HHHK 286: The Latest in Keto Research with Cliff Harvey, PhD - Part 2

Health, Happiness & Human Kind

In today’s episode we are joined by Cliff Harvey to explore two publications, firstly, ‘A plant-based, low-fat diet decreases ad libitum energy intake compared to an animal-based, ketogenic diet: An inpatient randomized controlled trial’ and secondly ‘Effects of a Ketogenic Diet on Muscle Fatigue in Healthy, Young, Normal-Weight Women: A Randomized Controlled Feeding Trial’. We discuss the unprovable proposition that there is one best diet for everyone, and consider the bookend phenomena - that maybe extremes are not the answer for anyone. Cliff is a wealth of knowledge and I hope you will enjoy the dissection of these studies and consider the role of subject size, statistics and cross over designed studies, as well as findings being replicated by future studies. Let’s dive in. Visit https://www.stephlowe.com/podcasts/286 for show notes, episode transcripts and more.

We then discuss glutamine and the relevance of protein intake versus the prevention of muscle wastage, the role of a holistic and individualised approach to cancer treatment, future directions including the press-pulse strategy and so much more.   Cliff Harvey online: http://www.cliffharvey.com The Carbohydrate Appropriate Diet: http://www.cliffharvey.com/books.html Holistic Performance Academy: https://holisticperformance.ac.nz Caloric restriction alters lipid metabolism to contribute to tumor growth inhibition: https://doi.org/10.1101/2020.03.09.984302 Click below to download transcript: The post RFR 279: The Latest in Keto Cancer Research with Cliff Harvey, PhD appeared first on The Wellness Couch.

RFR 274: The Latest in Keto Research with Cliff Harvey

Health, Happiness & Human Kind

In episode 274 of The Real Food Reel we are joined by Cliff Harvey, researcher and educator, to discuss the latest in keto research. Cliff and I explore two specific publications, “Medium chain triglyceride supplementation increases postprandial ketone bodies in a dose dependent manner” and “WHO draft guidelines on dietary saturated and trans fatty acids: time for a new approach?”. You will learn everything from MCT dosage and how this is being studied to reverse the impacts of Alzheimer’s Disease, how the brain can thrive on an alternative fuel to glucose and how when we look at the true effect of saturated fat on all-cause mortality outcomes, there is no data, yet our Australian guidelines are still not reflecting this.   Cliff Harvey online: http://www.cliffharvey.com The Carbohydrate Appropriate Diet: http://www.cliffharvey.com/books.html Holistic Performance Academy: https://holisticperformance.ac.nz Medium chain triglyceride supplementation increases postprandial ketone bodies in a dose dependent manner: https://researchers.mq.edu.au/en/publications/medium-chain-triglyceride-supplementation-increases-postprandial-?fbclid=IwAR1kAsAXZ07WVvyhG-HZbLJcQ_FgsZyOR_mneAlGRrWanSz0s4cgGyzHuTI WHO draft guidelines on dietary saturated and trans fatty acids: time for a new approach?:  https://doi.org/10.1136/bmj.l4137 Click below to download transcript: The post RFR 274: The Latest in Keto Research with Cliff Harvey appeared first on The Wellness Couch.
