The Workplace Sociopath_Credit: Marla Tabaka

The Adam Paradox

The presence of psychopathy in the workplace—although psychopaths typically represent a relatively small percentage of the staff—can do enormous damage when in senior management roles.[1] Psychopaths are usually most common at higher levels of corporate organizations and their actions often cause a ripple effect throughout an organization, setting the tone for an entire corporate culture. Examples of detrimental effects are increased bullying, conflict, stress, staff turnover and absenteeism; reduction in productivity and in social responsibility.[2] Ethical standards of entire organizations can be badly damaged if a corporate psychopath is in charge.[3] A 2017 UK study found that companies with leaders who show "psychopathic characteristics" destroy shareholder value, tending to have poor future returns on equity.[4] Academics refer to psychopaths in the workplace individually variously as workplace psychopaths, executive psychopaths, corporate psychopaths, business psychopaths, successful psychopaths, office psychopaths, white-collar psychopaths, industrial psychopaths, organizational psychopaths or occupational psychopaths.[5] Criminal psychologist Robert D. Hare coined the term "Snakes in Suits" as a synonym for workplace psychopaths.[6] 1 in 25 Americans fit the criteria for sociopathy.  Dr. Hervey Cleckley was the first researcher to name the concept of psychopathy in 1941. https://www.inc.com/marla-tabaka/16-signs-you-re-working-with-a-sociopath-and-how-to-protect-yourself.html In her book The Sociopath Next Door, clinical psychologist and former Harvard faculty member Martha Stout, PhD, provides a great roadmapfor avoiding sociopaths. Episode 19 – Marla Tabaka: Get Out of Your Way

The Ictus Marketing Podcast

Marla has been where you are. Starting and operating your own business can be lonely, especially when things aren't going well. Whether we talk about it or not, there can be a sense of shame in not succeeding in business. We've all been there, and it's not unlikely that we will be there again some time in the future. Marla is targeting that sense of self-judgement and doubt with the business people that she coaches. And now she's created an educational platform to help people get over the barriers that they are creating for themselves. She's become a practitioner of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) as a means of getting people past the emotional and psychological trauma that we carry from our past. I have zero experience with EFT, and Marla does a great job of talking through how the process works. And yes, there is actual, physical tapping involved. If you're interested in getting in on a business education program lead by an experienced and encouraging business coach, contact Marla through the links below and let her know that you want in on the next E-School session.Links to people and things mentioned in the show Marla's Website: MarlaTabaka.com Marla on Twitter: @MarlaTabaka E-School EFT Tapping on Marla's Site EFT Tapping on Wikipedia
