Julia Jacklin
Out of the Box
On this episode of Out of the Box, we dive into the songs and stories that have defined the life of Julia Jacklin. This is an artist who’s been honing their craft their entire life - taking classical singing lessons growing up, performing at open mics, forming various bands, and then finally starting the Julia Jacklin project. You might know her through her albums ‘Don’t Let the Kids Win’ or ‘Crushing’, or the album she released last year - her starkly intimate, and completely universal third LP 'PRE-PLEASURE'. It’s such a beautiful record, and it sees Julia quietly reflect on a lot of defining moments and people in her life. In this interview, we do the same - walking through her story from childhood to now, and stopping to visit the songs that soundtracked the big moments. This episode was produced by Tanya Ali and researched by Mary Ventura.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Julia Jacklin's changes
Take 5
This Take 5 is something of a reunion. It’s been six years since Julia Jacklin first joined me and picked the music. Since then, she’s released two more brilliant albums, made a name for herself across the world, and shared her stories in every way. Julia has always had a knack for knocking us out with her incredibly personal songs. And in giving so much of her own experiences in her art, we’ve been witness to the many changes she’s experienced as she’s grown up.Change is a constant in all of our lives; it’s the one thing we can be absolutely certain of. So for her Take 5 I asked Julia to pick five songs of change. And man, she embraced the theme, and then some. From Fiona Apple to Leonard Cohen to Love, this is a beautiful, honest, and enlightening conversation. You won’t hear her music in the same way, again.Miriam Makeba – Willow Song Fiona Apple – Not About Love Edith Piaf – Milord Leonard Cohen – MemoriesLove – Alone Again Or

Julia Jacklin [Performance & Interview Only]
Live on KEXP
On the show this time, it’s the minimalist-no-rubbish storytelling of singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin. The Aussie songwriter Julia Jacklin composes thoughtful lyrics and spacious arrangements, which in combination with her fresh harmonic choices make for a rewarding listening experience. Her latest album Pre-Pleasure is named for the state we all exist in - the moment right before a mythical state - where we have arrived, we have done the work, and we can now live in the state of “pleasure.” Problem is - that kind of work is never done, so we remain in this state - pre-pleasure, in perpetuity. This episode features 3 songs from the new record, one from a Sub Pop Singles Club release, and a bonus from her 2019 in-studio, the epic “Don’t Know How to Keep Loving You” from the album “Crushing.” Both are available from the Polyvinyl Record Company.
