Jared Platt has no interest in softening the edges around the fact that at some point, everybody is bad at something even when they think they are good; but he’s also more than willing to unpack what it takes to be great. And here’s the thing, Jared is one of my favorite people in the whole wide world to converse with. This conversation is from WPPI 2020 last February before the world became whatever it is right now. We talk about the process of improvement among some other very important things. Take a moment and listen as Jared shares his wisdom and experience. I think you’ll be very glad you did.
In this episode of The Photography Lounge, your host Alastair Jolly sits down with Jared Platt and they discuss the nuances that make him describe himself as a documentary wedding photographer and not a wedding photojournalist.Jared grew up in a small, rural, town in Arizona and fondly reminisces about some of the unique daily occurrences at school. Initially dreaming of being a rock star then starting out as a Theatre major he quickly realised his path actually lay in the world of photography.Jared is recognised throughout the photography industry as one of the leading educators in process and workflow. His foundations in commercial photography and his experience of the transition to digital have led him to focus on how the power of all the amazing tools we have at our disposal today can only be unleashed with the right focus on process and workflow. As a father, the conversation turns to how to find a good work-life balance and how his use of good processes and workflows allow him to spend quality time with family rather than being tied to the editing suite. You can find out more about the tutorial that Jared made together with Profoto here:https://profoto.com/us/academy/courses/wedding/fundamentals-of-wedding-photographyLearn more about Jared:Website: https://jaredplatt.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jaredplatt/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jaredplattFind out all about the features SmugMug & Flickr have to offer at:https://www.smugmug.com/https://www.flickr.comFollow SmugMug:Facebook: http://facebook.com/SmugMugTwitter: http://twitter.com/SmugMugInstagram: http://instagram.com/smugmugBlog: https://www.smugmug.com/lensFollow Flickr:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/flickr/Twitter: https://twitter.com/FlickrInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/flickr/Blog: https://blog.flickr.net
Jared Platt is an international wedding, lifestyle and portrait photographer and photographic lecturer. Jared began his studies in photography in documentary and landscapes, but today you will find his images are a perfect blend of the three genres. You can catch him teaching photography, lighting and photo editing at the B&H Event Space, on CreativeLive, on Profoto’s YouTube light shaping series "What's the Difference”, at the Canon Live Learning Center and at international photo conferences around the globe. Jared has been teaching photography for 20 years and has been a working photographer for the last quarter century. In this episode, Jared explores how growing up in a sleepy one horse town shaped his creativity as a musician and a photographer. Instead of becoming the professional musical theater actor/rock star he thought he wanted to be, find out how Jared integrated performing into a career as both a photographer and an educator. We learn about the correlation between excelling at individual sports and as a solopreneur, and what Jared learned about himself from Pauly Shore. This is We Are Photographers with Jared Platt and this is his story.Connect with Jared Platt: jaredplatt.com | IG: @jaredplatt | Facebook | TwitterAt CreativeLive we believe there is a creator in all of us. You know how some people are just fun to talk to? And how, every once in a while, they’re also fun to listen to as well? I’ve officially released 99 of these interviews and a couple people have sat with me twice. Jared Platt is one such person. And I think he’s brilliant. I had no idea what we were going to discuss, but I knew I would enjoy it. I did. I hope you do, too.

Photographer: Is Your Time Spent "Good, Better, or Best?" Mr. Jared Platt Wants to Help
The PhotoTellers--Photography Podcast
"Hate" is a strong word; the word your mother told you not to use. So here I go: Jared Platt HATES to see Photographers needlessly squandering time. HATES it. Are you using your time for worst, good, better, or best? How can you work in the "best?" Jared has a word for you today! He's a wedding & lifestyle photographer himself, and he now spends a great deal of time teaching. [Hint: He's not a teacher-by-default. Listen in on his educational pedigree.] Some of the highlights of my conversation with Jared at Imaging USA 2016: The power of Photography as an artform. "We are professional liars." How is he teaching Photogs how to get their work done--faster? Why he doesn't believe that family portraits belong at a wedding. What is lifestyle photography? How is this not like traditional portrait photography? The opposite idea of "culling" photos--not rejecting the worst, but PICKING the best! Common pitfalls Photographers make. The systemic problem in our industry. "The desire for Photographers to do everything themselves is a really bad idea." -Jared Platt How can you learn more, and take advantage of the resources Jared Platt has to offer? Simple! CLICK HERE.
