John Grant '...from Margaret Mead to Spiral Tribe to Greener Marketing'
The New Abnormal
In this episode I talk with John Grant, who spent his early career at JWT and BMP-DDB, before becoming co-founder and Head of Strategy for the revolutionary St Luke's . (As you'll hear, it narrowly missed being named after...well listen and find out.) John has since become a highly sought-after consultant, and somehow managed to write several excellent books along the way, inc 'The New Marketing Manifesto', 'The Green Marketing Manifesto', Co-opportunity', 'Made With', and 'Better'. He has worked with an array of leading global brands, along with various departments of the UK and Swedish Governments. He's also written a sequel to the #GreenMarketingManifesto titled #GreenerMarketing. So we talk about that, #TheGreatReset...and Spiral Tribe. As you do.
John Grant, Ben Wheatley’s In The Earth, albums challenge
Cult UK director Ben Wheatley returns to his folk-horror roots with the post-pandemic shocker In The Earth. Will we be able to see the horror for the trees? John Grant’s new album Boy From Michigan is searingly powerful on its creator’s chequered life, but is it, you know, fun too? And guests James Medd (ex-The Word) and Kate Hodges of The Hare And Hoofe challenge Andrew and Siân with albums to broaden their horizons. What will we like and what will we hate…? www.patreon.com/BigmouthPodcast Produced and presented by Siân Pattenden and Andrew Harrison. Audio production by Robin Leeburn. Our guest this week on the show is singer/songwriter John Grant. You might know him from his work with Midlake, the Czars, Sinéad O'Connor or Hercules and Love Affair. His new album is called Boy From Michigan. It's produced by Cate Le Bon and fascinating, Blade Runner synths pulsing underneath incredible melodies and vocal performances. Grant joined Jason P. Woodbury for a freewheeling and candid talk, this week on Aquarium Drunkard Transmissions.
Dan and Paul kick off the episode with some nice depressing discussion about the Toronto Maple Leafs before diving in to NCAA updates and PLL news. After that, they have a fantastic interview with one of the GOATS of lacrosse- John Grant Jr. Had to breeze through his list of accolades otherwise the first 45 minutes would have been just listing his accomplishments. As always, this episode is brought to you by our good friends at Cottage Springs. Check them out as the drink of the summer
