Open Mike Eagle, the Former Obfuscating Mike Eagle

Depresh Mode with John Moe

Issues of depression and anxiety have been present in Open Mike Eagle's raps for a long time. His most played track on Spotify is "Ziggy Starfish (Anxiety Raps)" and it's from 2015. Mike has always been more prone to self-effacement and worry than to the boasting and swagger you might find in other hip-hop artists. But after a year that saw him lose his tv show, his touring income, his marriage, and his home, Mike became more open than ever before and hit record on all of it. His album, Anime, Trauma and Divorce, touches on his experiences and the psychological narratives of his life.Listen to or buy your copy of Anime, Trauma, and Divorce here. We’ll be reading one creator-owned work a month through 2022, and each month I’ll release a new analysis with a new guest discussing the comic! Today we’re talking Secret and I’m joined by Open Mike Eagle! We’ll analyze the work in depth, so expect spoilers! In its brief 7 issues, Secret is a tale of modern corporate espionage that balloons into full Cold War secrets known only to a select few intelligence operatives. U-Haul Virgins with Open Mike Eagle & Joe Eskenazi (Ep141)

The Bitchuation Room

A bunch of chads get busted for attempting to riot at a Pride event, and the January 6th hearings show just how in danger Mike Pence was and how much Trump loved it. Plus, how the recall of Chesa Boudin has blotted out any honest discussion of criminal justice and police reform and the national media has simply run with a tough on crime line. Finally, can you spot the fake Juneteenth corporate-washing? Or are they all far too cringe? AND a solo Frannie Bonus Bish on drag queens and shows becoming the latest target for the right. RuPaul has some words. Exchange #37 | "Dark Comedy" by Open Mike Eagle

The K & D Exchange

In this episode, the hosts discuss the 2014 album "Dark Comedy" by alternative Hip Hop artist Open Mike Eagle. The conversation goes all over the place, with David continuously asking KaeDee why he suggested it, alongside topics regarding the underground's influence on the mainstream, the scope of human history/technology, the homogenisation of movies, (thanks to Marvel, even though we love 'em) and more! Enjoy!PS, sorry Open Mike Eagle, we feel like we didn't do a good job of reviewing your album to the level it should've been. If you'd like to be on the show and break it down for us, we'd absolutely love to do so 💪

Episode 188- Live From Treefort with guests Open Mike Eagle & Video Dave

Dad Bod Rap Pod

We recently had the pleasure of attending the Treefort Music Festival in Boise, Idaho, an annual event bringing an eclectic musical lineup as well as discussions, food, beer, and much more. We had a great time at the fest and one of the highlights was getting to have a conversation with Open Mike Eagle and Video Dave. Mike owns our podcast network Stony Island and we have interviewed him several times before, but he is truly one of the most practiced and engaging podcast guests on the planet. This was our first time talking to Video Dave and we all got along well immediately. Mike drops some knowledge about What Had Happened Was Season 3, his TV writing gig, and his feelings around performing in these uncertain times. Dave tells us about his excellent video projections and his last album, Week 1560. Our hosts also share some impressions about traveling, music festivals, and getting back together to pod in person. Beats this week are from our friend Controller 7's new album entitled exhale02: Moments. These shenanigans are brought to you by the world's greatest hip-hop storytelling flower-giving-focused podcast network, Stony Island Audio.
