Anthony Magnabosco, co founder and Executive Director of the nonprofit organization Street Epistemology International, join Bob and Julia to discuss the benefits that come with learning and practicing the technique.

Interview Nugs

Today’s episode is our first interview outside of the typical musician/recording artist. This was a big first because I am a huge fan of street epistemology. SE has helped me strengthen relationships in my life by giving me a different approach when faced with a disagreement. Are you tired of arguing? Do you feel like conversations turn into debates? Have any of these disagreements hurt or maybe ever cut your relationships? Do you have a skeptical mind and want to organize how you go about questioning things in a polite non combative way? Then check out Anthony Magnabosco and the whole Street Epistemology movement. But only after you watch my interview. We talk about original superpowers and how they might come with a caveat, children tormenting children at grandmas, and how money can help with fear.

Ep 441: Feedback | Anthony Magnabosco | Creationist Teaches Our Kids (1) (Preparation)

The Street Epistemology Podcast

Summary: A retired dad now anthropology student shares his efforts to reach his well-intentioned wife who is homeschooling their kids using Young Earth Creationist curricula.Watch video here: https://youtu.be/NMBiD1eCPGYI have the utmost respect for both this man and his wife. Should she ever one day stumble across this video series, I hope she does not feel that she was blindsided, that we were making fun of her, or anything disrespectful like that. In my view, the value of these interactions was far to valuable and warranted pushing the envelope by sharing this discussion. I hope they both feel the same way. Ep 440: Dialogue | Anthony Magnabosco | Apollos (3) | Boundaries (Tenacious Apologist Returns)

The Street Epistemology Podcast

Summary: My tenacious interlocutor returns to discuss his lively Street Epistemology Discord server engagements that occurred in the interim. I do some more "messaging" than normal in this one, likely in response to them asking me questions.te·na·cious/təˈnāSHəs/adjective1. tending to keep a firm hold of something; clinging or adhering closely.2. not readily relinquishing a position, principle, or course of action; determined.3. persisting in existence; not easily dispelled.Watch video of talk here: https://youtu.be/HQWeRF0OBG4Note: I found in interesting how "importance" of the claim was being viewed differently by both parties here. The students seem to be using it as "needed" while I seem to be viewing it as "fantastic." If only I had asked something like, "Are you saying that, the more necessary a claim is to a person, the more likely the attestations of others from a long time ago are true?", or something to that effect. IL2 at one point asks, "What happens to me?," as if that should be a factor in assessing the truth of a claim. I was later reminded about a discussion I had about differences in adjective meanings, like we might see with a word like "important" or "extraordinary". In their view, it seems, if a claim is "important" to them personally (like "Jesus rose from the dead," it's less likely someone would lie or be mistaken about the claim, and therefore you can accept what they stated as true to a high degree of confidence. Whereas from my perspective (and perhaps others who might be more skeptically-minded) we see "importance" as a biasing factor to control for; the more important or impactful one might find a claim to them personally is a reason to apply more—not less—scrutiny to the supporting reasons. Check out Pinecreek on YouTube and his more advanced "Flying Man" ( https://youtu.be/2ZNiCpeF_Jg?t=4789 ) example, which is further along than I was here with my off-the-cuff car metaphor in 2019. I'd like to see this idea of how we might be using adjectives differently explored further in future SE discussions.Location: San Antonio, TexasRecorded: 25 November 2019Released: 27 May 2021Anthony's Social Media: https://linktr.ee/magnaboscoStreet Epistemology Resources: https://tinyurl.com/abm-se-resourcesStreet Epistemology Communities: https://tinyurl.com/abm-se-communityStreet Epistemology Discord Server: https://discord.gg/sKap3zM (recommended)Street Epistemology Survey: https://se-survey.web.app/enSkip ahead to a desired point in the talk:--Intro: 00:01Carolina: 00:16Best Entrance Ever: 00:44Interruption: 01:05Start: 03:07Opting Out: 03:32Staying Cool?: 07:44Faith: 08:07Testing: 12:49Peace Out: 14:28Elon's Tesla: 18:14What Happens to Me?: 20:36Handshakes: 24:40Have a Blessed Day: 24:55, 26:30Equipment Change: 25:09Closing Thoughts: 25:47Consent: 26:58Get Right Back in There: 27:39End Screen: 27:42Bonus Footage: 28:05--Note: Add 35 seconds to these timestamps if listening to the podcast version of this talk.Audio correction provided by Philipp Grzemba.Intro Music '19th Floor' by Bobby Richards, provided by YouTube.Audio Clip: 'Say Good Night' by Joakim Karud, Unported— CC BY-SA 3.0Music provided by Jim Rhodes, with Dan Harris on lap steel.Links to References in Video:IL1's YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuhe7b8v1lgHQCppxEEI_uwWatch 1st talk w/IL1: https://youtu.be/DBBW-ZUjKEMWatch 2nd talk w/IL1: https://youtu.be/w3bu-yc8sRIWatch 3rd talk w/IL1: https://youtu.be/HQWeRF0OBG4Watch more faith talk: https://youtu.be/hxDD3sajaxw (How Faith Ends)Watch talk w/Jenna (ACA Host): https://youtu.be/S_0JhCv1mTsMistakes: Please let me know if you spot any.Recorded w/Go-Pro. 038: Anthony Magnabosco and "Learning Street Epistemology for Better Conversation"

theEWpodcast

In today’s episode, I speak with Anthony Magnabosco. Anthony is a skeptic and atheist from San Antonio, Texas who has been practicing and promoting Street Epistemology since 2013. Anthony has had several hundred chats (many of them on camera and uploaded to his YouTube channel) on a variety of claims including Gods, ghosts, karma, law of attraction, and a variety of social and political topics. He is also a Founder and the current Executive Director of the new nonprofit organization called Street Epistemology International. Anthony has given dozens of talks and workshops on Street Epistemology at conferences and events domestically and internationally. We spend our time in this episode discussing Street Epistemology, which is essentially a form of dialogue that involves asking questions to better understand the foundations on which a belief is built. It’s all about better understanding a person’s belief. This is contrast to a debate, where each person presents an argument to support their point. In this conversation, we discuss what SE is, some basic tips for using it properly and the ethics of the approach. We talk about doubt and ask whether it should be avoided or embraced, the difficulties people face in having conversations today and much more. **This episode was recorded on January 23, 2021**ANTHONY MAGNABOSCOYouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCocP40a_UvRkUAPLD5ezLIQTwitter: https://twitter.com/magnaboscoOTHER RESOURCEShttps://streetepistemology.comSE Discord: https://discord.gg/sKap3zMSE Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/StreetEpistemology/SE Playlist: https://tinyurl.com/SELatestReleasesInterview on UnityNow! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FKFxtcxu3A&t=1202s“Gender is Binary” talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbNlZEKkBRc&t=309s“A Manual for Creating Atheists” by Peter Boghossian: https://amzn.to/3sc7DF1“How to Have Impossible Conversations: A Very Practical Guide” by Peter Boghossian and James Lindsay: https://amzn.to/3dr9TUStheEWpodcasthttp://ericwhte.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/ericwhteInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/eric.whte/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCw27qaF6r_XdQrzREV21QSANewsletter: http://ericwhte.com/newsletter/TIMESTAMPS00:00 Welcome2:55 Introducing Anthony Magnabosco and Street Epistemology8:12 Gender Is Binary12:00 The benefits of seeing SE in action on video18:11 Can SE be a back and forth?24:21 Has Anthony revised his beliefs as a result of an SE conversation?28:09 Why did Anthony start filming his interactions?33:52 How can people self-evaluate their progress without recording it?44:46 Preconceived notions about your interlocutor 47:32 Staying calm in potentially heated conversations50:37 Dealing with trigger points56:35 How to s
