While today they might just be at school or mastering streaks on Snapchat, one day the youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. And unlike the generations before them, 70% of these future professions and career paths don’t even exist yet.
But what’s more shocking is they’re more than prepared for such an occurrence and ready to face this task as it comes. While there is uncertainty in what this change will bring, they already know what change looks like and how to navigate it.
This week we’re joined by Claire Madden, author of Hello Gen Z and social researcher on generational engagement. Claire explores with David the technological cultural shift and what we as communicators can learn from these leaders of tomorrow though still young today.
Discussed in this episode:
When we talk about the future, it is with the knowledge that in all likelihood we will not see it. The future belongs to the next generation, which for us is Generation Z. Claire Madden is a social researcher, who has done extensive research on this new generation, compiling her research into her book “Hello Gen Z.”
On this episode, Carl welcomes Claire to discuss Gen Z’s unique relationship with technology, as they seem to be the group that most accepts it. They discuss what the members of Gen Z expect from their jobs, and how that differs from previous generations. Finally, they discuss what the future will look like when this generation finally inherits the world.
Want to glimpse into the future of generational dynamics? In this episode of the Beyond Billables podcast, we chatted with demographer Claire Madden to try to make some sense of what some of these generational shifts mean in a legal context. Claire is a great person to talk to because, beyond being a social researcher, she’s also a keynote presenter, TEDx speaker, media commentator and business communicator.
We covered a lot of ground in our conversation and worked through the key findings in Claire’s forthcoming book, Hello Gen Z. We dug into the characteristics of Gen Z, areas where they excel, areas where they may be lacking, the elements that have shaped them, and, ultimately, how they can change the legal profession and how it needs to change with them.
