Did you know Kentucky is in the elk business? And let me tell you business is booming! This week we chat with Gabe Jenkins, the Acting Director of Information and Education for the KY Dept. of Fish & Wildlife. It's a long title, but all you need to know is he's the elk guy in Kentucky. Gabe walks us through the whole process from finding the right area of the state for elk habitat to how they transported this 1000 pound animals in there and everything in between. He talks about the economic impact the program has had on this rural region of Kentucky and how the tag system works . Trevon Stoltzfus and Todd and Ashton Tackett recap the difficulties of this Kentucky elk hunt including the extremely hot weather, lack of bull elk vocalization and the struggle to find a big mature bull. As cliche as it sounds, and matching the previous 3 years, they once again pulled a “last day” miracle to wrap up their 4th Kentucky elk adventure.

Trevon Stoltzfus and good buddy and cameraman Jordan Ongstad sit down and get the listeners caught up on the events of the first few extremely hot days on his 4th Kentucky elk hunt in as many years with the Tackett family.

Still on the long drive back to Colorado, Trevon, Garrett Drach, and Tanner Vernon tell the final story of “Old Greg” and the redemption that came from Trev’s last minute trophy bull elk, the amazing teamwork that went into harvesting this great bull, and the high “suck factor” that they experienced in packing him out of the thick Autumn Olives and Briars that these Kentucky elk call home.

On the long drive back to Colorado, Trevon, Garrett Drach, and Tanner Vernon share the adventure of Kelly’s amazing KY bull. They discuss the locating and shooting of her huge bull along with the events that led up to Kelly finally laying her hands on this amazing trophy. They also go into the interesting history the crew had with this bull last year in KY when they were hunting with Ashton Tackett, Todd and Kelly’s youngest son.

With the sun finally shining in Kentucky and hunting conditions improving, Trevon, Todd Tackett, Garrett Drach, and Tanner Vernon catch the listeners up on what has happened in the past few days and the increased encounters. Trev tries desperately to get the shy Kelly Tackett, Todd’s wife, to say something in the microphone and as this hunt is Kelly’s first ever hunt, they discuss how this hunt came to be and what she has observed through the first week of the hunt.

With rain still pouring down, Trevon, Garrett Drach, and Tanner Vernon catch the listeners up on the conditions and encounters that have happened in the past few days. They discuss the challenges of filming in such wet conditions that differ vastly from the prior 2 years of hunting here in KY where the norm was hot temps and high humidity.

TWith torrential rains keeping the crew indoors in Kentucky, Trevon, Garrett Drach, Todd Tackett and Tanner Vernon talk through the back story of Trev’s last 2 years of hunting elk in Kentucky and how he met Todd Tackett and was introduced to the amazing adventure that is hunting Rocky Mountain elk in the foggy Hollows of eastern Kentucky.
