Romy Mayer is currently an engineer for Triple Eight Race Engineering, and will be the race engineer for the Supercheap Wildcard of Craig Lowndes and Declan Fraser at the 2022 Repco Bathurst 1000. She joins the girls for a chat about her motorsport background, how she juggles being a mum but also working in a demanding industry, and what we can do to help make the sport a more welcoming place for women.

Buckle up and strap yourselves in as we bring you another episode straight from the fast lane as we speak to Romy Mayer, a race engineer from Triple 8 Race Engineering, and also co-founder of Future Females Gold Coast. Originating from Germany, the home of companies such as Mercedes, Porsche and BMW, there she really put her career ‘into-gear’ with her thesis with Mercedes Benz, carrying out a particular focus on 8-cylinder AMG engines. Eventually graduating from the University of Applied Sciences in Esslingen, Germany, there she really made her first move into ‘the fast lane’ with her first ever racing series, the DTM series. She kept the ball rolling, or should we say ‘wheels rolling’ with her move to Australia, where in her first year with Triple Eight Race Engineering she secured 2nd place in the Dunlop Super 2 Championship, but it doesn't stop there, Romy has also gone on to secure 5 more podiums and 1 win in the competitive GT Asia World Challenge! Parallel to her work she is the Head of Operations and Technology for the electric vehicle startup, Whirl, where she conducts regular analysis on the electric vehicle market for Australia, where on the side she is also the co-founder and ambassador for Future Females Gold Coast chapter! Throughout this episode Jacob and Dan attempt to find out what it takes to stay focused in such a time-driven environment and the role that team leadership and communication play in everyday operations. Ep 5 - Staying On Track In The World of Race Engineering – Romy Mayer

Romy Mayer is the only female Race Engineer on her team at Triple Eight Race Engineering. She is also part of the Red Bull Supercar Racing Series, but not only that, she is the lead engineer on an AMG GT3 in a race series in Asia where the driver is the Prince of Malaysia! Romy believes that it is important to have role models to help shape the minds of the next generation where we can and inspire them to believe in themselves. When Romy isn't working under the pressure of long hours and performance delivery testing, she is an Ambassador of the Dare To Be Different (https://www.instagram.com/d2bdofficial/): an initiative that inspires, connects &amp; celebrates girls and women in every aspect of racing. There's more! During the Covid-19 Global Lockdown, Romy became the Future Females Gold Coast Ambassador (https://futurefemales.co/). Romy and I talk about how she went from being a young girl in school who loved Maths &amp; Physics to studying Engineering at University in Germany and then finding her way to the Gold Coast in the land down under.
