastermind groups. Amanda is in a bit of a transition phase, as she’s trying to decide which direction to go in next in her business. As you’ll hear in this episode, she’s got no shortage of options to consider!

Amanda breaks down each of the paths she could go take next, including focusing a course that she’s launched in the past, growing her membership site, restarting her “done-for-you” services work with individual clients, and she has even thought about designing templates for her clients.

Of all of the options that Amanda is considering, there are definitely ones that I like better than the others, and I give her my thoughts on each. One of the options is something that could be considered “easy money”, but it’s not what is going to move the needle for what Amanda really wants to do long-term, so I share with her what I would do instead, complete with a detailed launch strategy to set herself up success.

By the end of this call Amanda commits to this strategy, and I believe that by committing to just one thing and really focusing on it, that’s when things are going to completely change for her and her business. If you are an entrepreneur who isn’t sure which way to go next, what I cover today can help give you clarity as well going forward.

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. At this time we have over 500 5-Star ratings and reviews on Apple Podcasts, which is great, but I’ve set a goal to get 750 of them now by the end of this year, December 31st, 2019. On the Show Today You’ll Learn:
  • How Amanda’s course launches to date have fared, complete with revenue breakdowns, pricing strategy, webinar stats and more
  • What blocks she has around launching her online program, and how it’s been contributing to the confusion she’s felt
  • How her membership site has done to date, the simple launch strategy she’s used for it, and the feedback she’s been getting from her members
  • The way that Amanda’s one-on-one client work is holding her back, even though it looks to be “easy money”
  • What is the number one problem her audience is having with sales pages, and an upsell that she could offer them to help solve it
  • Why I feel that Amanda doesn’t need to just talk about sales pages (it’s ok to pivot!), and what she can do to easily overcome the two main objections that buyers will have
  • Who she’s targeting now with her lead generation campaign – and the amazing results she’s getting!
  • Amanda’s exciting launch plans for next month, plus the tweaks and changes I would suggest to make it even better

How to Be an ‘Entrepreneur With Impact’

If you’ve been following why I rebranded the podcast to The Art of Online Business, you know that I’ve been thinking a lot about the evolution of my business this past year. In fact, I really changed the lens through which I view my business since the birth of my daughter in December of 2018, which I’ve talked a lot about recently. I felt like I was doing you all a disservice by teaching only one piece of the puzzle, and building a truly impactful business requires a lot more than just Facebook and Instagram ads (although they are still an integral part of it all)! It’s easy to overlook the other critical things that are needed, like having the right mindset, getting organic traffic and building out a team, to name a few. It’s for this reason that I have created what I call the “Impact Entrepreneur Framework”, which is made up of four stages, or systems, of an impactful business. When you’ve mastered each of these four systems within the framework, you’ve got a business that makes a lot of money, is profitable and truly makes an impact on a ton of people!  I’m going to break down this framework for you today, and if you’re a visible learner like I am, I’ve created a diagram of the framework that accompanies this episode, and you can find the link to download it at https://s3.amazonaws.com/RickMulready.com/Accelerator/impact_framework_092719.pdf Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. On the Show Today You’ll Learn:
  • How I’ve used this framework to hit 7-figures in my business, and why I want to share it with you today
  • What makes up the identity stage and why it starts with having a holistic understanding of your audience
  • The reasons that I believe positioning should make up the foundation of your marketing system
  • Why the sales system is the most important system of them all – and the elements that make up a successful one
  • The biggest challenge and mindset hurdle that I had to overcome in order to scale my business
  • The real problem with having multiple offers and chasing “bright shiny objects”
  • When you should start documenting your standard operating procedures (hint: it’s right now if you haven’t begun already)!

Why I’m Retiring “The Art of Paid Traffic”

Podcast cover

This past year has been full of new chapters for me. I became a new father in December of 2018 when my daughter was born, and that really became a sort of domino effect of changes in not only my personal life, but in my business too. I suddenly got super-clear on what I really want to do in my business, including who I want to help and the kind of impact that I’m here to make.

As you’ve heard me say many times on the podcast, Facebook and Instagram ads are just one part of growing and running an online business, but I’ve been actively learning, implementing, testing and mastering many other elements to it. By not sharing what has helped me, in addition to just paid advertising, would be a major disservice to you.

I’m here to show you the complete picture for growing a profitable and impactful online business, and to do this, I’ve decided to change the name of this podcast. Yes, you read that right! The Art of Paid Traffic is officially going into retirement, in order to make way for something a little more all-encompassing. You have nothing to worry about though, as I’ll be running through what this all means for you (and me!) in this episode.

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. On the Show Today You’ll Learn:
  • The role that paid traffic played in building my online business, and why I still feel Facebook and Instagram ads are very relevant today
  • The other essential pieces of the puzzle that are needed to build and grow a business with impact
  • What this change is and isn’t, and what you can still expect to get each week from the podcast
  • Why now is the ideal time to do this, and the reasons that I’m ok with the potential risks in making this pivot
  • How I feel about this transition and the lessons you can take from my decision to make it
  • The importance of never losing sight of your “Why”, and what feeling fear really means for you on your journey
