Episode 32: Swiss 8 Mini Series: Tristan Rose of Blind Tiger Yoga

This episode is not for the faint of heart.

Tristan and I served in the Australian Army together for many years, and we have a long history...some of which includes some of his darkest days, where he was at the point of no return.

In this episode, we round out the Swiss 8 Mini Series, as well as the protocols and principles that he has implemented along the way, to dig himself out of the deep dark hole that is anxiety, depression and PTSD.

Tristan is the founder of Blind Tiger Yoga, and has taught his no bullshit style of yin based yoga, mindfulness and meditation to over 10,000 veterans and first-responders, as an alternate therapy for anxiety, depression and PTSD, not just as an intervention, but as a preventative measure to manage the mind...myself included.

In fact, Tristan is the mastermind behind the Australian government providing a partial grant to educate and certify a dozen Australian Army Veterans in his style of yoga, to be taught to each individuals network. This initiative was provided to aid in addressing the mental health implications that war-fighting soldiers face when discharging from the Military, and trying to re-integrate back into a civilian population that, for the most part, does not uphold the same standards and professionalism that these soldiers are used to...which usually makes for a difficult transition.

He is a pioneer in his field, and coaches from not only a scientific standpoint, but through lived experience.

Swiss 8 is a proactive mental health model designed to provide the tools required to deliver high-quality content around their 8 pillars of health and wellness, to allow you to be "Better At Life."

These principles are delivered straight to your phone, via the Swiss 8 app, where you can build out your daily routine via the in-built calendar.

- Sleep
- Nutrition
- Time management
- Discipline
- Fitness
- Personal growth
- Mindfulness
- Minimalism

In this ten-part mini-series, I will be interviewing the founder of Swiss 8, Adrian Sutter, before dedicating an episode to each of the principles, and book-ending the series with an interview with Tristan Rose of Blind Tiger Yoga.

The Western world is in the middle of a mental health crisis, and our veterans have taken action. Swiss 8’s team of combat veterans have built a proactive mental health program that is delivered through a mobile app. The app offers users programs in 8 categories of health and lifestyle; all proven to reduce anxiety and depression. This holistic model forms your daily routine, aiding you to build structure, improve discipline and take ownership of your life. Once habits are formed the app will teach you new skills. Skills that can form identity, purpose, and encourage physical interaction to rebuild tribe and reduce isolation.

Tristan Rose is an Ex-Australian Army Soldier and the founder of Blind Tiger Yoga. Tristan’s military career spanned 10 years and multiple deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan, which led him to develop Blind Tiger Yoga, an organisation whose mission is to provide Yoga to Military, Veterans and Emergency First Responders in order to provide a method of maintaining their overall physical and mental health. www.blindtigeryoga.com

"The ultimate key is: No one's coming to save you. This is all accountability on the individual."

Today, Konner and Tristan talk about the unlikely transition from Soldier to Yoga teacher. They discuss some of the rightful praises, as well as genuine criticisms of the military and how that affects an individual reentering a civilian existence.

But mostly, the guys chat about the role and importance of mindfulness and meditation. Including some tips and advice on how and why this should be implemented into your daily routine.
