As an international student, I was lost and confused to all the new things that were expected of me. At that time, I did not find many resources to navigate college and it definitively took me a couple of semesters to get into a rhythm (I got a 2.4 GPA my first semester). I hope this episode helps all the students out there. Episodes like this are what get me the most excited because they are the ones I wish I had when I was in school. Justin shares a lot of great insights and has been helping a lot of students through his podcast and his company. Justin is the Founder of Declassified College, a media company helping students navigate their way through college. He is also the host of the iTunes Top 10 podcast Declassified College, where he unlocks cheat codes to thriving in college in bite-sized episodes. Justin has grown his podcast through his LinkedIn and TikTok content (@declassifiedcollege) where he gets a combined 7+M views each month. In today's episode, I sat down with Justin Nguyen, founder of GetchoGrindUp and host of the Declassified College Podcast which recently broke into the iTunes Top 100 charts on Apple Podcasts. Although Justin has made a career out of giving outstanding, zero bullshit advice to college students (I really encourage any young listeners to check out his podcast), that's not what we talked about today. We dove into Justin's past as a soccer player and how a major injury forced him to completely change course in his life, leading him to where he is today. #57 | College “Cheat Codes” and How Gen-Z Can Leverage LinkedIn with Justin Nguyen
All Things College and Career
WARNING: This is not your parent’s career advice. This is Gen Z-er, Justin Nguyen’s, careers-for-peers approach that has 18, 19 and 20-year old's binge-listening his podcast and contributing crowdsourced, real-time data for young job hunters. He leads from experience. After college-age, Justin sent out a fruitless pile of internship applications, he discovered, over a dish of ice cream, that the real path to Fortune 500 internships is networking. Then he landed three of them. While prestigious internships look amazing on a LinkedIn profile, sleepy data points alone do not produce job offers. Justin recommends something else, something much easier, to add to LinkedIn that really opens the doors of career opportunity.Justin is the founder of GetChoGrindUp, a movement to help students navigate their way through college.
