This week we bring you another Director Spotlight episode. For John McTiernan the highs were very high (Die Hard, Predator, The Hunt for Red October) but my god were his lows some of the absolute worst (13th Warrior, Rollerball). Join us as we discuss the complete works of someone we thought was a legend, only to discover that maybe he’s human, just like the rest of us.

Enjoy!

Derich and Josh discuss the rocky career of John McTiernan, a real intellectual and an artist who just got shoehorned into making action pictures. To hear the guy speak, you would think he'd be a director of art films or dramas. Movies like Predator and Die Hard are successful largely because of him and his artful approach. It's a shame that his career petered out like it did - both due to declining box office performance, and serious legal matters. All this is discussed at length.

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Major "Dutch" Schaeffer, who, along with his crew of elite special ops commandos, is sent to the jungle of a hostile Latin American country on a covert hostage rescue mission.  However, he soon finds out there's more to the mission than he had originally been told by his old friend, Major George Dillon (Weathers), leaving them in a firefight with other military factions in a country they aren't supposed to be in.  Worse, they discover that some of the soldiers in the area have been killed in a most disturbing manner, skinned, disemboweled, and left for vultures to feast on.  And worst of all, Dutch's crew appear to be the next on the prey list. John McTiernan direct this classic action/adventure/sci-fi/horror/war hybrid.

We're looking forward to Shane Black's THE PREDATOR, so we decided to go back to the 1987 original for Episode 37. Our love of this film shines through with every minute of discussion, including a few terrible Schwarzenegger impressions.
