Sister Rosetta Tharpe- Episode 69

The Big Beat- Online Radio Show with DJ Kingblind

DJ Kingblind presents The Big Beat online radio show- This week we talk about & play the best music in a themed Podcast called "This is Sister Rosetta Tharpe" Rock 'n' roll was bred between the church and the nightclubs in the soul of a queer black woman in the 1940s named Sister Rosetta Tharpe. She was there before Elvis, Little Richard and Johnny Cash swiveled their hips and strummed their guitars. It was Tharpe, the godmother of rock 'n' roll, who turned this burgeoning musical style into an international sensation.#podcastsonamazonmusic #podcast #music #glam #godmother #rock #djkingblind #applepodcasts #googlepodcasts  #singer  #dj  #musician  #south  #arkansas   #gibson  #lespaul  #s  #suicidegirls  #sgi  #rockandroll  #classicrock  #gospel  #bible  #christ  #jesusfreak  #jesus  #christian  #rocknroll  #sisterrosettatharpe  #love  #beauty  #biel  #clothes  #fan  #fanclub  #kobieta  #kobitką  #landscape  #ola  #olanowakkrakow  #olenka  #painting  #photograph  #photography Find all links for DJ Kingblind here: https://linktr.ee/kingblind

Kyle Meredith With...

Yola sits down with Kyle Meredith to talk about Stand for Myself, a record that finds the English musician in a "genre fluid" mood as she tries out several new sounds. Along with the musical diversity, she also discusses the divide-and-conquer politics that appears in some of the songs; her base in poetry; and working and living with friends Aaron Lee Tasjan, Allison Russell, and Amythyst Kiah. Yola will also be playing Sister Rosetta Tharpe in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis Presley biopic, and we get to hear all about the part as well as Tharpe and queer women’s role in creating rock & roll.--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Rock N Roll Librarian: Shout, Sister, Shout! - The Untold Story of Rock-and-Roll Trailblazer Sister Rosetta Tharpe

Pantheon - Home of Music Podcasts

Praise the Lord! Shelley and Christian discuss the “Godmother of Rock and Roll”, whose obscure tale is told in the book Shout, Sister, Shout! The Untold Story of Rock-and-Roll Trailblazer Sister Rosetta Tharpe by Gayle F. Wald, 2007. Brought up in the Pentecostal church where congregants celebrated God with lively, joyful, rhythmic music using voice, trumpets, tambourines, pianos, organs, and guitars, Sister Rosetta brought rhythm and swing, her powerful voice, her charisma and her own brand of guitar playing out into the world. This Black woman’s achievements on the electric guitar have been minimized, but her distinctive fills and thrilling solos were revolutionary and influenced the likes of Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and a host of British blues aficionados like Keith Richards and Eric Clapton. Join us to experience the story and music of Sister Rosetta, who was finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts Learn more about your ad choices. 12 – Sister Rosetta Tharpe

Second Bananas

Chuck Berry once said that his entire career was “one long Sister Rosetta Tharpe impersonation.” Elvis Presley blatantly copied her dance moves & style. She gave Little Richard his first-ever gig & shared the stage with him. She was a black queer woman who wasn't allowed to patronize the very concert halls she regularly sold out. Despite this, she was nearly forgotten by the mainstream rock press until recently, and finally inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
