Since we are hitting a huge milestone with episode number 200, we wanted to make sure that we matched that benchmark with a guest of equal stature. Naturally, we thought that there could be no one better suited for the task, than the one and only King of the Cocktail, Dale DeGroff, the acclaimed bartender and author. Due to the fact that this was our first time having this legendary figure onto the show, we decided to do a special two part episode with him that clocks in at over an hour, because we wanted to make sure that this episode was just as special for you, as it was for us.    ==============================   Join us every Monday as acclaimed bartender, Erick Castro, interviews some of the bar industry's top talents from around the world, including bartenders, distillers & authors. For the next month, we’re bringing back some of our greatest hits as part of our ‘best-of’ podcast series. You’ll be hearing four of our most popular conversations with cocktail royalty. The first of those is this chat with ‘King Cocktail’, Dale DeGroff.

Dale is a bartender, author and “one of the world’s foremost cocktail experts” according to in the New York Times. We were lucky enough to get him on the other end of the phone when he was in Australia in late 2018, to chat about the cocktail industry he’s a part of today versus the one in which he began his career in the 1970s, plus plenty of stories in between.

What does he credit with driving the resurgence of classic cocktails and their twisted varietals? Which drink does he regard as the true test of a bartender? TCN 14 - Talking Cocktails - Dale DeGroff & Adam Seger

TCN14 is from day six of our trip, featuring Dale Degroff and Adam Seger. We’d been adapting to the pace of New York City, which had us hustling through public transportation and urban navigation. We arrived to the IPic theater, and followed the signs up the escalators to The Tuck Room. Adam pulled a book, pivoting it from its bottom corner, and the entire bookshelf revealed itself to be a door, opening to an expansive, magical “green room.”

If you’ve had a cocktail, you have benefited from the influence of Dale DeGroff. He goes by the well-deserved moniker of King Cocktail, and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that his work and his writings have directly or indirectly influenced every working bartender out there today. Adam Seger is a remarkable barman, connector and educator with a knack for bringing elegant and sophisticated presentations forward in an adventurous and comfortable way. It was a pleasure to talk to them both about cocktails, over cocktails.
