This year’s draft is said to be quite deep with many talented hockey players and the Leafs have 3 picks. We will highlight a few players that the Leafs could be looking at to add to and improve the organization’s prospect pool. When it comes to prospects who are currently a part of the organization, Kyle Dubas said he hopes to see the progression of players from the Marlies pushing for jobs at Leafs training camp in September. We discuss a few Marlies who should get the opportunity to make the club next season. For our Third Period segment we are excited to have a special guest join us on the show! E59 - Fletcher, Conservative at the Trade Deadline (Ft. Russ Cohen & Mike Augello)
Gettin Gritty Wit It
Created By: Yariv WolokMusic By: Jay LubesWebsite: https://www.flyersnittygritty.com]The NHL trade deadline has come and gone. Just like Flyers Nitty Gritty has been saying for some time, that no big blockbusters coming and not going to be made during the season. Unfortunately, with the Flyers recent play and combination of a looming expansion draft, has left Chuck Fletcher with his hands mostly tied for the moment. However, the Flyers did take the opportunity to unload a couple of expiring contracts by trading away Michael Raffl for a 5th round pick and Erik Gustafsson for a 7th round pick. Ultimately, these moves were made because the Flyers do not see themselves as Stanley Cup contenders. However, they are still good enough to compete for a playoff spot and a statement needs to be made heading into next season. Fletcher has already given the coaching staff a vote of confidence, stating publicly that they will return safely to start next season. Additionally, long time Flyers forward, Scott Laughton, was resigned to a 5 year deal that will see him play out the majority of his career in the orange and black. Clearly Chuck Fletcher is already planning for the 2021-2022 season. While the trade deadline was exciting for a lot of teams, the Flyers unfortunately, need to be patient and wait to pounce when the moment is right. After expansion, there should be plenty of changes to satisfy most fans. Having said that, even without any changes, expect the next season to be improved and for the problems to be different than the ones face today. On this episode of Getting Gritty Wit It, I welcome back guests, Russ Cohen and Mike Augello from Hockeybuzz.com, to the show to talk about the Flyers' latest loss to the Sabers, the NHL Trade Deadline, and the potential moves the Flyers can make in the offseason. Things might seem out of wack right now, but it's always important to play the long game.Like and subscribe if you want more of this content!Check Out Our Team Store: https://teespring.com/stores/flyers-nitty-gritty-store-4
E55 - Trade Talks & The Push To Get Better (Ft. Russ Cohen & Mike Augello)
Gettin Gritty Wit It
Created By: Yariv WolokMusic By: Jay LubesWebsite: https://www.flyersnittygritty.comAs the Flyers look from outside the playoff picture for the first time all seasons, it's easy to understand why fans have become restless. Even with the recent win to the New York Rangers, the team can't help but look like they have not lived up to their high praise. As the team fell to fifth place in the division, all momentum and good faith that had been built up since Alain Vigneault arrived, seemed to have dissipated within just a short few months. With such a change in emotion it's easy to get caught up in quick solutions and fixes. The Flyers have been without savvy veteran Matt Niskanen all season, since he announced his early retirement, and it's noticeable to everyone. While the team has plenty of talent to compete, it's the poise on the back-end that is much needed on this team. The inability to hold leads, the persistent lack of physicality around the net, and the sudden decrease in team penalty kill effectiveness are all signs of a team lacking stability. Essentially, Niskanen has left a void on the team. However, is rushing to fix the problem really going to help in the long run? On this episode of Gettin Gritty Wit It, I welcome back guest Russ Cohen (@Sportsology) and welcome new guest Mike Augello (@MikeInBuffalo) to the show to talk about the recent Flyers' trade rumors and their chances of competing in the competitive East division.Like and subscribe if you want more of this content!Check Out Our Team Store: https://teespring.com/stores/flyers-nitty-gritty-store-4
