WISE - Women Introverts, Sensitives, & Empaths

In this episode, Ashley is joined by Tim (aka Tinier Tim) Bauer, motivational speaker & writer. Tim's story is remarkable: he lost 225 pounds (he says he lost 1 pound 225 times, which I love) over 6 years ago and has kept it off since.

Ashley resonates deeply with his story because he attributes his success to the major mindset shifts he has made throughout his journey. This is aligned with the message she's so passionate about spreading: that any change begins in the mind, and it must be made on a level deeper than just the body in order for it to be sustainable.

There is a huge opportunity we all have to change our lives, and we must be courageous enough to look at all aspects of ourselves in order to fully heal and reach our true potential.

We cover:

- Tim's story
- Mindset shifts for weight loss
- Tim's food philosophy
- Tim's thoughts on intuitive eating & body positivity
- Movement practices
- Male body image

When one grows up in a family that includes a brother who became a priest, a sister who became a nun, and another brother who had a career as a stand-up comic, you know one is going to have a unique perspective on life. This perspective enabled Tim Bauer to have a career in the collections industry that is wide and deep.

So how did Tim get into the collections industry?  As a fresh attorney just out of law school and joining a full-service law firm, his initial assignment was in collections.  From that first day, he never left the industry. Being a collections attorney provided Tim with the foundation to understand the industry. This foundation enabled him to be successful in all facets of the industry that included: operations, human resources, compliance, business development and M&A. Today, he has taken this breadth of experience and is the President of InsideARM, in which his ideas and writings are having an influence on the total industry.

Here is a glimpse of what Tim shared in the interview.
“Nobody goes to law school and says, “I can’t wait to get out and be a collection lawyer.”

“ It’s hard to argue against consumer protection. And quite frankly, those of us in the ARM industry, we would love to see some more regulation on the FDCPA. It’s a statute from 1977, completely outdated, doesn’t address issues of how consumers want to be contacted today”

72: "Tinier" Tim Bauer - On How He Lost 250 lbs and Got His Life Back

Breaking Ordinary with Andy Petranek
Episode artwork
Read more

Imagine you’re a motivational speaker for a living (I know… it’s a stretch for me too), and you’re asked to give a talk to a bunch of college students about unhealthy addictions - one of which is over-eating.  Now imagine that you weigh over 450 lbs, have a 58 inch waist and wear size XXXXXL clothing.  See the problem?

This was the exact scenario that my guest this week faced… that moment was his rock bottom.  It was also the point from which his life really began. Meet “Tinier” Tim Bauer. He is a fraction of the man he used to be, literally, having lost almost 250 lbs since that moment just a few years ago. Tim is on a crusade to change the world. To tell his story, with complete transparency, in an effort to inspire others take charge of their life through action. During the podcast, I asked Tim all sorts of questions, for example, what is it like to sit down in coach on an airplane weighing 450 lbs, knowing exactly what that would mean for others seated around him. Tim is completely honest, sharing both what he showed on the outside during these impressionable moments, to what was really going on on the inside - the hurt, pain, fear and suffering. Tim’s transformation, and subsequent willingness to share it with the world is a miracle. His story will affect and inspire you no matter your personal history… because it’s the same story for all of us on some level. We all have our issues, some obvious and on the outside, and some invisible to the eyes of others and on the inside. It’s human to be afraid, to have been hurt, to be struggling, unsure, to judge, lash out, and get angry; just as it’s human to use things that feel good to help us avoid dealing with our issues - alcohol, drugs, food, sugar, shopping, gambling, sex, etc. That’s why when one man does it, steps out of the crowd, has the courage to walk in the opposite direction to the extent that Tim Bauer has, it touches us all. This is an incredibly powerful podcast… buckle up, get out a box of tissues… you’re not going to want to miss a word.

TYE 006: How To Make Amazing Transformations with Tim Bauer

The YES Effect
Episode artwork
Read more

Now a transformational catalyst for the masses, Tim Bauer was not always an example of inspiration and hope. Like all great stories, Tim's journey started at the lowest point in his life. Tipping the scales at over 450 lbs, he was slowly killing himself one meal at a time. At his lowest point, he decided that he was going to find the source of his pain and change his life once and for all. He not only went on to lose "1lb 225 times" as he says, but more importantly was able to find happiness and health and now teaches others how to change their lives as well.
