Design and food go hand in glove, the similarities are too numerous to mention all but consider texture, color and the connections we make with food, as we do with design that remind us of moments in time and places that make us happy. I had the opportunity to catch up with Steve Samson, a cornerstone of the Southern California culinary community. Samson is the chef and owner of not one but two Los Angeles restaurants on note, Sotto and Rossoblu. Steve has mastered the art of Italian cuisine and there is a very good reason for that, he has always had one foot firmly planted in Southern California and the other in Northern Italy, Bologna to be exact. You will hear Steve tell the story, and he can explain it far better than I can. But visiting his Bolognese family each year as he grew up allowed him to develop a feel for the Bolognese style of cooking, he was immersed in it and that is why he has focused his culinary career on Italian cooking. Samson has been recognized by Jonathan Gold, the LA Times, LA Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, Eater LA the Robb Report and others for his accomplishments as culinary star. As you will hear, Steve doesn’t really pay attention to that because he just wants to cook, for you. Thank you for listening. If you like what you hear, and I hope you do. Please go to Apple Podcasts and leave us a note and a 5 star rating. It helps new listeners find the podcast. Try It, You'll Like It

Chef Steve Samson hosts Winston and David at his restaurant Rossoblu in downtown LA this week to discuss the green bell pepper, the unripened, bitter version of it’s more brightly flavored primary color brethren. From the dining room, the three of them discuss Steve’s background, his Bologna inspired menu and how Rossoblu highlights his LA roots. For the tasting, a raw pepper and smoked one, green pepper jerky and a green pepper hummus are all served up.

The Impact of Higher Purpose - Steve Samson

Don't Retire, Refire Podcast

Starting his work life as a graduate in engineering out of university, Steve has had several career changes.  He makes an interesting distinction between a business that has been “corporatized” with its command and control leadership style,  where shareholder return on equity is the dominant focus. And a business that has been “professionalised with a soul” with its collaborative inclusive leadership style, where money making is in support of a higher purpose that does good in the world,  which more fully engages all stakeholders - staff, customers and shareholders. Steve quotes many examples of the benefits of the latter approach, including WholeFoods from the USA, which substantiates the validity of such an approach. He then goes onto talk about his attraction to both Family Business Australia www.fambiz.org.au  and recently Conscious Capitalism ww.consciouscapitalism.org.au. Lastly he talks about saying Yes to opportunities even if you don't have all the skills just yet.  Steve con be contacted at sdsamson54@gmail.com
