On today’s episode, I’m talking with Dana Lis, a sport nutritionist.Dr. Lis is a registered dietitian (RD), who also has her PhD in Exercise Science, and an International Olympic Committee Diploma in Sport Nutrition. For someone who initially thought she wanted to be a mountain guide, and still spends plenty of time on the mountain, Dana has built an incredible career in sport nutrition. Exercise-associated physiological disturbances alter gastrointestinal function and integrity. These alterations may increase susceptibility to dietary triggers, namely gluten and a family of short-chain carbohydrates known as FODMAPs (fermentable oligo-, di-, monosaccharides and polyols). Today, Dr. Dana Lis talks us through how foods rich in these elements can trigger this symptoms and how to avoid them.

This episode features Dana Lis who is a very talented high-performance sports dietitian, and in this role, she’s had the honor of working with many of Canada’s top athletes and sports scientists. She’s also worked nationally and internationally with many professional athletes including her current work as a consultant with the Sacramento Kings and the Golden State Warriors of the NBA. As a graduate of the renowned IOC diploma in sports nutrition, she has expanded her focus from practical work in the field with athletes to achieving her doctorate from the University of Tasmania and Post-Doctoral research at UC Davis in California. With one foot in research and the other in the field with athletes, Dana continues to strive towards evidence-influenced sports nutrition and its direct translation to athletic performance. She does all of this while managing her role as a mom to her little boy Myles, and her love and connection with the great outdoors.
