Mary Ann Reilly and Patrick O'Dell: Double Cousins Reconnecting in the Canadian Rockies
Aging Well: Finding Beauty in the Gray
Mary Ann and Patrick grew up with mothers who were sisters and fathers who were brothers. Mary Ann's family lived in upstate New York save for a 5 year stint in Texas and Patrick's family began in Nashville, Tennessee before migrating north to Finley, Ohio. The two families spent every Easter and two weeks in the summer together. Loving chaos would be the most apt phrase for these gatherings. Moving into their adult years, after Patrick returned home from serving in a M*A*S*H in Korea during the Vietnam War, he settled on the West Coast while Mary Ann remained in the Northeast. Respective focus on family and careers curved their paths in different directions until they arrived at the point of not having seen one another for 27 years. It was at this point that Mary Ann suggested to Patrick that they take a trip together to reconnect. Patrick enthusiastically agreed and a short time later they were greeting each other with loving embraces in the Calgary Airport before beginning a joyful reunion via a Road Scholar trip to the Canadian Rockies. Hear more about their trip and their many joyful reminiscences along the way on this week's show.Have comments or questions for us? Interested in sharing your story on Aging Well?
