The Fake Podcast

The world keeps turning and our podcast keeps churning. Welcome to Episode 5 of this ultimately, very fake podcast. In this episode, we interview none-other than the myth, the legend that is Lisa Leone. For those that don't know, Lisa is a famed photographer, filmmaker and overall OG of hip-hop. Grew up in the Bronx during the birth of hip-hop culture, Lisa captured history with her iconic B&W photographs (to which you can see for yourself in her photo book, "Here I Am" published by Minor Matters - check it out here.). She's also a decorated filmmaker and cinematographer who literally won the Game of Life by actually working and learning alongside the God, Stanley Kubrick. In another words, we have no idea why she decided to be on our fake podcast.Lisa drops serious enlightened wisdom as he is part mystic, part psychic and all gypsy - where we explore relationships, desires for freedom, and FREE WRITE!Couple notes:1. We recorded this episode in IRL (social-distanced, of course) where we drank an entire bottle of Sombra Mezcal (highly recommended) between the three of us.2. This was our first time doing a proper intro ... mainly because while drinking Sombra Mezcal, I totally forgot to press record and missed out on the first 5 mins of this episode.3. That awesome bassline intro is from the song "Televised Minds" by the amazing Irish rock band, Fontaines D.C.4. Ben's dog, Clifford, makes a cameo appearance.Hope you enjoy this rather intense, deep and emotionally charged episode ... all the while, you are free writing like crazy!FREE WRITE OR DIE!

The Cipher

Lisa Leone has lived a life for the ages. She began photographing some of the most important figures in the early days of hip-hop culture (who were also her friends) as a teenager. Then she took some of the best, most revealing photos ever of musical icons like Snoop Dogg, Nas, The Fugees, Mary J. Blige, and tons more. Lisa moved from there into working on music videos, before her career took an unexpected left turn. She turned a short research photo assignment for a friend into four years working closely with film legend Stanley Kubrick on his final film, Eyes Wide Shut. Then she took that experience and co-directed the iconic documentary on sneakers and sneaker heads, Just for Kicks.A gorgeous book of Lisa’s hip-hop photos, Here I Am - Photographs By Lisa Leone, is available now. An exhibit of that name is running through January 11th at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. You can view a slideshow of some of her photos over at Complex.See http://theciphershow.com/episode/79/ for full show notes and comments.
