A chat about life, death and booze with Brian O'Connell
Des Bishop Podcast
On today's episode I sat down with my good friend Brian O'Connell. You may know him as a regular contributor to RTE Radio one and also as the author of "Wasted" and more recently "The personals." We chatted in Cork literally steps from UCC where we were classmates together in the 90s. We had a very deep conversation that began with chatting about how he found the personal ads in newspapers as a doorway into people's lives. It was also a doorway into a very personal discussion for us about mortality as he had just come from recording in Marymount Hospice. He then opened up about his own grief and guilt around his friend's suicide. We finished the discussion chatting about our lives without booze and checking in on all that so many years since we both decided to stop. I always have great conversations with Brian and I am delighted to be able to share one with you guys. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
