Bridget Crawford and Emily Gold Waldman are Professors of Law at Pace University School of Law and are at the forefront of efforts to repeal sales taxes on feminine hygiene products, dubbed the Tampon Tax, across the country. Their research not only points out policy reasons for repealing the Tampon Tax but also puts forth arguments as to why it is unconstitutional as well.

Crawford and Waldman observe that many states exempt "necessities" from sales tax, but do not exempt menstrual hygiene products, which puts a significant financial burden on women, especially low-income women. They argue that burden is unconstitutional, because a tax on menstrual hygiene products is a de facto tax on women. And they explain how opposition to "tampon taxes" relates to current movements to secure women's rights.
