Initiating No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu for the Next Generation of Grapplers With Chris Brennan
The Sonny Brown Breakdown
I talk to Chris Brennan, the O.G of No-Gi. Chris is an MMA Hall of Famer and 3-time No-Gi world champion, but perhaps might not be as well known for starting the first No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu school in America back in 1998 after leaving the Gracie Academy. We discuss what the Gracie Academy and the change to No-Gi were like and how he learned to train his students while competing in MMA. We also discuss how he has taken those lessons and passed them on to his sons with their MMA & grappling careers.
Chris Brennan joins the show to tell his powerful story of overcoming addiction and street life to become an American pioneer in MMA. He talks about the very early days of MMA in the US and fighting in Brazil and Japan. He also gives insight on the Kimura

Aliza Kelly sits down with astrologer Chris Brennan, host of The Astrology Podcast and author of Hellenistic Astrology: The Study of Fate and Fortune. In this episode, Aliza asks Chris questions about his background (spoiler: he started studying at 14) and how he found his way to the ancient practice of Hellenistic Astrology. Chris explains how the rigorous translational projects that began in the early 1990s paved the way for a greater understanding of ancient astrological practices that had been lost for thousands of years and why, in the year 2020, younger generations of astrologers are resonating with these esoteric texts. Then, Aliza and Chris dive into the contentious Placidus v. Whole Sign debate—using Aliza's personal birth chart, no less!—and discuss implications of major planetary conjunctions. #023 | Get Comfortable with being Uncomfortable | Chris Brennan
Getting NAKED with HAPPINESS
"Within us is a person who can endure so much more than we currently can. By endlessly striving for comfort, all we’re doing is turning ourselves into a most feeble version of a human being. And then of course people are struggling. They start becoming scared of everything." Our next episode with Chris Brennan is all about STRENGTH. Chris started "from the bottom of the UK rat race" in his 30s, and a few years later ended up in tangled in stress, debt, and marital problems. Today he is the founder of his own successful low-carbon footprint building company, and a passionate wellbeing advocate. How did he go from crisis to purpose? "I had to work a lot", he explained. But what were his psychological ingredients and daily habits to keep himself strong and focused? And why does he plunge himself into freezing water every day?
