The Brain Health Revolution Podcast
In this episode, we speak with our dear friend Dr. Howard Jacobson, who is an author, Head Coach at Sick to Fit University; co-founder and Lead Instructor at the WellStart Health Coaching Academy; and host of the increasingly popular Plant Yourself Podcast. Howard believes that we all to some extent know how to live a healthy life, but knowing is not enough. Understanding the mechanism of our behavior is key to fundamental, long-term change. Please listen to this amazing conversation, which we believe is one of the most important conversations we've had on the subject. This week, a conversation with health and wellness guru, Systema For Life regular, and possessor of relentlessly regular bowel movements. Here, we ponder the subject of self-talk, which one way or the other has become louder and more frequent over the last, lonely year. We're often told by therapists, leadership gurus, and cocky celebrities that self-talk is all-important - the difference between success and failure. But how important is self-talk, really? What role does it play in our health, our decisions, and our self-development?Here, we discuss: Positive and negative self-talk The problem of excessive thinking and rumination Cognitive (versus behavioural or body-based) solutions Progressive / attenuated experience as the antidote to fear and self-doubt Follow Howie at plantyourself.com, and buy his book (co-authored with Josh Lajaunie) Sick to Fit, on Amazon.com.

Can You Change Other People? Howard Jacobson on Chef AJ Live
Plant Yourself - Embracing a Plant-based Lifestyle
Chef AJ and I chatted about life, my experience in lockdown in South Africa last spring (well, fall in South Africa), and what I'm up to. And we talked about my forthcoming book, You Can Change Other People. A viewer wrote about her siblings, who are all sick and overweight, and eating poorly, and how she struggles trying to convince them to adopt a healthy, plant-based diet. Why won't they listen to her, when she's healthy and slim and happy and full of energy? She's obviously got some things figured out? I shared some insights and techniques, as we brainstormed an approach that could potentially be more effective than constantly lecturing, prodding, nagging, and evangelizing. Enjoy!
