FaceCulture: Giving You The People Behind The Music

This very intimate interview with Charles Bradley was one of the first that I edited when I started working for FaceCulture back in 2013. My colleague Martin Kuiper did the interview, and I was blown away by how raw and real this interview was as they chronicled through the immensely difficult and tragic life Charles had lived, from being homeless as a teenager to being wrongfully put in jail, to the present where he was living his dream of bringing people joy with his music. I had the good fortune to meet and interview Charles myself a couple of years later, and for a man who had every right to be bitter about the cards he was dealt in life, he seemed like one of the most genuinely warm and loving people I have ever met. By: Robin HignellSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/FaceCulture)

Soul Singer Charles Bradley (From the Archives)

The late funk and R&B singer Charles Bradley’s life story was one filled with poverty, struggle and unappreciated talent. But after catching the eye of a Daptone Records agent (while doing a James Brown routine in a Bushwick club) Charles Bradley put out several singles and several full-length releases on Daptone. His debut record was called No Time For Dreaming, and the soulful singer was in-studio to sing some of it live, back in 2011.

Episode 26: Charles Bradley

Every Album Ever w/ Mike Mansour & Alex Volz

On this episode, Mike and Alex talk about the most beautiful black rose, Charles Bradley. This former James Brown impersonator went through it all before achieving success in his early 60s. After 3 brilliant albums, Bradley tragically died of cancer in 2017, but a 4th album was released posthumously. The man was absolutely spectacular and we’ll never get another one like him. We’re all a victim of loving you, Bradley. Unless you haven’t heard him. In which case listen now for the love of God.Closing track: “Lovin’ You, Baby” from No Time for Dreaming (2011)Check out our episode playlists on Spotify! https://open.spotify.com/user/motherpuncherincMike’s Picks:No Time for Dreaming (2011) — Best Album, Personal FavoriteBlack Velvet (2018) — Worst AlbumAlex’s Picks:Changes (2016) — Best AlbumNo Time for Dreaming (2011) — Personal FavoriteBlack Velvet (2018) — Worst AlbumAlbums we discussed this episode…No Time for Dreaming (2011) Victim of Love (2013)Changes (2016)Black Velvet (2018)Follow Mike on Instagram @popejesseventura and Alex @motherpuncher
