We dove into some great topics during our conversation including: skipping breakfast, getting a good night's sleep, and anti-aging strategies. In summary, Dr. Charlop explained why doctors skip breakfast even before an 8 hour shift with surgery, how this allows the body to go into autophagy, and how autophagy is beneficial in destroying damaged cells and removing waste. Ideally, we should fast 16-18 hours the night before until your next meal. While doing this, we can drink non-calorie liquids, so mix it up and make it exciting. Improper food immediately shuts down repair and healing, and sugary foods for breakfast is killing us. We discussed that 7-8 hours of sleep is recommended, while teens and children require even more. One night of sleep deprivation can cause toxic waste in your spinal fluid. There are great foods to eat and avoid before bed for a great night’s sleep, learn those. Eating less protein as we age may be a hidden secret to anti-aging. We tend to need less protein and calories as we age. Actually, increased levels of protein may be detrimental to our aging process. These anti-aging strategies will increase everyone's longevity and can reduce the risk and effects from COVID-19 or any future virus. It’s imperative to learn to apply these strategies discussed in this interview now before you are in a crisis.
