Renewing Australia with a Green New Deal with Adam Bandt

Follow The Money

Featuring Greens Leader Adam Bandt in conversation with chief economist Richard Denniss about what a Green New Deal means and how it would work. The audio was recorded live on May 27 2020 as part of the Australia Institute's 'Economics of a Pandemic' webinar series. The government has been talking as if it understood Keynesian economics, but its reaction to the $60 billion JobKeeper black hole shows they clearly do not think or act like Keynesians. Richard Denniss unpacks the spectacular failure of policy and accountability, as well as explaining what Keynesians economics actually means.Visit tai.org.au for our latest pandemic economic research and analysis // @theausinstituteHost: Ebony Bennett, deputy director of the Australia Institute // @ebony_bennettGuests: Adam Bandt, Greens Leader // @AdamBandtRichard Denniss, chief economist of the Australia Institute // @RDNS_TAIProducer: Jennifer Macey. Adam Bandt on Greens' hopes for future power sharing

Politics with Michelle Grattan

Adam Bandt began his political journey in the Labor party, but the issue of climate change drew him to the Greens. Last week he became their leader, elected unopposed. Asked about his ambitions for the party, Bandt aspires to a power-sharing situation with a Labor government, akin to the Gillard era. "Ultimately Labor's got to decide where it stands, and if Labor decides that it does want to go down the path of working with us on a plan to phase out coal and look after workers in communities, then great. "If Labor prefers to work with the Liberals, maybe we're going to see a situation like we do in Germany at the moment where there's a grand coalition between the equivalent of the Labor and Liberal parties because they find that they've got more in common with each other than with us." #climatepodcase | Like I'm A Six-Year-Old — 162 - Adam Bandt Returns (LIVE)

This episode is a part of the first annual Climate Podcast Showcase, for more information on this visit www.climactic.fm/climatepodcase, and for more information on this show please visit Tom Ballard's Like I'm A Six-Year-Old. After joining me at the end of the shitshow that was 2016 for the first live edition of the podcast, Greens MP Adam Bandt returned to reflect on how far we have (or haven't) come and what to make of the political year that was 2019. Recorded in Collingwood at the Easey Street Concert Hall in front of a bloody lovely crowd, this is a funny and important conversation about Scott Morrison, socialism, the climate crisis, the 2019 election, the ALP's pathetic position on coal and the possibilities of a Green New Deal for Australia. All funds raised went to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (you can support them here toooooo). I'm very thankful to Adam for agreeing to do this again and to everyone who came out to the show.
