Ben Davies: Meet the ultra runner whose mantra is ’it’s good to talk’
Ben Davies started running three years ago after his young niece sadly passed away. When his wife started a fundraising challenge for Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital, he supported her - but he didn't really like the running! Struggling with his mental health, he suddenly stumbled across ultra running - and without stopping along with the way to tick off all the distances in-between he started clocking up big numbers and competing in ultras. Recently he finished the 145 mile Grand Union Canal Ultra, and he's not aiming to stop there. But for Ben running is also about mental health and talking. Having suffered with his weight as a child and at the hands of an abusive father, he found running long distances - and the life-changing friendships that he found along the way - reframed how he looked at life. ---------------------------------- You can read Ben's blog here: https://bearrunsblog.wixsite.com/bear-the-stampede If you like this episode please consider donating to help us keep going: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/stepforward The music in this podcast is: "Fearless First" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
Psychologist Ben Davies talks with Stevie about the chimp model developed my Professor Steve Peters. Ben has worked with premier league footballers and PGA tour number 1’s to get them to their optimal performance. They both talk about the key of managing the chimp which can cause a lot of havoc in personal and professional lives if not identified and managed properly. This podcast is a huge eye opener for why certain relationships might not be working in your life and for why you struggle to manage your emotions. It all comes down to understanding and managing the chimp mind.
Having worked as a buyer with Sainsburys and the Coop Ben Davies had seen too many products launch into supermarkets and fail to meet expectations, often with costly consequences.Realising that technology provided the opportunity to build a platform that could help rapidly inform retailers and brands he set about creating Vypr - an intelligence platform that captures responses from the public at scale. These two old mates join us for a "robust discussion" on the role of prostate MRI in the early detection of prostate cancer! Dr Ben Davies, Professor of Urology, University of Pittsburgh, and Dr Matt Cooperberg, Urologic Oncologist at the University of California, San Francisco, certainly have differing views on the value of MRI in the early detection of prostate cancer. This was most evident on twitter after Matt et al (Andrew Vickers and Sigrid Carlsson), penned a piece in European Urology recently which was pretty negative about MRI. No holds barred here as Ben has a crack at Matt's enthusiasm for genomic testing, and his scepticism about MRI. Plus some observations about disclosures.... got to tune in!!! A classic. Plus we're now posting some GU Cast episodes on Youtube. See links below. This was a particularly good one to watch!!!
