Lead by compelling and dynamic vocalist Megan Burke and accompanied by guitarist John Eck, with his powerful riffs and melodies, and bassist Wes Powell, who solidly holds down the groove and rhythm, this trio brings a new edge to early 2000s alternative rock. Firmly rooted in the idea that our own personal realities are only a collection of the perspectives around us, Misty Eyed showcases these beliefs in the music and lyrics they write; showing that no two people have the same story and that each of those stories deserve to be displayed in their most authentic and genuine form. About She Will Rock You: The goal of She Will Rock You has always been to educate our listeners. Whether that is about a classic rock artist or a new and emerging artist. We want to help promote new rock artists, especially those who are women or minorities. Rock and roll is not dead, and we aim to do everything that we can to spread the love.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/she-will-rock-you/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/she-will-rock-you/support

Megan Burke, "When Time Warps: The Lived Experience of Gender, Race, and Sexual Violence" (U Minnesota Press, 2019)

New Books in Critical Theory

In When Time Warps: The Lived Experience of Gender, Race, and Sexual Violence (University of Minnesota Press, 2019), Megan Burke considers the relationship of sexual violence to lived time by reexamining and building upon the work of Simone de Beauvoir, and in conversation with Judith Butler, María Lugones, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and many others. Through developing a feminist phenomenology of time, Burke allows us to consider how racialized colonial sexual domination structures feminine subjectivity. By focusing our attention on temporality, Burke deepens our understanding of how the past haunts the present, giving rise to sexual domination, as well as how we can actualize latent possibilities to lay those ghosts to rest.
