Big Tech Censorship With Special Guests Chris Hedges and Kevin Gosztola
The Official Project Censored Show
Censorship by proxy continues in the US with the latest wave of Big Tech censorship and deplatforming spurred by increased Russiaphobia that lead to the cancellation RT America. This week, Mickey talks with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Chris Hedges about the matter noting how Roku and DirecTV pulled the channel from subscriber services. In addition, Youtube deleted the entire catalog of RT America, which housed his book review program "On Contact," as well as all other programs there, from Lee Camp’s Redacted Tonight to Abby Martin’s Breaking the Set, in effort to suppress dissenting views not found in US corporate media. Mickey and Chris discuss issues with RT, but also the problematic media landscape in the US that drives critical journalists out of our so-called "free press.” Later in the program, journalist Kevin Gosztola returns to review the recent developments in the Julian Assange extradition case and offers additional analysis about Big Tech censorship and how “community standards” are used as an excuse to ban content at places like YouTube with no means of appeal or accountability.Notes:Chris Hedges is a Pulitzer-Prize-winning journalist with a long career as a foreign correspondent in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. His books include War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning, Death of the Liberal Class, and America: The Farewell Tour. Kevin Gosztola is the managing editor at Shadowproof. He has covered the Julian Assange legal proceedings in the UK from the beginning, as well as other press-freedom and whistleblower cases. His interview with Mickey was recorded on March 25.
103: Warlust in Patriarchy. Empire Decline. HyperNationalism in Europe. Eurydice Eve w Chris Hedges
Speak with Eve Eurydice
Eve Eurydice speaks with Pulitzer-winning writer & war correspondent Chris Hedges about war as collective madness. Chris knows the intoxication of war, even addiction to war, first-hand. Chris gives us his take on what is happening in the world arena right now and why it is happening. We discuss the return of war in Europe caused by flawed past peace treaties. We discuss war as patriarchy’s rite of initiation into adulthood, Eros & Thanatos, the Life instinct & the Death instinct. War as seductive, enticing intoxication because it’s an expression of virility, of pride. War is emotionally driven, not rationally driven. The patriarchy conflates war with sex, since patriarchy began in the conflation of procreation with domination. In 6,000 years man’s instinct of domination has become inexorably confused with man’s instinct to mate. War is ultimately self destructive. Thucydides wrote that The tyranny that Athens imposed on others, it finally imposed on itself. The instinct to control is self destructive. Every action has a reaction; we are all connected as part of the mass brain. War disconnects the people in one country from another. Nationalism unleashes forces of indoctrination based on the dualism of ‘With us or against us,’ patriot or traitor. When politics surrenders to HyperNationalism in the name of the fatherland, millions die. Only the uber-rich profit from the slaughter.⚡️Chris Hedges is a journalist, minister, author, television host. He was a correspondent for The New York Times in Central America, the Middle East, Africa, the Balkans. He is the author of a dozen books, including America the Farewell Tour; War is the Force that Gives us Meaning; Empire of Illusion; Death of the Liberal Class; and Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt. Chris Hedges covered war up close in the Balkans, the Middle East, and Central America. CHRIS HEDGES on Deflating the Ruling Elite through Civil Disobedience [ENCORE] /271
For The Wild
This week we are rebroadcasting our interview with Chris Hedges, originally aired in June of 2019. All too often our conversations around the consolidation of wealth and power in America blindly fixate on the politics of the Right and Trump as the anti-hero archetype. We must deepen our analyses and rethink our movements beyond the two-party divide in order to truly understand and hold accountable the socio-political and economic forces that have brought us to such a crisis. This week, we speak with journalist and author Chris Hedges who guides us through the history and inner workings of neoliberalism, the rise of corporate capitalism, and our descent into fascism. Chris Hedges is a Truthdig columnist, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, a New York Times best-selling author, a professor in the college degree program offered to New Jersey state prisoners by Rutgers University, and an ordained Presbyterian minister. He has written 12 books and writes a weekly column for the website Truthdig and hosts a show, “On Contact,” on RT America. Hedges spent nearly two decades as a foreign correspondent in Central America, the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans. Music by Charlie Parr. #675 [Redacted Tonight] - The Death Of Russiagate, Chris Hedges On The Prison Industrial Complex & more
Moment of Clarity
The DNC’s case for Russiagate was centered on unverified, and now debunked, claims from an IT contractor called “Crowdstrike” that was paid to make us to think that the DNC’s emails were hacked by Russia. This narrative went the same way as the Steele Dossier and other laughable excuses for Hillary Clinton getting beaten by Donald Trump. Lee Camp takes a victory lap this week as the final pillar of the Russiagate conspiracy theory crumbles. Chris Hedges, the author and presenter of “On Contact” on RT, joins Lee Camp for a conversation around his latest book about teaching in American prisons. They also discuss corruption in the media and the U.S. System of Justice.
See the full interview at http://usefulidiots.substack.com“The charade of statesmanship played out by George W. Bush and his enabler, Condoleezza Rice, as they wander the Middle East is a fitting end to seven years of misrule, stripped of power and transformed from monsters into buffoons. One half expects to see him stand up at the next president's inauguration and screech ‘I’m melting! I’m melting!’ as he sinks into a puddle of slime.”This was penned by friend-of-show and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges back in 2008. And at the time, it seemed to reflect the opinion of George W. Bush among Leftists and Liberals. But now, he’s back. Liberals who used to condemn him now love him! He hangs out with Obama, he gives speeches denouncing Trump, he paints! Now that’s a thoughtful and cultured war criminal with whom we’d like to grab a Sauvignon blanc. In addition to blasting the grotesque rehabilitation of Dubya, Hedges shares his experience of 9/11 which he witnessed in New York City where he happened to be for a meeting with his then-employer The New York Times. He recalls those who jumped from the buildings who were edited out because “that mass suicide just didn't fit the narrative that both the media and the ruling elites were propelling.” When we asked him if 9/11 surprised him after years of serving and reporting in the Middle East, watching US bombs fall on cities, he responded,“That is how we communicate with the rest of the world. Huge explosions and death above a city skyline. That's how we have communicated for decades. And the hijackers learned to communicate back to us in the language we taught them. So when I saw the devastation, it was familiar. That was of course lost on most of the public who drank deep from that very dark elixir of nationalism.”Plus, the new Useful Idiots Wigged Moose Party announces a plan to ride in an armored pangolin and shoot Covid pellets at the Pharma companies refusing to share the vaccine. Maybe you have to see it to get it.It’s all this, and more (including a #JacoOfTheWeek), on this week’s episode of Useful Idiots.
