115: Fuel that part of yourself that is an adventurer with Jet Set Lisette Austin
The Creative Impostor
Episode 115. "It can be done. You can bring the travel adventure home.” ~Lisette Austin Traveling is a state of mind - especially during a pandemic. And free access is awarded to those who think outside the box. Lisette Austin takes that axiom and spins it into COVID comfort for those suffering from acute wanderlust. Before she gifts us with her stay-put suggestions and addictive optimism, however… Allow me to cry into my teacup for a moment. Chances are if you’re an avid traveler (or were an avid traveler) before COVID, you’re doing some crying of your own -- perhaps into a different beverage but tears all the same. There’s a frivolous kind of torture that XXX my soul every time I hear a jet engine roar overhead. Planes crisscross the sky all day long - but no one’s going anywhere. Especially not me. Or you. Unless you’re lucky enough to live beyond the restrictions imposed on US passport holders. So what’s a globetrotter to do when the world’s in timeout? Jet Set Lisette as she’s known to her podcast audience and travel-hack students has some ideas, and they all begin with this question: what is the thing inside us that makes travel feel so important? The answer, she says, strips away all the admittedly fun distractions that add flavor to our trips and reconnects us to our heart-centered motivation. Is there a salve that recreates the adventure and connectedness of travel? “Travel can feel like this amazing, quick vehicle for those kinds of experiences,” says Lisette. By identifying core motivations and using those as prompts, pouty armchair travelers (with teacups in hand) will land on resourceful ways to bring the feeling home and pass the time until the world opens up again. 073: Traveling New Podcasting Routes with Lisette Austin, The Globetrotter Lounge
Episode 073. “Don't give up, get creative. I'm staying sane. And if I can -- total shiny object syndrome -- then you can too. And yeah, don't be afraid to try new things, new podcasts." ~Lisette Austin So, what does a change of scenery look like to an award-winning travel-hacking podcaster? In a time of social upheaval? During a global pandemic? For Lisette Austin, aka Jet Set Lisette, that means staying the course. And, trying something new. Maybe…if/when she lands on the perfect encore to The Globetrotter Lounge, her podcast featuring “inspiring women who have found creative ways to travel more.” COVID has forced many creatives to reevaluate more than just their revenue streams. Inequalities highlighted by the social justice movement have prompted possible content shifts. And while the mileages may vary between individual podcasters, the results are the same: evolution at warp-speed. Lisette’s taking the trip in stride. On staying the course. As a Black woman behind the mic in a field dominated by white (mostly male) faces, Lisette’s show has led the charge with a diverse roster of guests since the beginning. On trying something new. Grounded travel podcasters are an antsy bunch. It’s no surprise, then, that months spent in one place have Lisette contemplating different show ideas, a new view in audio form. What is surprising is that she fleshed out some of her options in real-time on Podcast Envy!
