EFR 468: Why Your Mental Health Should Be Just As Much of a Priority as Your Physical Health with Ben Smith
Ever Forward Radio with Chase Chewning
Ben Smith, fellow Army veteran and coach at the legendary Deuce Gym in Los Angeles, encourages anyone going through a life-changing transition period—service members in particular—to actively seek guidance, whether through workshops, support groups, or connecting with a mentor who has been in their shoes and successfully crossed the bridge. In today’s conversation, Ben sheds some light on his mental health struggles before and after his time in the military, including an eating disorder that plagued his days in the Army due to an overwhelming feeling that he had no control over his own life. He also shares two moments in particular when he was gripped by thoughts of suicide and what allowed him to soldier on down a path of healing. Tune in to learn some of Ben's favorite practices for improving your own mental health today and how to live an others-centered life. In the latest episode of The Jamie Weinstein Show, the media columnist for The New York Times discusses how the Biden administration will be different in treating the media than the Trump administration, whether Trump's exit will be bad for business for the media, whether there is a double standard in how the media treat conservatives vs liberals and much more.

Always Expect the Unexpected | Ben Smith, Co-Owner of Reclamation Brewing Company
Proprietors of Pittsburgh Podcast
When Ben Smith and his father opened Reclamation Brewing Company in Butler, PA in 2015, it became the first brewery to operate in Butler County since the days of Prohibition. After years of disappointment with the mass-produced, watered-down beers that most bars and restaurants offered, the Smiths decided to once again “reclaim the good name of beer” and open their own establishment. Their mission is to show the public that craft beer doesn’t have to be pretentious or snobby. Instead, they set out to demonstrate that everyday beer can be delicious, enjoyable, and approachable for all who are willing to give it a try. Since they’ve opened their doors, they have elevated beer culture and created a community of fans in Western Pennsylvania and beyond. In 2018, the Smiths opened a sister business, the RB Cigar Bar & Speakeasy. In that same year, Ben Smith became the mayor of Butler. He was recruited to civic duty by a group of concerned local citizens who admired his personality, leadership style, and business acumen. And if all of that wasn’t enough, he is also involved in producing and hosting two podcasts. In this episode, Ben talks about the roots of his brewing business, what it was like to renovate a building over 100 years old, and why approachability is central to his brand. If you have any questions or if you’d like to chat, you can reach me at my contact info below. The purpose of this podcast is to share ideas, inspire action, and build a stronger small business community here in Pittsburgh.
