Sometimes Talkhouse Podcast participants have never met, sometimes they’re acquainted, and on rare occasions, they know each other really well. For this week’s chat, it became clear pretty quickly that Sasha Spielberg—a.k.a. Buzzy Lee—and Alana Haim already spoke the same language. As it turns out, and you’ll hear this in the conversation, they’re close enough to share a Hulu account. The occasion for this conversation is the debut full-length from Buzzy Lee, the excellent Spoiled Love, which is out this week. And of course, it’s not too late to enjoy the latest album from HAIM, Women In Music Pt. III, which came out last year. The two old friends talk about young love, bat mitzvahs, “cozy boys,” and songwriting. It’s charming as hell.
Hanna and Skylar talk to Sasha Spielberg about growing up in a strict household, giving a drug dealer hand jobs and desperately wanting to be people we aren't. Sasha's album 'Spoiled Love' drops January 29.
Musician Sasha Spielberg, aka Buzzy Lee, and Gaea Woods discuss: Our actual nightmares from the night before. We brainstorm ideas with a live caller about his roommate’s cat. Sasha tells us about: her new EP for her pop project, Buzzy Lee; her masterful Australian accent, and an emergency trip to the vet with her dog Earl. Opening lines from online dating messages. A husband is upset about his wife getting propositioned for sex. Vacations in new relationships. Dating app etiquette. Nervousness on dates. What's too much fighting. Dating and finances. Withholding versus lying.
Episode 36: Let it Play/Let’s Switch with Sasha Spielberg
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Upon my return, I sat down with the lovely Sasha Spielberg…a marvelous musician, writer extraordinaire and all-around goof. We chat about her band Wardell and their west coast tour with Ryan Adams, what it’s like to pioneer a new media format with Literally Can’t Even on Snapchat, and why our generation might forget to procreate. Check out Wardell on Soundcloud and on iTunes here!
Singer/songwriter Sasha Spielberg stopped by the YTA "studio" to talk about life both as Sister from the band Brother/Sister and as a real sister. We learned how being born laid the groundwork for the band's formation, discussed the relative hardships (and perks) of having a cool/band-playing/older brother, and revealed her secret (no longer) love for silly campy musical tracks. She told us how Brother/Sister's tracks are "the music that would be made by two people who grew up sharing a wall" (tried her best not to misquote you, Theo) and why singing teachers don't always know best.Check out Brother/Sister's Facebook page (you'll like it so "like" it) and download their single "Opposum" off of their EP Accidental Zoo (it's free!). Also, heads up for concerts coming your way if you're lucky enough to be in LA or New York in the near future (another point for LA).An appropriately hip album cover for a hip duo. Her wonderful singing voice is only matched by her wonderful personality, so do yourselves a favor and catch up with the totally awesome Sasha Spielberg!
