The Open Gate Show program provides commentary on the Jamaican horse racing community. There is a show for each race day at Caymanas Park and a weekly analysis of the races from the previous week. Created and hosted by Colin Blair. He has over forty-five years of has an avid Horseman. As a breeder, owner, and trainer of racehorses as well as a consultant on buying young horses in Jamaica and Internationally, Colin is immersed in the day to day activities of Jamaican horseracing. “Horse Racing is the air that I breathe. Doing the Opened Gates Show gives me special peace...” are Colin’s sentiments. The Open Gate Show will inform and entertain anyone who has an interest in horse racing and its community. Robert Pearson, a coworker and good friend of Melanie and I, joins us this week! Robert is originally from Hawaii and gives us a little island history lesson and tells us what it was like growing up there. Robert also tells us about his favorite things and learns more about his zodiac sign. He talks all about how he discovered meditation and walking for stress relief and how he tries to be mindful in the midst of the chaos. Robert Pearson served as an artillery liaison pilot with the 4th Armored Division in WW II. He describes his reasons for enlisting prior to the start of the war, his training first in gliders and then in observation planes, and his service in France, Belgium and Germany. His experiences include action in the breakout from Normandy, the relief of Bastogne and the invasion of Germany. He also discusses an encounter with the French Resistance and his spotting of the Ohrdruf death camp in Germany. After the war, he became a physician and a psychiatrist, and helped to found the Holocaust museum in Houston, Texas.
