Psychopaths, Codependents, and Narcissists: Sandra Brown

The Love Fix

Sherry and Carla kick off this week talking about the difference between openly sharing your life and oversharing on the internet. They then take a Love Fix question on how to self-soothe during an argument and welcome Sandra Brown, M.A., field pioneer, author and former psychotherapist. Sandra talks about the rerelease of the award-winning and highly popular book, Women Who Love Psychopaths. She talks about what traits typically make up a psychopath, why some women tend to be drawn to them, and advice on treating trauma after healing from a relationship with one. What You’ll Hear In This Episode: You can be an open book, but it’s important to respect your partner’s privacy if they aren’t as open to sharing their life details. A Love Fix question on how to self-soothe during and after an argument with your partner. Sandra has worked her whole career of 30+ years with narcissists, anti-social, and psychopaths and the women and children who have loved them. What are the patterns she has seen time and time again? Her book Women Who Love Psychopaths is updated from the 2008 first edition and explores the real-life relationships and stories between survivors of trauma and what exactly makes a psychopath. What are personality trait elevations that are a risk factor in potential pathological relationships? What led Sandra to become interested in what she calls “Danger Zone personalities” or lower conscious individuals? Are psychopaths aware of what they are doing? With 1 out of 100 people being a psychopath, you probably know one. Hopefully, you haven’t yet dated one. How is psychopathy usually created? Is it nature or nurture? Is there a type of person or characteristics that tend to date psychopaths? Resources to learn more from Sandra about Women that Love Psychopaths, along with ways to work with Sherry and Carla on overcoming codependency, dating, healing from toxic relationships and gaining confidence. What type of treatment for women that have trauma for dealing with psychopaths? Tweetables: “I’m an open book, and I’m okay with that.” - Sherry “Psychopaths are sicker than we are smarter. If we aren't on top of who will be targeted, we are still at risk.” - Sandra “If there is one thing I want you to learn to trust, it’s the presence of cognitive dissonance.” - Sandra “It’s important that we as therapists differentiate. How you treat codependency, or how codependency is different in working with someone’s personality to raise awareness of trait elevations.”  - Sandra “What a psychopath can do to someone psychologically is way more than your average jerk.” - Sandra Connect with Us! Sandra Brown & BLIND TIGER on Wine Women & Writing

Wine Women & Writing

Join Sandra Brown in conversation with Pamela Fagan Hutchins on this episode of Wine Women & Writing as the two authors discuss Sandra's historical fiction release BLIND TIGER, 1920 as the mirror image of 2020, characters that hijack books, great female villains, and much more. About Sandra Brown: Sandra Brown is the author of more than sixty New York Times bestsellers, including STING (2016), FRICTION (2015), MEAN STREAK (2014), DEADLINE (2013), LOW PRESSURE (2012), LETHAL (2011), and the critically acclaimed RAINWATER (2010). Brown began her writing career in 1981 and since then has published over seventy novels, bringing the number of copies of her books in print worldwide to upwards of eighty million. Her work has been translated into thirty-three languages. Brown recently was given an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Texas Christian University. She was named Thriller Master for 2008, the top award given by the International Thriller Writer's Association. Other awards and commendations include the 2007 Texas Medal of Arts Award for Literature and the Romance Writers of America's Lifetime Achievement Award. About BLIND TIGER: With a “knack for romantic tension and page-turning suspense, this one is a winner.” The year 1920 comes in with a roar in this rousing and suspenseful New York Times bestselling novel by Sandra Brown. Prohibition is the new law of the land, but murder, mayhem, lust, and greed are already institutions in the Moonshine Capitol of Texas (Booklist, starred review). Thatcher Hutton, a war-weary soldier on the way back to his cowboy life, jumps from a moving freight train to avoid trouble . . . and lands in more than he bargained for. On the day he arrives in Foley, Texas, a local woman goes missing. Thatcher, the only stranger in town, is suspected of her abduction, and worse. Standing between him and exoneration are a corrupt mayor, a crooked sheriff, a notorious cathouse madam, a sly bootlegger, feuding moonshiners . . . and a young widow whose soft features conceal an iron will. What was supposed to be a fresh start for Laurel Plummer turns to tragedy. Left destitute but determined to dictate her own future, Laurel plunges into the lucrative regional industry, much to the dislike of the good ol’ boys, who have ruled supreme. Her success quickly makes her a target for cutthroat competitors, whose only code of law is reprisal. As violence erupts, Laurel and—now deputy—Thatcher find themselves on opposite sides of a moonshine war, where blood flows as freely as whiskey. MPP 147: Sandra Brown Lindstedt And Her New Book, Life of a Firefly

Mission Possible Podcast | Christopher Duffley

In this episode, I talk with Sandy Brown-Lindstedt, who has a new book, Life of a Firefly. It discusses about her childhood from about 5 to 12 years old, and tells about things from an African-American’s perspective on schooling and life-related things. What’s really intriguing about this book is that it also talks a lot about having faith in God, which would be the “firefly” that her grandma mentions in the book. You can get this book from Amazon. Episode 1 - Sandra Brown

Journeys in Education

Sandra Brown was brought up in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire in Scotland.  She was educated at Coatbridge High School, Hamilton College and the Open University, which awarded her an Honours degree in 1978 and a Masters in Education in 1996. She has worked as a primary school deputy headteacher and as a senior lecturer. Sandra founded the Moira Anderson Foundation based in Airdrie in 2000, which is dedicated to supporting children and adults affected by childhood sexual abuse.  More of this later I am sure. She has written a play called ‘One of our Ain’.  It recounts her childhood and the unexplained disappearance of Moira during a snowstorm in Coatbridge in 1957. The one-woman show, presented by Sandra herself, has been staged at the Soho Theatre, London, Oran Mor Theatre, Glasgow and during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Sandra also wrote a best-selling book, (which personally I think should be required reading for every teacher and social worker in Scotland) about the same subject.  Called ‘Where There Is Evil’ it ensures that Moira’s memory remains in the public consciousness and highlights the need for best practice around and wider awareness of child protection issues.  Proceeds from the book provided the money which allowed Sandra to set up the aforementioned Foundation in Moira’s name. In 2005, Sandra was voted Scotswoman of the Year by readers of the Glasgow Evening Times and in December 2006, she was awarded the OBE for services to child protection. She is a Wife, Mum and Grandmother and In Sandra’s own words, It's a good time to interview her with the charity just having received Investors in People’s Platinum Award which only 9% of Scottish businesses hold, and of that lot only 2% have agencies with less than 23 staff- they have 14 plus all their volunteers - and charities come in at 0.5%. A rare thing indeed!
